Brad's unofficial, private builds of FE

Brad's unofficial, private builds of FE

Before I check in my code, I try to do a lot of testing.  Sometimes my changes get thrown out  because they may cause incompatibility.

But if anyone is interested in playing with my personal builds which try things like new AI techniques, performance improvements but also probably some bugs, post here.

DISCLAIMER:

This is an unofficial build. This is built on my personal machine at home. Do not report "bugs" anywhere but in this thread.

---

Build:

v1.0Frog

What's in it:

+ Crash fixes

+ AI more careful about going on difficult quests

+ AI more likely to use strategic offensive spells (untested)

+ Significant performance boosts late game (but untested, may blow up your video card and harm pets)

+ Improved base frame rate on test system from 22fps to 45fps in a late game scenario.

Is there any chance for the AI thinking time to be improved? My AI Int = 3 is rather slow.

Huge number of crashes upon leveling, you should be seeing them all in your queue since I am logged in and the software still transmits crash info.

its not e thinking, it's that the movement is per player now. they used to move simultaneously.

I believe there were many problems occurring because of simultaneous moves, most notably AI factions (including monster faction) not being able to 'interact' well.

I could be wrong, or there could have been more serious things going on as well.

perhaps an icon beside the faction power list showing you if a players turn is done. Might be useful to let people know the game is not actually slowing down.

why did you change that? I liked it a lot

People were complaining (correctly) that the AI could avoid being attacked by monsters since monsters only move 1 space per turn.

You made the right choice Derek/Brad. The game needed it.

I can understand monsters and wildlands moving first, but why keep factions moving separate?

So that enemy factions can attack each other during war...

Well, that will certainly change my strategy of being an AI so monsters and AIs can't attack me.

The AI factions move simultaneously. But they have their battles syncrhonously now. It makes the turns take longer but ensures that they're not moving over each other trying to attack one another.

I vote for moving the AI factions serially. I know you guys belong to the Cult of the Fast Enemy Turn--and maybe it's just because I'm used to TBS's being like Civ and Total War--but I find simultaneous enemy moves to be far too confusing and I swear I see it causing things happen that shouldn't. But I can't prove it.

I certainly approve separating them as much as you did. But I want more!

Are performance improvements from hamster applied to 1.004 beta build?

Yes. Noticeable. 1.004 is also very stable for me, but so were Brad's personal builds.

1.004 is newer than my build here.

I prefer hamster build. Maybe because of a bit more comfortable camera moving. Overall camera moving is still not smooth for me even in early game. Please, make it more comfortable.

When I turn off Outlines, map scrolling (camera moving) is much better.
