Groupy 2.15 Beta \ Object Desktop Insider Released

We have changed how betas and early releases will be managed and displayed on your account and in Object Desktop Manager.  While some releases will be tagged 'beta' as you have traditionally seen, some now will be in a new 'Object Desktop Insider' section, and lastly, sometimes the same version will appear in both.

Why the change?

This new separation allows us flexibility for offering items explicitly for Object Desktop members.

Does this mean we will not see beta's as frequently?

Absolutely not.  Timely updates to our products will still flow and follow the beta release cadence our clients are used to.

Why would the same version show up as beta and under Insider?

This would be so clients that do not have Object Desktop also have access to an early release should we want all product owners to have it.

With that out of the way, Groupy 2.15 has been released to Beta and Object Desktop Insider today.

Obtaining Object Desktop Insider Builds

Object Desktop Manager

Object Desktop members can get beta and Insider builds from within Object Desktop Manager with 'Enable Object Desktop Insider builds' enabled:

Stardock Download Page

Or via their download page in the ‘Object Desktop Insider’ section

Obtaining Beta Releases

Stardock.com

If a beta was released, Object Desktop Members would see it in the ‘Object Desktop’ section.

Individual purchases would see it on their registration of the product under their download page.

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Groupy 2 a better product.

Known issues

While we appreciate all feedback, please remember that we offer no official support for beta \ preview \ developer channel versions of Windows. If you report issues while in any of those early release channels, you should not expect them to be addressed unless it still exists in a retail version of Windows.

Hi

I still encounter the same issue, huge transparent space.

The worst thing is, it does not auto-group the same applications in this version, I need to set the rule manually.

Of course, I uninstalled and rebooted again to install version 2.15.

FYR.

Thanks.

I use Win11 enterprise version.

Can someone explain to me why i can never seem to get OD past 4.01. I obviously do not have that option i keep downloading from my downloads page but always end up with 4.0

Sadly I still have the same issues with the drop target display. Is it possible to get an option to disable it entirely?

I tried to group a window and then after 8 minutes took this screenshot. 4 minutes later it disappeared. Notice groupy CPU usage. it gets as high as 37%

Unfortunately this seems likely to be some other app conflicting with Groupy and we have had no success in reproducing it.

Disabling the overlay is unlikely to resolve the issue.

Do you have any other utilities running which might interfere with window positioning?

Whilst we were able to reproduce this with 2.12, this is not reproducible with 2.15 suggesting there is something we are missing here.  How are you opening the new windows?  Also are the windows originally maximized and then it jumps to that smaller size?

The autogrouping issue does repro and we will investigate that.

After updating from 2.12 to 2.15, Explorer quit grouping opened windows even though it was set to "Automatically group all 'explorer.exe' windows together." I had to roll back to 2.12 and it started working again. I don't know if it has something to do with changes you made to how Groupy 2.15 controls Explorer. I tried ticking "Automatically group all 'explorer.exe' windows together" to off, rebooting, and ticking it back on which did not fix it.

I will reinstall 2.15 later today and test to see if it still will not group.

EDIT: I redownloaded the 2.15 installer and then installed.

Groupy 2.15 still not grouping Explorer or Notepad windows. However, if "Group newly opened windows when the CTRL key is held down whilst opening the new window" is checked, Explorer and Notepad windows group when the Ctrl key is held down.

Let me know if there is anything else you want me to try.

Buttons were pushed today that should have it updated for all now (there were conditions on a prior, but later than 4.01, version).  If you exit ODM, and reopen, it should update.

I don't Still ver 4.01 Not a big deal.

I also install Start 11.

The window size always uses the default in each application, not specific to maximize or any size.

But if I try to change the setting from default to maximized in VS Code, the transparent case will disappear.

It confuses me why over 2 tabs will cause this case when using the default setting.

And open incognito still blocks the browser part, FYR.

Thank you for your prompt support.

You downloaded, what is the file size for the latest "objectdesktop_setup.exe"?

The new 4.04 will look something like this. New section for insider/beta released.

Not sure, update within from ODM itself maybe. I asked because that might be the issue. Clearly it is not.

well i would but there doesn't seem to be a "Check for update" option. Only a timed one which did nothing when the time arrived. TBH I dont use ODM all that much anyway. I just thought it odd that I could never get anything past 4.01 this entire time.

Just as a suggestion, try another browser or try download from another system.
