When using the windows 7 style, it appears that the programs list is using c:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs and putting an entry in the list for each sub-directory.  However, if there are no executable programs in those sub-directories, the menu entry should not exist.  I have a few empty sub-directories in the Start Menu/Programs directory and those don't appear in the normal Windows Start menu list.

Is this the standard behavior?  If so, is there an option to not show those entries?

This is how Window 7 showed the list as it parsed the subfolders only when opened. If you delete the extra empty folders they will go away or you can enable the option to use the newer all programs list which should be the same as Windows 11.

Windows 11 merges everything together and will only ever show one level of folders maximum.

This is normal and not a bug.

The taskbar icon size control controls the size of Start11 provided items only.

I have a problem with Start11 (v2.53): when I start Assetto Corsa Evo (v0.3.2), Start11 forces the Evo to exit full screen. This way, the taskbar is always visible, and the game's video resolution drops from 2560x1080 to 2560x1048. If I go to the game options and restore the full screen, it continues working until some app alternance (alt+tab in Windows 11, 24H2, build 26100.6584), when the Start11 taskbar jumps to the front again and changes the game resolution.

I'm using Start11 to get the vertical taskbar and, in general, it is working great!

I do have a question: The task bar in Windows 10 would put multiple system tray icons next to each other if the taskbar was wide enough. The wider the taskbar was, the more icons it would put side-by-side. The Start11 task bar is not doing that and so the icons are eating up more space in the task bar and leaving less space for the pinned and active applications.

Is there any work being done yet to implement multiple system tray icon stacking?

I have attached an image of my Start11 taskbar and my office PC Windows 10 taskbar showing the difference in the system tray portion of the task bar.

TrafficMonitor.exe, shown in the Windows 10 system tray, does not display at all in the Start11 system tray. It is a very handy tool and I hope will work in a future release of Start11.  Information TrafficMonitor.exe can be found at:

Unfortunately Trafficmonitor does not work properly in Windows 11 even without Start11 as it has no ability to move taskbar buttons away from it so they end up under it if you have many apps running, or centre things.

With Start11 we added support for it with enhanced taskbar enabled where it will show correctly with a horizontal taskbar and taskbar buttons are aware to avoid the area it is positioned, but this isn't implemented for vertical taskbars at this time.  We can investigate this for future updates though.

On Windows 11 24H2, I use the fullscreen Windows 10 menu of Start11. The search sometimes breaks intermittently. It does work, sometimes does not, then it suddenly works again. Pressing Windows Key, then typing for search is how I use it, since there is no search field, which feels UX wise wrong.

Also the tooltips of the icons in the lower left inside that menu are not localized to German.
