The wrong icon for thunderbird is probably an icon caching issue in the OS.  We use what the OS supplies us for the size we ask for.

We will look into the fuzzy icon issue, though I have to ask why a custom scaling factor of 125%?  Non standard scaling factors are not recommended as apps will be forced to resize images sometimes in a non optimal manner.

The wrong Thunderbird icon was indeed a caching issue. I deleted the thumbnail cache and now I get the new Thunderbird icon.

As for the scaling factor: I removed the custom scaling factor and set Display settings > Scale and layout to 125% instead (the normal way to scale things), with the same result that some icons are fuzzy with Start11 but not with the Windows 10 menu.

Are you using lots of right click menus / popup menus provided by Start11?

and are you using the rounded taskbar feature or not?

Not using rounded taskbar,

The taskbar/tray freezes even just setting there idle, regardless of clicking on any menus.

Could you open Taskmanager and see if any of the processes (explorer in particular) have high USER or GDI object usage?  You would need to be on the details tab and right click on the column header to enable it showing those two options.

And is this definitely new with beta 2?

Not sure what a lot is, but these numbers are higher than every other process.

Did not have any freezes in v2.02

Are you using a single or multiple monitors?

4 machines with single monitors, all have the same freezing.

🚨We have a new build that we believe will address some of the issues brought up in this feedback thread including:🚨

1) Resolved a memory and resource leak caused by right-click menus
2) Resolved issue with rapid opening of the right-click taskbar menu causing actions to happen more than once if selected
3) Resolved reset button for rounded corners settings not resetting correctly
4) Resolved vertically centered taskbar buttons causing a shift when using rounded taskbar buttons
5) Resolved issue with custom color button in UI being enabled after toggling use Mica effect checkbox incorrectly sometimes
6) Resolved issue caused by new rounded corners mode which caused a looping issue when a fullscreen non-maximized window was open
7) Removed double prompt for deletion from a popup folder menu

This build is out of our normal testing workflow and may have more bugs or unforeseen issues because of limited testing. This is our standard boilerplate warning for all out-of-band releases.

Confirmed #6 has been fixed. Great work and thank you.

BTW is there a way to make a page "forget" its desktop? I can set a page to open on a particular desktop but do not see a way to return it to "open last opened page" for that particular desktop.

Start11 v2 2.0.0.4 has resolved stability for me. Taskbar / explorer no longer seem to be crashing or stuttering.

The widget menu is now stable. There does seem to be an issue with it always reverting to the taskbar settings of "when there is a maximized window" now. But I will take over the crashing or stuttering as I can always adjust the menu's and look to make it fit.

Seems to be better so far.

My machines were choking immediately on bootup on 2.03, haven't seen a freeze up yes on 2.04

Hi! I found out that the backup feature is not automatically saving the settings each time I change one. Am I wrong ? Is it a feature that will be implemented in V2? Thanks!

Settings are backed up to a file, so you'll need to save another backup every time you make a settings change.
You can overwrite the old backup file or save it with a new file name.

Start11 v2 2.0.0.4

The below issues apply to both Windows 11 build 22621.2428 (22H2) and build 22631.2506 (23H2).

1. When using any Start menu that displays both the Power button and the user account name/image (like shown below with 'Windows 11 style'), if you first click on the user account name/image so that it opens the menu, then click on the power button, the power button menu will not open. Instead, the user account menu will remain open. It will not open the power button menu no matter how many times you click on it. The same thing happens if you do the reverse by first clicking on the power button and then clicking on the user account name/image. But if you click on either of these buttons and then click in an empty area on the Start menu, it will now close the open menu, and you can then click on the other button and it will now work.

2. On the right side of the the Start11 menu button there is a vertical 1 pixel wide line that isn't covered by the Start11 button. So when you click on this it will open the original Windows 11 Start menu (which is obviously underneath the Start11 button). It's literally 1 pixel wide so it's pretty hard to click on it, but it's possible and i first did it by accident, and i can easily replicate it. This doesn't just affect Start11 v2, it also happens with v1. Windows scaling may have something to do with this because i use 175% scale (Settings > Display > Scale). I've also tried 150%. It happens with both. But i can't get it to happen with 100% scale, although that could just be because the Start button is now so tiny on my 4K display that it makes it harder to find that 1 pixel area.

3. Enabling 'Use Mica effect on the menu background' just shows a solid colour on the Start menu. Maybe this has something to do with me using VMware Workstation 17 Player to test out Start11 in a VM before i put it on my main PC, but the default Windows 11 Mica effect is working fine in the same VM and the default blur effect that Start11 uses is also working.

4. Not a bug, but compared to the Windows 10 taskbar, the apps/icons are spaced closer together on Win11, and Start11 has no option to change the spacing as you can do with StartAllBack and other similar software. Usually i space icons further apart to avoid accidentally clicking on the wrong app. Consider adding this option?

5. The Start11 button doesn't match the taskbar. You can see the difference in the purple taskbar colour below, and there's also a 1 pixel horizontal gap at the top of the Start11 button where the colour doesn't match.

Same thing happens here:

Restarting Windows Explorer will significantly reduce this issue when it becomes clearly visible after changing Start11 settings, but doing this never entirely gets rid of it. It's always there to some extent.

6. Probably not a bug, but the right click context menu for the Start menu and Taskbar is not transparent/has no Mica effect. It's pure black. If this is done on purpose then it looks out of place.

Suggestion: The "plus" sign that appears next to "All apps" should stay visible at all times.

Having it appear and then disappear only to reappear can be distracting (just being honest).

Best to have it remain visible so it's there and easily identified by all users.  Really would help.

Another suggestion: The "Universal Applications" folder should be implemented in all menu styles.

Not just the Windows 7 or Modern styles.  Would love to have it in the Windows 11 menu style, too.

Having all these UWP apps visible can clutter up the menu list.  Unsightly.  Can get disorganized.  Yeah.

(I made a separate thread suggesting the same, but am posting about it here so others can see.  Thanks.)

This "+" appears when you hover over the group title. It opens a Start11 context menu.

What do you mean by reverting to the taskbar settings of "When there is a maximized window"?

When I click on the widget menu the taskbar then switches from [when there are no maximized windows] to [when there is a maximized window] which in itself is fine. But when the widget menu closes the taskbar stays at [when there is a maximized window] until another button on the taskbar is pressed.

The setting I am seeing this happen on is

rounded taskbar slider [on] for [when there are no maximized windows] with Y offset set to [medium]

rounded taskbar slider [off] for [when there is a maximized window]

Windows 11 - 22635.2700; Start11v2 - 2.0.0.4

When the taskbar is enhanced, the active app taskbar icon underline is gray, which is really hard to see on darker taskbar colors. (Below)

When the taskbar is not enhanced, he active app taskbar icon underline adopts a shade of the Windows accent color. (Below)

Is this by design or a bug?

If by design, please consider adding an option in configs to to select colors.

Is there a way to remove group name spacing?

I don't want to use names in groups and the label space looks ugly with the new group color feature.

Maybe when the label is empty the space should be reduced to minimum so that the icons look evenly spaced in the group.

Nice work with the new version!!!

Anyway to implement hiding the last couple of visible pixels when windows auto-hide taskbar is enabled? I think this is a hold over from the standard windows taskbar?

I am not sure exactly what you mean here?

When autohide is enabled there will always be a 1 pixel line at the edge of the screen used for mouse detection.

I guess I mean, make that 1 pixel line transparent when the taskbar is collapsed, but still have the mouse detection work. I've seen other software that can do something like that. I'm sure a lot of probably overly concerned OLED owners would appreciate the option.

I guess just setting taskbar transparency 0% gets you there, depending on if your wallpaper plays nice with that.
