Groupy 2.15 Beta \ Object Desktop Insider Released

Groupy 2.15 Beta \ Object Desktop Insider Released

We have changed how betas and early releases will be managed and displayed on your account and in Object Desktop Manager.  While some releases will be tagged 'beta' as you have traditionally seen, some now will be in a new 'Object Desktop Insider' section, and lastly, sometimes the same version will appear in both.

Why the change?

This new separation allows us flexibility for offering items explicitly for Object Desktop members.

Does this mean we will not see beta's as frequently?

Absolutely not.  Timely updates to our products will still flow and follow the beta release cadence our clients are used to.

Why would the same version show up as beta and under Insider?

This would be so clients that do not have Object Desktop also have access to an early release should we want all product owners to have it.

With that out of the way, Groupy 2.15 has been released to Beta and Object Desktop Insider today.

Obtaining Object Desktop Insider Builds

Object Desktop Manager

Object Desktop members can get beta and Insider builds from within Object Desktop Manager with 'Enable Object Desktop Insider builds' enabled:

Stardock Download Page

Or via their download page in the ‘Object Desktop Insider’ section

Obtaining Beta Releases

Stardock.com

If a beta was released, Object Desktop Members would see it in the ‘Object Desktop’ section.

Individual purchases would see it on their registration of the product under their download page.

Reporting an issue

Please include the following for anything found:

  • Exact Windows version \ build (winver.exe)

  • Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen

  • Screenshots and videos are very helpful.  Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post.  Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.

  • If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions.  If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.

Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Groupy 2 a better product.

I have an issue with not being able to drag away one tab in a group e.g. I have various Excel spreadsheets open within one windows, but if I want to drag one tab away to place to the left of the screen, I simply cannot which was working just fine in the previous versions. Am I missing something or it is bugged at the moment?

Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please try uninstall Groupy 2, restart immediately, re-download latest version. Install it. Restart again. Retest and report back.

This is not something I normally do, but I tested it on my system and can confirm the inability to drag tabs away from an Explorer or Notepad group. If I right click one of the tabs in Explorer and select "Ungroup this group," the windows disappear and the tabs remain. on screen. If I then click one of the tabs, the windows reappear. This does not happen with Notepad.

However, if an app is not set to auto group, I can drag a window over another to group and then drag a window out of the group.

Settings: Integrate the tabs, Show all, Rounded tabs, Always visible, Auto group explorer.exe and Notepad (Windows App)

With Groupy 2 turned off, I am able to drag windows away from an Explorer group and then drag an explorer window back into the group

I have uninstalled, reinstalled 3 times already with no change to the behaviour. I did have about 1 hour today when out of the blue I was indeed able to drag the tab away in Excel, but after absolutely no change to the system with the same software open, it stopped working again. I do copy data from one worksheet in Excel to another one and not being able to have 2 windows side by side is absolute pain in the backside. I love groupy, but due to this single issue, I will need to get rid of it until fixed.

You could just install the non beta release.

Do you by any chance have excel set to autogroup?

So, I guess if an app is set to Auto Group, you can not drag a window out of the group because it is immediately regrouped.

Yes, I do, but that is the idea of Groupy to auto group windows from the same app.

However, in the past if I wanted to drag one of the tabs for whatever reason, it was not auto regrouping itself immediately. It should group windows, but give freedom to remove and drag away any tab you want.

Thanks for this fix!

  • Resolved the issue of not being able to drag auto-grouped windows out of group.

Works great. I know of a couple of people who will cheer for this one.

Thanks again for recent updates to Groupy2.

As tabs are added they eventually overlap the window minimize button so the window can no longer be minimized. Also, the window buttons are spaced super far apart compared to other buttons in the same window such as Back and Forward.

We do not control your titlebar buttons so that's not something we can address.

I would guess something on your computer has altered the width setting for those hence the overlap issue.

Something doesn't look right in your screenshot. You should see the tabs getting smaller with every new tab added.

What's the full version of your Windows OS (use winver.exe)?; and what's the full version of Groupy2 you're running? (2.1.5.0; 2.1.5.1; 2.1.5.2)
