'Coming exclusively to 64-bit PCs'..... oh noes! Does this mean no 32 bit? Was seconds away from buying founders elite before I read this. Any 32 bit support at all?

My laptop still has legs for another couple of years. Please tell me I can play this on my laptop. Desktop is a no go for me, I travel a lot. Will I need to get a new processor to run this? :(

No 32 bit. Making games compatible with stuff like 32 bit and DX 9 puts limitations on games. It will be literally impossible to make the next logical step in game designs if one lets such stuff put limits on what you can do.

Currently, there are enough people out there with new hardware to make this a worth while effort. Stardock is not catering a small handful of people with lots of money when they choose to favor 64 bit.

A decent AI and now 64 bit and online.

Now to see some screen shots to see what it really has.

I am used to Space Empires V but the above makes me want to keep aware of progress.

Nice to see you around Mag!! Who would of thought we'd get a number 3! I'm not seeing many of the old hands around yet though!
Get that PC sorted mate!
:)

Is it just me or is the 64bit only and steam only crying a bit too much on the forums already? Okay, i get that those two things may alienate some people, but they both have valid and marketable reasons for their implementation.

I hear you, and you are right.

Its time to let go of the XP and 32 bit comfort blankets, has been for a long, long time. Stardock have stayed true to the fanbase concerning those with older hardware for a long time, but its time to cut the XP and 32 bit umbilical cord and move on - the advantages of 64 bit far far outweigh any dramas.

It will not be an issue, they have decided to dump both, and that's that. They will not discuss it any more - and I don't blame them, its time to move on.

when i saw this i jumped and instantly ordered the elite founder  :D :D

I will be a foundling, but I hope IF you move the game to steam I won't have to rebuy the game. Stardock has always been a great company. The only company I know to give me a FREE game, fallen enchantress, just for buying the original. But I like the ability to not mess with disc's. Not to plug steam. But I hate it when I buy a game only to have it come out on steam and my game code not work so I have keep the disc handy and keep up with patches, and mods. Stardock has been moving toward Steam anyway, I will rebuy Gal Civ I and II at some point. They already gave me fallen enchantress on steam.

So true. I find it difficult to understand any pc gamer that is still using XP and 32bit. The RAM limitations alone would be a headache enough. Any serious gamer (not in school at least) would/should have updated a long time ago, and whining about a game that will be released in 2014 not meeting hardware specs of 2002 really need to address their own needs, not complain on the forums.

Are these people still using Nokia 5110 or Motorola flip phones as well? o_O

Not sure what you mean by "move the game to steam"? The game will be released on Steam. Not via SD Central. I have read nothing about it being released somewhere else other than steam.

Awesome, best news in a long time. I still play GalCiv2 from time to time, because it's simply still the best space strategy game. Instant Elite founder :cylon:

Hey all, the intro cinematic looks fantastic, I am really looking forward both to the campaign, which sounds great if it plays out the story behind the cinematic... be great to play that story as well as finally play multiplayer sand box mode gal civ... talk about replayability, it will be fantastic.

Close lmao :)

I still have my trusty Nokia 6310i

Originally got it principally as a car phone, never had the urge to get the latest tweet every 10 seconds or gaze at the not-so-smiling-visage of the guy on the other end. I find I can survive the day without the urge to gaze on my email every 2 mins when not in the office or at home.

Last but no means least my Bank Manager loves it - it costs me peanuts, I can live without paying aka £40 a month for the latest zipedee-do-da and take copious pics that I would end up deleting ..... *sigh*

Technology is a wonderful thing .... I'm well into it be under no illusion .... but, I can live without the latest dial-an-intrusion mobile. I'll wait another generation or two for the 4th Generation mobiles to settle down, and attain sensible cost, that factors out "look at my dinky toy" syndrome
