Hello all,

My name is Ben, but I go by "Dover". I grew up playing Star Con 1 & 2 (and even 3). Star Control 2 is easily my favorite game of all time.

I remember wandering through a Hastings in the town I grew up in and randomly found Star Con 2 on the shelves as a new release.  I loved the first one so much that I talked my mom into buying SC2 for me (at the cost of month's worth of allowance and even my birthday present that year) without having any idea what I was in store for.  Needless to say, it was money well spent and altered my taste in games and narratives and even music for the rest of my life.

In addition to my day job, I actually own a little indie board game company (we just funded our second game on Kickstarter!) and even have a very preliminary Star Control battle system that I made a few years ago.

All of this is to say... This series continuing and flourishing is profoundly exciting and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. I have followed plenty of pre-release games in the past, and was even the managing editor of a Curse Gaming site a few years back following SWTOR, but this one is special to me on a whole other level. I'm excited to learn about, and join, this community!

Glad to meet you all!

Dover

Hello,

My name is Dubby104, but I also go by Dubbzy24 (which is my discord name). I was first introduced to SC3 (I know) when I was about 5/6 years old. I always tried to get into the campaign but was too young to figure any of it out. My brother and I enjoyed the hell out of the Super Melee though. When I was about 15 or so, I was getting to old DOS games, and I finally got back into SC3 and beat it. I remember at the time, thinking that no game was like it, and I honestly considered it one of my favorite games. I finally played Ur'Quan Masters when I was in college, and it blew me away. It was a vast improvement on SC3 in every way! I beat it the first time using a guide, because I didn't have the time/patience to dedicate. But I did replay it again a few months later mostly on my own (I did use the guide to help remind me where certain locations were; I didn't take notes). SC2/Ur'Quan Masters is definitely one of my top games of all time, and I always kept looking for similar games. I remember hearing a few years ago when Stardock bought the franchise, and I would google "star control" every few months to see if there was any news. When I learned of the pre-order/founders access, I signed up immediately. I have always enjoyed space games, but I never could find a game that matches Star Control. Outside of video games, I work in IT and enjoy watching football.

Currently I am playing: Mass Effect Andromeda (just beat it), Pillars of Eternity (took a break to play Andromeda), The Long Journey Home (it can be frustrating, but I enjoy it), and Zelda on my nintendo switch (great for killing time on the bus). I have funded/am waiting to play: Star Citizen, Pillars of Eternity 2, Divinity: Original Sin 2.

TL,DR: Names Dubbzy(104/24). Hey

Heya all,

Call me Mike or by my forum handle, either is fine. I'm mostly an MMO player but there was a period before decent internet that I also played a lot of single player games. These included Starflight 1 and 2 and all the Star Control series. And yes there were parts of SC3 that I liked because they were similar to MMO concepts, like the base building. I joined the forum soon after it was started but due to lack of info I was dormant until recently.

Just realised I never posted on here!

I'm Richard, 33, from Australia. Played SC1 and SC2 waaaay too much as a kid. Always a sucker for nostalgia and remakes, can't get enough of XCOM or Civ. Love my 4X, RPG, RTS and tabletop games. Really enjoying the debates and banter in the forums and on discord. The level of engagement and feedback for SC:O is fantastic and it is all shaping up for a great game.

Currently working as a software lead on real time systems in commercial and defence industries. Dabbled in XNA and Unity over the years, but never got too far. Really looking forward to playing with the SC:O mod tools!

Greetings Star Controllers!  Been a fan since the beginning.  I enjoyed playing Starflight and Starflight II.  I never expected there would be another game like Starflight.  I was so excited when I found Star Control 2, and it quickly became one of my favorite games of all time.  And now this shows up.  :w00t:

Hellos :)

My name is Roger, I'm a 34yr old guy from South Africa.  I first played when I was 10 years old on my 286 pc, and rarely ever play anything else till I left High School almost a decade later.  Star Control II took my mind off all the negative things in my life and kept me going through the difficult times growing up.

Thank you Stardock, words can't express my gratitude for bringing Star Control back! Yeah baby!

edit: I'm EmperorZA on Discord :)

Hello All,

My name is Ryan and I remember playing the original shareware version of Star Control on a Tandy computer! These were the days when you can play head-to-head on a single keyboard! Ahh those were the days. I was so disappointed with Star Control 3 and I remember talking to a friend of mine on how it was so cheesy and boring. I am definitely waiting anxiously for the first alpha version to come out so I can start reliving the glory days again!

Hey guys, I'm David.  Some of you might remember me from the UQM forums where I think I posted as Shon-dahre.

I played SC2 tons throughout most of my life from around 93-94 onwards.  It's definitely one of my all-time favourite games.  I was stoked when I eventually discovered UQM, and even played around with the Android port a few years back!  I remember playing with my brother and a couple of friends as a kid, hot-seating in Super Melee and getting annoyed about all the conflicting keypresses :) and the day when I finally got a Soundblaster for my computer (At the age of 10 back in 94, my dad would give us hand-me-down computers for our rooms) was the day when the music and the sound effects really came alive!

I think my most recent play-through of UQM was last year, even though I know the story inside out and back to front, it's still always fun to collect minerals and beat up alien ships for RU :)

I've been keeping an eye on Stardock's Star Control for a little while, just putting off signing up due to a lack of cashflow, but I've finally gone and put the money into it and I'm looking forward to it!

Hi all,

Rarstarr here. I finally remember that I backed this game, so thought I would come along and see all that is happening.

I jumped on this the moment it was available, but am only now getting around to saying, Hi.

I first played SC1 and 2 just after SC2 came out. I have since played them both many times over, (thanks Urquan masters). No matter how many games I play, nothing quite compares to Star Control 2. It's still my favorite game of all time. I'm very excited to see what Stardock is able to do with it seeing as they have done an excellent job with their original IP.

I'm Joe.  I've been playing Star Control and Star Control 2 ever since I learned how to execute the dos commands.  Star Control 2 was a game of epic potential for its time.  It's one of those games that you can pick up every year and enjoy the adventure over and over.  Not to mention the countless hours spent on the Melee simulator.

I'm excited about Stardock picking up this franchise.  As technology grows so do the expectations for a game experience.  This will be a tight rope for Stardock.  To maintain the classic play experience and overhaul a 24 year old game.  Tentacles crossed....

Joe

Hi all,

I'm 37 and I'm so happy to see others of my age group here, sharing their experiences of these great games. I don't mean any disrespect to the younger friends here, it's just nice to see my age group represented. But I digress. Looking forward to playing this and getting to know other fans.

Best,

Hi I'm Thomas.  My family got me some educational games when I was young.  When that stopped the only games left available to me were the free ones.  In the 2000s I found Ur-Quan Masters and was blown away.  Now that I am a Biology Masters student in New York City and have some money, I am exploring 4X and space games.  I enjoyed SoaSE, GalCiv, and AotS but did not preorder them.  I chose to preorder SCO because I know Stardock is so passionate about it.

Hello, I was one of those people who signed up to be a founder as soon as it was available and then promptly forgot about it for a couple years.  I see that I wasn't the only one with this story, and the subsequent 2 years of vault diving to catch up on has been a very interesting read.  I loved Star Control 1 and 2 growing up and was just as confused by Star Control 3 as everyone else.

I am looking forward to this reboot and wish the development team all the best.

Hi, happy campers!

I'm Jonathan or Immermnemion, though the last is more fun to say, from around Detroit. SC 2 was a great time for many years, and I'm looking forward to the work Stardock has put into the next step coming to fruition!

As I was buying a house, I'd needed to cut back on spending for a while. I've got the extra funds to spare on the founder pack now - which is how I'm here and excited to explore the new adventure like many of you!

Hello everyone! I was hesitant on this project for awhile (and still am only cautiously optimistic to be honest). But with the Ghosts announcement has given me a lot of SC excitement in general and with the respect that Stardock has shown to FF/PR from the start, I finally decided to join the founders.

Hello! I've been a long time fan of Star Control II. I'm a founder but actually totally forgot that I supported this project in 2016 until I got an email today haha.

I love the lore and exploration aspect of SC2, so I am a bit skeptical about SCO not using the same lore and aliens. But hey, I'm willing to give stardock a chance and hope they do it justice :)

Malakie here..   And I have to admit, I completely forgot I was a founder until an email just arrived.. LOL   Is there a page showing our information for the game, i.e. founder status? etc etc?

Hi, I'm Dirk, 36 from South Africa. I grew up on Star Control and Star Control 2. I've spent countless hours playing both of them. Figuring out what ship combinations to take to create the best melee team. I might actually play Star Control 3 just to see how it is. I am very excited for SCO.
