DeskScapes 10.02 Beta

Bug fixes

Today we are making a beta available for DeskScapes - version 10.02.

Initial testing has shown that it fixes the following:

  • Applying dreams
  • Dreams not showing a preview
  • Some 'black screen' issues under certain conditions.
  • Errors when trying to run msra.exe

Clients with Stardock accounts can get the beta from your account page:

https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products

Guest checkout clients can use the link below:

https://cdn.stardock.us/downloads/public/software/deskscapes/DeskScapes10_10.02c_Setup.exe

Please uninstall the DS10 version you have now, reboot, and install the beta.

Please use this thread to report any issues, what they are and how to reproduce.

Thanks to the people that helped us with some initial, private, testing.

Regards,

If you are getting that on Desktop Mars then it sounds like there is either a problem reading the dream file or your DirectX installation is damaged,

Could you post a screenshot of the registry keys shown here in regedit : HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\Deskscapes

Still same ol', same ol' the beta did nothing at all to resolve the issue:

And yes I've installed the K Lite Codec Pack and gone through every single other mentioned step :(

With any stock Dreams (Mars for example) or all?

Also please pay attention to what Neil asked ghitelj2 regarding the registry and respond to it.

Do either of you have 'Controlled Folder Access' on?  You can see how to check here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4046851/windows-10-allow-blocked-app-windows-security

If so, and just to test, turn it off, reboot, and try to apply Dreams again with 10.02 beta.

Let us know please.

Mine was turned off.  Turning it on, now...

FWIW- I was able to get "Win 10 logo animated w audio" working, but it glitches at the end of the loop; not sure why, but it never did that before.

That would be unwise, please leave it off.

You are new to this thread so it is unclear if you have the same issue as the OP, the codec issue.  If so, please review reply #5 and respond acordinly as ghitelj2 and justaguySD did with before and after screenshots.

don't have that setting

The current build of Windows 10 should absolutely have that settings.  Please make sure you are on the current build of Windows 10 and review the instructions again.

Controlled Folder Access

I think you don't have that setting because you have "Webroot", You should see if there is setting under Webroot to disable that "Control Access Folder"

ghitelj2, justaguySD and any others with the lingering codec issues, we have released a new beta in an effort to address your issue:

https://cdn.stardock.us/downloads/public/software/deskscapes/DeskScapes10_10.02b_setup.exe

Unistall what you have, reboot, and install that version.

Let us know and thank you for your feedback and patience

Nope, doesn't work :/

One dream digital sunny palms or whatever, WILL come up and will appear on the desktop, but nothing else, and even when I switch back to this dream, it disappears and says no codec, etc...

Before:

After:

No such "virus and threat protection" tab, entry or whatever is in my build of Windows 10, at least following your instructions.

And my Windows 10 is completely uptodate as of this morning.

I reposted  before and after registry entries, and no, I cannot find any such thing as webroot OR controlled access folder after doing a complete scan/search of Windows 10, and I do have the most uptodate build etc...

Did you reboot after the install of this newest build from yesterday?

JustaguySD that "Webroot" was for GregCarlton from reply#12.

I found virus and threat protection, just not where you said it was.... I use AVG as my antivirus (and have all stardock applications whitelisted) but nothing called controlled access folder

Digital sunny palms will load and show on the desktop, nothing else though.

beta version does not work, says I do not have mpeg2 decoder. to get now days something from Microsoft almost impossible.it says I have this decoder. I am running windows 10 on my Toshiba laptop. I did use azdude purge but now it killed my deskscapes 10 totally even that white cottage dream gone. no previews and only still backgrounds work. for the previews black screen. I do not understand what and why it happened after it worked beautifully for 3 weeks. my question also is it going to happened to my desktop and another laptop at home ? I am not using them right now as I am on travel for 3 weeks.
