Galactic Civilizations III is coming.

The galaxy is dominated by the evil Drengin Empire but those Humans from Sol 3 are about to show them how war is waged.

Providing there is an option for simultaneous turns, it's almost like any other long strategy game (that you need to play over several sessions).

Personally, I can't imagine playing a game like this MP with strangers. I'd imagine playing it with friends co-op (we are going to support playing against random strangers too but I think the most popular way to play will be with friends).

Yeah, friends playing will be popular indeed, but I think you will be suprised how huge the FFA MP comunity will become.

I think it will be a good idea to make an own Multiplayer sticky in the forums when the game is released for people to organize games. There will also pop up Steam groups for organization of grand GalCiv3 MP campaigns. The NO QUITTERS group that is so popular for Civilization 5 FFA games could perhaps also be an arena, I will at least do everything I can to promote CalCiv3 there.

Fantastic. Will the planet combat be as rich and have as much depth and be as interesting as the trailer had?

Looks great.

Are there any plans to make any changes to planet conquest? That is, will it still be: troop ship / choose attack type / roll die / win planet?

I am foaming at the mouth...

Was looking forward to the rapture, but GalCivIII release has now replaced that  ;)

Best part of the trailer? Seeing the bottom half of a Thalan. I was always wondering how the rest of their, or of any of the other races, body would look like.

I was disappointed to see them as bipedals.  In fact, the bottom half looked suspiciously human.  Edit:  On second thought, "disappointed" is a rather strong word.  This is a game after all.  Let's just say I did not envision them that way and think they would look more "alien" if they were not bipedal.

Did not like parts of the trailer

1) Liked:

a small prologue - i hope that besides random maps there will be a single campain with a good plot and cinematics

2) Did not like:

How the battle on terrain was pictured, a single marrine got out of his capsule and took two shots at something, then another marrine took two shots at two lonely enemy soldiers (seemed to be an invasion army)... well not too epic i would say. of course it is mainly the matter of money but i would picture a full scale assult on enemy possitions with air defense shotting down arriving landing parties, then a huge wave of tanks, marrines, hellicopters piricing throught enemy defense lines.

you should realy learn from blizzard how to creat such movies. these really increase the desire to play

And that was not bad but could be better:

The disign of the ships - flying squares are not bad but in my case i would like to see something more... well may be elegant. some models looked good, but some seemed to be taken from some old fiction books.

The battle at space again could be more epic - there was no resistance for invading party, no drama. it looked like we knew how would win eventualy

I thought it was well done and found myself asking "seriously?" as I read your post.  Everyone's entitled to an opinion of course.

I actually was disappointed about their look. In GalCiv 2 it was said, that the Thalan are not humanoid, and have multiple appendages.

However, I still am happy to finally see the rest of their body, even though it contradicts what was said about their appearance. Heck, I'd be glad to see the rest of any of the other races' bodies. With the exception of the Drengin, you only ever see their upper bodies. There even was a joke about that, when you talk to the Terrans: "I may look like I have no arms, but the Terran Alliance has a long reach."

Wouldn't it be neat to see an alien that had six appendages, three legs and three arms? Sort of like the "Medusans" in David Weber's first "Honor Harington" book "On Basilisk Station".

Thank you Stardock for giving me something exciting to look foreword to in my Meh of a life  :congrat:

Awwwww yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

Alien ships y u no shoot back?
I would imagine they were too busy soiling themselves and being catatonic at the sight of an enormous alien fleet of some pretty enormous ships come from literally nowhere in the midst of your own force, and then begin to lazily carve your ships to bits as if they had no defenses at all.  The Drengin are nothing but bullies, and so they react as bullies always do to superior force...fear and paralysis.

Considering the Terran fleet was blowing ships out of the sky near the surface as well as in orbit, it stands to reason they were probably bombarding strategic positions from orbit also.  The troops dropped on the ground were probably a mop-up force, and considering how their armor and weapons outclass those of the Drengin so completely, the troops probably felt the mission was boring and tedious.

Also...helicopters...I'm thinking no.  Some sort of highly maneuverable vtol craft with hover capability...sure.  But honestly it would probably still be a trans-atmospheric craft, which a helicopter of any variety is never going to be.  Tanks of some kind will probably always exist as kind of the battleships and cruisers of land wars.  While mechs will probably be more like the faster frigates and destroyers.

It was intended fully (I think, anyway) to demonstrate that the returning Terran fleet is going to be an event on the order of the return of the Dread Lords.  They'll be all but unstoppable.

I can see that the ships could've looked better.  I don't mind blocky ships, to an extent, nor angular ships...though I prefer curvaceous ships.  But the ships in the trailer did more resemble the designs of kindergarteners, heavily detailed and refined (very prettily so) but not significantly altered, by adults.  They look...clunky...not like military vessels.  Though I'll say this...almost anything is better than the ships in EVE Online.  Those ships may seem extremely pretty (and truthfully, they are gorgeous), but they would never be useful in even rudimentary combat.  Most of them would be completely unflyable.  And as such, they just don't look right...much the same problem with the default ships in the GalCiv games.

I'm hopeful that they'll have enough of the right kind of generic parts (various degrees of sections of saucers and spheres, rather than complete ones that are never quite right), and that the individual parts of the races' styles will be more useable.  I say this because I will neither ask, nor expect, them to change their designs, especially not after this long of the series' existence.  It's theirs and they can do as they like.  But I'll pretty much never use a default design.  Pointless as it is, I insist on my ships making pragmatic sense in design.

As for Blizzard, I haven't really ever been impressed with their cinematic work.  While, by now, object and character motion are top notch, and the resolution of models and textures are great, the designs of the environments, characters, objects and whatnot are...horrible, just terrible.  They're like bad cartoons trying to be real.  It's hideous. Stardock...do not learn anything from Blizzard, I want you to make good games, not crap games.

One point for Blizzard: A movie in the first Starcraft, the one where the marines were blowing the research station with a nuke. I laughed very hard and long with that one.

Anyway this one is good enough for me  . It serves its purpose: make me desire the game.

I was also quite disappointed to see the Thalan as yet another bipedal race. I've always felt the Thalan to be so interesting because they were truly alien in appearance, not just looking like a human with makeup/rubber forehead/extensive prosthetics. That and the bottom half in the trailer just looks odd.

Im wondering if that Terran fleet that kicked so much butt is from the future or a more advanced other dimension.  You have a scene where you see the New Terrans fighting what looked to be  'modern" Terrans, and the modern ones bite the big one.  Would also explain how they are so much more advance, or perhaps an offshoot of the Terrans found a lost horde of alien tech and goodies.  My bet is that they finally uncovered the Long Lost Battleship of Lord Frogalis...rumored to have one taken over the universe, only to disappear...

They are from the pocket universe, where they have been hiding since the end of the campaign in GalCiv 2: DL. It's all explained in the Databanks, if you don't want to play the campaign again.

Where? I can only see them destroy a couple Drengin ships, and kill some Drengin shock troops.

Theres a planetary scene, unless i hallucinated it all, showing a brief fight on the surface.  The troopers looked rather the same, but the ones doing the killing look more advanced.

About 1;14 into the movie it looked to me as if the Terrans from the pocket universe had landed on Earth and were killing the troops there.  Maybe its another planet though.  I can see English writing on the advanced Terran weapons...but  nothing on the ones they are killing.

That's Arcea, not Earth. At least, it looks like it to me. The troops, the Terrans are killing, however, are definitely Drengin.

It's a pocket universe solely populated by the crews of the Terran fleet - who spent the entire time they were there preparing to come back and kick Drengin asses (and any other asses that may present themselves). Plus, I'm going to call it now and say there is something about the time gradient being different in the pocket universe so they've spent generations researching and building their fleet, while in the main universe it's only been 5(?) years since they left.

Was this the same pocket universe the Dread Lords were in as well?  Could it be they found some tech the Dread Lords, or something else there as well?

Hey, looks good. I am really wanting for this to be a good turn based strat game. I look forward to spending long hours playing this game.
