Does the new version allow for a dock that displays the system tray icons?  I don't see that option.

On my two-monitor system (W11 23H2 22631.3737) I have noticed the following:

1. the drag and drop feature to add a shortcut doesn't work on my second display but it works on the main display

2. I have programmed some very simple small programs via visual studio that I use on a daily basis. I haven't found a way to add their shortcuts to OD. I'm not sure but it seems it treats them like MS Store apps.
The same happens with Asus 'Armoury Crate' which I have installed from Asus but apparently it is perceived as an MS Store app.
Note that having those sitting on a dock would be the main reason to use OD so it would help immensely if there was a way to make them work.

3. I see there is a shortcut called 'Configure Objectdock' on 'Tabbed Dock'. I can't seem to find a way to add the same shortcut on 'Quicklaunch Dock'. What am I missing?

4. I feel a very slight lag when OD is running. The config window is exceptionally laggy as well. I'm using a i9 12900k with a 4070TIS so I don't think it's the hardware. Could it have to do anything with Groupy 2? (I installed both today).

Thanks

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues.

1. I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Drag and drop shortcut from desktop to Dock work. How do you drag the shortcut to the dock? From desktop itself or from somewhere else?

2. Do you have its shortcut put on your desktop? And drag that to the dock?

3. I believe that is just link to "ObjectDock.exe" can be found in here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock

4. I don't see the issue on my Windows system, also have Groupy 2 running. Need more information, what I see snappy might be laggy for someone else.

Thank you.

Hello,

1 & 2. I'm trying to get a shortcut straight from the Start Menu. It *does* work for non-MSStore apps when on my Main Display but not on my Secondary Display. Could you please try again, this time from the Start Menu?
(Note that I tried using a shortcut from the desktop and it still doesn't work.)

3. I can see that the goal to bring up the Settings window is achieved, however the icon on the 'Tabbed Dock' has different edit-icon settings in a drop-down menu which include commands such as 'Configure this dock', 'Unload ObjectDock', etc. I was mainly talking about those commands so apologies if I wasn't clear earlier.
It seems that 'Tabbed Dock' has a dedicated list of commands for OD's settings whereas 'Quicklaunch Dock' does not.

4. You might be correct that this is just me imagining things. Unless I have some solid proof let's ignore (4).

Thanks again

I see.
Well, it is strange that you can't add a shortcut straight from the Start Menu because, as I mentioned, I can. Moreover, it says so in the guide where it describes how to add a shortcut: "The easiest way to add a shortcut to your dock is to drag one from your START MENU..."
Are you saying that does not work for you?

Also, regarding (3),
is there a way to have the same options for 'Quicklaunch' like the options I mentioned that appear on the 'Tabbed Dock'?

Thanks

Thanks.  I believe MS is at fault because the function is essentially lost on Nexus as well.

hi, why objectdock have no proper permissions to open microsoft apps like spotify or affinity?

 What I don't like
There are some issues
Screenshot of a Windows 11 desktop with two Vivaldi windows open and no indication in ObjectDesktop on how to switch between them

One of the bigger problems you may have with ObjectDock is that the QuickLaunch dock doesn't work quite as well when it comes to showing you multiple instances of the same app. You'll always see a single icon for each app, so if you have multiple windows of that app, the only way to switch between them is to repeatedly click the icon as it switches between each window. There's no way to tell how many windows are open for a specific app, either.

I've also noticed a strange bug where the Settings app will randomly appear on my QuickLaunch dock despite not being open. It's not a big deal, but certainly strange.
I can't see notification indicators
Screenshot of a Windows 11 desktop with notifications open and ObjectDock displaying a QuickLaunch dock

All of my complaints with ObjectDock could be considered nitpicks, but they're worth mentioning all the same. Broadly speaking, the main complaint is that while the app works on Windows 10 and 11, it feels like it isn't made for these operating systems. It sort of feels like it's a little stuck in the past.

One big way this happens is that hiding the taskbar means I have no visible way to see if I have receive notifications on my PC. Of course, I can always use a keyboard shortcut to see it, but it would be nice to have a visual indication of when I have notifications on the Quick Launch dock, for example. After all, ObjectDock does include clock and calendar icons you can use for those purposes, so I think a similar button that shows whether I have notifications or not would be really useful. On the topic of the clock icons, it would also be nice to have a digital clock option, I'm not a big fan of analog clocks.
The design doesn't feel modern
Screenshot of customization options in Objectdock

While I was able to get ObjectDock to look pretty nice by my standards, the overall design is another area that makes this app feel like it was just ported to Windows 11, rather than updated for it. All the icons used still feel like they come from the Windows 7 era, including the Start menu icon, which feels really out of place these days.

The same goes for all the customization styles available, which are all very old feeling. Even the option I went with for my QuickLaunch dock feels like it came from Windows 7, even if it still looks nice. I get that designing a ton of new styles probably wouldn't be feasible, but it would have been nice to see at least some default styles that fit in better on Windows 11. For example, the tabbed docks could have a look more similar to the tabs used in Start11, which is also made by Stardock. A similar design language for the QuickLaunch dock would be nice, too.

Start11 v2 review: Making the Windows 11 Start menu actually useful

With tons of configuration options for appearance and organization, Start11 makes the Start menu and taskbar so much richer

ObjectDock is backed by a community on mods as well, but going to the website, all the customizations available right now feel just as dated, because the platform hasn't really been updated for the new ObjectDock.

Overall, this just feels like a very soft re-launch of the app, and maybe Stardock is still gauging interest to see if it's worth doing more work to modernize ObjectDock. I hope that's the case, as I'd love to see the app feel more like a part of Windows 11.
And more please: Show system tray icons.

The app had to be redone for W11. W11 has its limitations on the app as well. As for the settings app, I've noticed this as well.

As for the multiple instances of the same app, I hope the 'peek' view can be adapted for OD3.

When hovering over the dock initially, it lags until the dock becomes engaged. What is causing this? I have come from WinStep Nexus Dock which didn't have this issue, so it is quite disappointing. I'm on powerful hardware and using the recommended performance settings.

Thanks

I used ObjectDock for a lot of years and I bought and installed v3 also... big mistake :(. It destroyed my great Stacks object - over and out, moving to another app.

I am having issues with some custom icons not staying applied. At first I thought it was due to resolution as some are 512px and the ones that DO stick are 256. However, even with resizing them, they keep reverting to their defaults that are used when first added to the dock every time OD is reloaded either from reboot or simply closing and reopening it. This system is a clean install as of yesterday 9/26/2025. I'm only just resetting everything up. I have recorded a video of the issue and will also attach the all icon files used in the example in case maybe there's a weird issue with the files I'm not seeing. I also thought it was because my icons folder was on a NAS, but copying to my local pc did not help either. I'm stumped. Also, you may notice I have issues briefly with getting the Doom icon to be right clickable, that's not a real issue. That was caused by the screen recording toolbar being in the way. Other than the icon thing, so far I haven't had any other problems so far.

Object Dock is version 3.01.

My PC is on:

Edition    Windows 11 Home
Version    24H2
Installed on    ‎9/‎27/‎2025
OS build    26100.6584
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.234.0

Video: https://youtu.be/X_oTqyPGVyc

Icons: Icons.zip (This link is from my personal onedrive, only contains PNG images)

Edit to add: I wonder if the common denominator is the fact that BOTH those games are the only ones installed from the Xbox game store on PC. So when added to the dock by dragging and dropping from desktop their link field points to "C:\Users\james\Desktop\Call of Duty®.lnk" and "C:\Users\james\Desktop\DOOM The Dark Ages.lnk" respectively while the other 3 being steam games show something to the effect of "steam://rungameid/391220". If that's the case I hope a fix is rather straight forward. It would then seem you just have a bug in the app disregarding the custom icon setting when loaded.

For games installed via the xbox app, there does not appear to be a way to point a shortcut directly to the game executable. So that is not an option as far as I know. Dragging from the start menu creates a different kind of shortcut link entry but it fails to launch the game.

I tested with your 5 pngs, but I can not reproduce your issue on my system. Note, I unzip your icons into a folder on my desktop. Apply those icons. Hide and unhide the dock. As show below. It still applied. It also survive rebooting. Perhaps try this,

  1. Restore default icons on all those shortcuts.
  2. Exit and restart ObjectDock. See if the default icons still there.
  3. Reapply those custom pngs your're trying to use. See if this work.

Report back.

So your suggestion didn't really work, because it can't due to how Steam and Xbox game shortcuts are made. Steam and Xbox games are not run like traditional exes. They use a URL to trigger their respective launchers, but then Steam and Xbox shortcuts also behave different it seems. When dragged to the dock, an Xbox game appears to adopt the icon of its desktop shortcut. When a steam game is added via drag, it gets added as a blank icon. I can customize both, but while Xbox will revert if i click the reset icon button, the steam one wont because there isn't one it seems as far as OD3 is concerned. I am attaching a sideby side of how xbox, steam and a traditional app appears in both OD3 and windows properties so maybe that gives a clue? I think this issue is coming down to how OD handles these. You may only be able to repro if you too can install games from the windows xbox app. The fact these xbox on pc games were not a thing I don't think when OD2 existed means I yas might need to redo how you handle different shortcut types if at all possible. Before this I was using Nexus dock and this was never an issue so maybe they do custom icons differently somehow under the hood? If there are any logs producable by OD3 for this I'd be happy to send them.

Correction, reset icon for steam games DOES work but just doesnt take effect until after a restart of the app.

I also found a workaround for thge xbox on pc games. If i rightclick in start 11 and create a desktop shortcut of the games instead, it produces a traditional shortcut and then the custom icon sticks. Dragging directly from start itself doesnt work at all with start 11 and dragging from windows start to the dock seems to create a broken shortcut. Windows throws an error. But if dragged to desktop first and then THAT shortcut dragged to dock, it launches games fine AND the custom icon sticks. So, I can work with this, but I still think this is still worth the dev team looking at for folks who may not try that.
