Compatibility issue with an app?

Compatibility issue with an app?

Please let us know

If you have compatibility issues with WindowBlinds and an application or game, please do let us know in this thread so we can investigate it and hopefully resolve the problem.

Please make sure you are running the latest version of WindowBlinds first and that the problem exists with a theme included with WindowBlinds vs a downloaded one.

Please provide as much detail as you can, screenshots of the problem, information on the application itself, how to reproduce the problem and if possible dmp files from any crashes.

The information on the about WindowBlinds page and information on your setup would be helpful too.

When I unload windows blinds, the canvas background in HelpNDoc is white.

So you are telling me that even though you can tell it to not skin a application, it will still skin some of it because like it or not the base colours (of the skin) have replaced the defaults? Yet, we can tell it to use a certain skin and the choice is there for no skin.

It is frustrating that I have to keep unloading WindowsBlinds when it gets in the way of certain applications and then I have to load it backup again.

That is how things work in Windows.  You have a colour scheme but it applies to everything.  Applications do not get their own colour schemes.  If you have an application which does not look good with some colour schemes then often it is a case of the application using part of the OS colour scheme (say for the background) and then putting hardcoded black text on it.  Basically they assumed backgrounds would be white in which case why did they ask for the colour scheme?

Excluding an application will exclude it from the theme elements, but not colour scheme as that is a system wide thing.

I would never recommend using a dark theme as you are much more likely to run into these issues with colour scheme assumptions.

I use a dark theme because it is better for my eyes. I don't want black, but too much white gives me headaches.

VLC 3.*

Hi,

there is a problem with the VLC version 3:  when themed, the right and bottom edge/margin get extra fill with color, which gets corrupted (turns into black/dark gray) once you try to resize the window. I tried with various custom and default WB themes and the problem persists. It goes away once the app is excluded from WB skinning.

Windows 10 Home (17134.rs4_release.180410-1804)
WindowBlinds 10.65 (048 - Windows 10 Edition) - 64 bit OS

Window titlebar blur features are enabled on this operating system

        Wblind64.dll                 2017/09/05 17:42:00
        Wbsrv.dll                    2017/03/28 16:53:46

I have the previously mentioned corruption of all Steam drop shadows, I've also found WindowBlinds to not play nicely with the current version of Chrome because it has internal skins.  I've also had to exclude both the Nox and Memu android emulators from WB.  OBS (Open Broadcast Software) gets corrupted and had to be excluded from WB.

So I mean thats like 80% of the things I run on this machine that I've had to exclude from WB.  Some of them its wasnt even skinning anyway it was just interfering with their internal skins.  In the case of OBS the WB skins weren't respecting the internal window contents.

I am using windows 10 Home Latest (1803 update, release in april may 2018) and

VS 2015,2017  both crashing when I set captain theme. If I set the same theme again it's work fine.

When I open my machine, (power on) and start using Visual Studio 15 or 17 it's crashing. Kernalbase issue. I set the same theme again and it's working.

I don't find any workaround for firefox. firefox topbar making issue(s). text jaggy and graphic rendering related issue.

WIndows 10 64 Pro build 1803

Windowblinds and the new task view in Windows. Every time I use it, the screen locks and I have to force log out and then log back in, in order to use my pc again. I tried it several times with several different skins, and I get the same result.

Hi there I'm new here. I was wondering if you guys can help with a problem I am having with Windowfx. I downloaded windowfx free trial a few days ago. I noticed that everything works flawlessly except the file Explorer window. It just won't do any of the effects. So figured it would maybe be fixed if I purchased the full version which I did. But it still doesn't work. I am on windows 10 1803. I see it working on all the videos everyone has made. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry if I posted in the wrong thread. I'm just a newbie here.

Thanks for your quick response. I tried the purge. But got an error saying registry value not found and it uninstalled windowfx. I rebooted and reinstalled windowfx. But it's still the same no change. Anything I can try? Thanks again.

First off- My avatar- I know, I know but I can't change it ATM so please bear with me for the time being.

Regarding WindowFX- I seem to recall having similar problems but I was REALLY keen on having my windows burn up when they close (just like Compiz does) so I persevered. I discovered, at the time- around a few months ago, that the trial version of the software available for download is v6.02 whereas the latest registered version is v6.03. Once I'd updated to that version my troubles went away but for some reason the previous version is only available to demo. That might have been rectified since then but I can't tell without downloading and installing which I don't want to do. I do know however that a very similar headache to what you're experiencing cisco that I had for a while went away once I upgraded. I expect this is quite off-putting for all new users!

P.S. AzDude, you might consider moving these posts to a new thread now the topic is diverging somewhat!

Thanks for your reply and help. I am on that version also 6.03. It's still the same problem. I figured updating and purchasing would fix it. But sadly it did not thanks again much appreciated.😀

Back on topic now...

  1. Paint.NET doesn't like the new version of WindowBlinds. It hangs when attempting to save a file. I imagine it's something to do with alpha blending but that's just a novice guess.
  2. To fix Firefox--a long-standing problem--somewhat (keep an eye out for another thread I intend to write up soon in regards to general rendering issues since the Windows 10 April 2018 / Spring Creators Update) please follow this guide. A simple fix which won't work for Thunderbird (which uses Mozilla's same graphics routines) because it doesn't have a Title Bar button in its options menu! Thunderbird can be skinned but to press the max, min and close buttons you have to waggle the mouse pointer around over the button when clicking. Very frustrating.

Oh, wait! I remember a bit more now. I had a problem with an item in Explorer's context menu (right click menu) which was causing things to hang. It was Comodo Backup's fault and once I'd uninstalled that app the problem went away; assuming this is the same problem of course (it was a while ago now!) You may have another app causing a similar problem? I completely forgot about that but, now I think about it, that's another thing you might want to consider tackling.

Thank you I will try that. I'll let you know after what happens. Thanks again!

Well tried the uninstall programs method. But no go the problem remains. I do appreciate your advice though.

Hey there guys I just wanted to give you a quick update on my problem. It has been solved the file Explorer window now works. The problem was a program called System Transparency. Once removed everything works as it should. Thanks again for all your help.

I gotta say this is really disappointing, Stardock could have easily patched this right now.  The only justification is that there just aren't enough customers to justify it.  Plain out Window Blinds 10 works like crap in WIndows 10.  Is Brad aware of this?
