I see your point there, drmiler, on creationism/evolution, but really, that's a different argument. The Quran would be taught in a class about cultures. Creationism would be taught in a class about science. There's a fundamental difference there. Science class is supposed to teach you facts, whereas a class on world cultures would just teach about other people and how they live/think/believe, etc. Evolution is widely accepted as the closest we're getti

Very amusing, drmiler. As a matter of FACT, I *have* read that post before. Know where the person who posted that got it? An e-mail forward. So TERRIBLY sorry. And what's with the personal attacks? When have I attacked YOU before? I have never attacked you--- only your ARGUMENTS, with the exception of when I accused you of only reading the first line of my post (which, you must admit, was the only one you quoted/referenced to in your argument). Guess a
There's a fine line, drmiler, between being considerate and coddling. I do not believe that a student can learn anything if everyone is constantly covering the kid's eyes from differing viewpoints! Why in the world is he/she going to college if he/she doesn't want to LEARN? To experience new things? I fail to see how making kids read the Quran is being at all inconsiderate. I think it's inconsiderate to think these kids can't think for themselves! That
And I suppose you check out *every little detail* of something before you post it? Alot of people would call that being anal! Actually, most people *DO* do that. And considering you got that little piece from an E-MAIL FORWARD, I would say you're just being ridiculous. I've seen that e-mail before, don'
And that my dear would more than likely end up with you in court being sued. I myself would consider that most inconsiderate. As would more than likely the jury. Did you even READ my argument, drmiler? You seem to have only read the first line, and then made a snap judgment. I am not going to repeat mys
drmiler--- Yes, I *would* (if I were a professor) force a student whose family member was killed in Iraq to read the Quran, if he/she were in my class. Why wouldn't I? Not all Muslims are terrorists/insurgents, and I believe that any student could benefit by exploring another culture. Why should he/she be exempt from required reading? If I, as a professor, think that my students' minds could be expanded and their understanding of the world be increased
You were fine until that statement. The Government, thanks to the ACLU and others, has interfered in religion. It prevents any free exercise there of during school hours, on government (tax payer funded) properties, and in any number of other ways. Your statement would be fine, but the government does interfere, and that
messy-- of course there's nothing wrong with student-organized prayers. As long as it isn't during normal school hours (when kids should be learning), or led by teachers, then I don't really care. If a bible study group wants to get together during lunch-- great! If a group of football players wants to pray together before a game- fantastic! But I don't think anyone in a position of "power" (like a teacher, coach, principal, etc.) should be forcing kid
I don't see any problem with the U.S. helping out these countries, and I'm a die-hard fiscal conservative. You don't seem to realize that well over 75,000 people have died, and some experts are expecting that number to practically double, what with rampant starvation and disease. Most of the dead are innocent children, who weren't strong/fast enough to get to safety. That $35 mil. is like a single raindrop in the OCEAN when it comes to how much relief
I'm sorry, I thought college was supposed to be about expanding your mind and all that great stuff. Refusing to read an assignment just because it doesn't jive with your beliefs if just being closed-minded. Nobody's forcing you to ACCEPT what you read-- just to read it. You can form your own opinions (and probably argue them in class), but only AFTER you've actually READ the material. Otherwise, you're just arguing against something you've never even e
You seem to be missing the point. Separation of church and state does NOT mean that the state is banning religion. It means simply that-- that they are separate. The government does not endorse, nor does it interfere with, religion. If you want your kids to pray, sing "Silent Night", scream from the hilltops that we are one nation under God, or anything like that, then WONDERFUL! You go right on ahead. But we're not going to have the GOVERNMENT for
I can't believe he honestly thinks that everyone in the red states only listens to Rush Limbaugh! Does he not think we have NEWSPAPERS? Which, believe it or not, have the exact same national/international stories and articles as those in New York City? Or are we too dumb to know how to read!? Maybe that's it. We need someone to break it all down for us. We just cannot think on our own. I mean, heaven forbid we could actually look at the EXACT SAME FACT
Why should we be caring what all the entertainers in Hollywood think? A lot of them have never even held real jobs! They don't even know what it's like to be an AVERAGE American, so they're obviously not just a vocal representation of the "average guy". And they're not political commentators-- they don't have degrees in political science; I bet most of them slept through high school government class! They probably have no clue how the system really wor
Wait a minute guys, you're only focusing on what big businesses or stuff like that could pay. Think about small businesses who are struggling to even make it with all these big chains taking over. You think they can afford to pay huge wages to workers whose only jobs are to sweep the floor and shelve items? No way! If the minimum wage were raised enough to be a "living wage", small businesses as we know them would cease to exist. They just couldn't af
Woah, this is a huge issue here... but I, for one, never watch CBS. Could someone please fill me in on what their episode was about, exactly? I've read what everyone's said, and it sounds pretty damning for CBS, but I'm not sure I entirely understand what they claimed. Could someone please fill me on on what happened? Thanks.
Popular vote would give each person a fair and eqaul vote. And the electoral college doesn't make candidates do things for the small states. Who's visited alaska? Who cars about alaska's three votes? Actually, I thought that one of the points of the electoral college system was to ENCOURAGE candid
You have very valid points, and I agree that no matter what other people tell you, you should ultimately vote how you believe. That IS why we have anonymous ballots. And, Messy, you make a good point with your (very strange) hypothetical about Gore/Hitler. I doubt any one president could screw up everything so badly that voting for a third party candidate instead of the the opposing major party candidate would cause any serious damage.
That's pretty nice, Crusaders... I think I'll try that next time. Thanks
Thanks, ShoZan, but I doubt Mr. Depp is going to be wandering around these forums anytime soon to read your kind little message to him. But it's a nice thought, nonetheless
Woah, sorry if that came off as a little angry... I'm not trying to start a fight (honestly), I'm just sick of people who go along with whichever way the wind is blowing when making decisions. I'm not saying you're like that; I'm just saying I've been seeing a lot of it, and you sort of came off that way.
Instead of looking at what everyone ELSE is saying and making your decision on who to support based on what you find, why not try looking at the FACTS from reputable news sources instead of a bunch of random people who could have their own agendas? I'm not saying "vote Bush" or "vote Kerry," I'm saying, look at the FACTS, not random opinions, and make your decision accordingly based on your own conscience added to what you've researched.
I don't know, it seems to me plenty of people have their own reasons to be mad at Bush... like the fact people STILL think he "stole" the election, and some think that he cares more about his oil buddies than America... Did it ever occur to you that the masses are not always right? Just because a lot of people don't like Bush doesn't mean there's necessarily something secretly evil about him...
Johnny Depp hates America?? Noooo... I love Johnny Depp.... He is a fantastic actor.... I was thinking of naming my CAR after him! (I ended up naming him Ringo... Cause my car's a Beetle... GET IT?!? )
While that is a great thought, ShoZan, I'm afraid it couldn't really be executed in real life- I mean, America's influence is EVERYWHERE... She'd have to live on Mars to get away (hey, they found water there, it could happen! Although she'd need US technology in order to breathe... nevermind, then!)
I'm afraid, ShoZan, that since she's only in high school and still living with her parents, her moving to, say, Germany isn't really a viable option for her right now... I'm sure she'll probably leave after using our government's student financial aid programs to help put her through college. Isn't that nice?
