I'm not missing any point, the effort to sidestep the issue by saying this is not about singling out the Muslim population is decimated by the public statements provided by French officials, one of those statements is above. It is also highly suggested by the timing and demographic changes in France and the world events of late that this legislation would not come about by itself in only pertaining to crosse

Thanks Paul, for the clarification on the law / amendment bit, I got carried away and failed to make the correct distinction. The history of the scarves in schools dates back to 1989 when two muslim girls were expelled from school for wearing their scarves. Since th

I feel like this "revelation" is too little too late, look how Bush defenders are already decrying the accusations. "That stuff didn't happen! Bush is a righteous guy, even if this stuff did happen, he's not doing it now, this is just smear, it has no effect on the veracity of Bush's words!" etc. etc. . Whatever...

This is the reason Bush is able to so easily pepper Kerry in deriding his healthcare plan. He was quoted as saying that Kerry could not pass this "complex blueprint" without raising taxes, now we know why. I've got an idea Americans, let's vote out the suckers in congress and the guy leading them on in the exec. branch out of office if for no other reason then to tell government we're not happy. With American dollars supporting Iraq ($132,5

The far left may say single mom families are just fine and the far right may argue that no one who is working minimum wage deserves a "raise" anyway, but some know that between these extremes is a struggling family unit being torn in two and falling to the ground with no socio-cultural safety net.

Article 2 of the French Constitution reads: (1) France is an indivisible, secular, democratic, and social Republic. It ensures the equality of all citizens before the law, without distinction as to origin, race, or religion. It respects all beliefs. (this amendment was added in 1946, many years after the constitution was created in the 1800's) This amendment was to insure the French never had to suffer through a corrupt church reigning ove

Everytime I try to speak with friends about Venezualen President Chavez, they walk away nodding their heads grumbling something about "conspiracy theory". Congratulations on blogging this here...

Now what is wrong with the French stopping over religious symbolism in state schools. Small crosses can still be worn, as can bandanas for muslims (approved by the muslim community as acceptable by the way). Full religious attrire is perfectly acceptable in all other locations or in private schools. France is a democracy and this is the decision they have made. It has already been vetted by the European courts of human rights to ensure that it is no

You are correct to a point. In America what you said would be 100% true. "But" it ain't America, it's France. True, I failed to make that distinction in post #14 between the U.S. local schoolboards and whatever system they have set up in France. The fact that both claim to be part of the "free world" however, is important, when, in many ways neither truly are, the French are just acting out in a different yet equally poor manner.

The French can give whatever reason under the sun they want for this action, but religion is a part of culture (any culture) and a soveriegn choice of the individual. We aren't cogs in a machine, and some of us believe in souls, the government has no right to infringe upon this personal matter. As for the uniform matter, uniforms in schools often are found only in private schools such as Catholic or "military schools". There is a choice st
