Before I check in my code, I try to do a lot of testing.  Sometimes my changes get thrown out  because they may cause incompatibility.  

But if anyone is interested in playing with my personal builds which try things like new AI techniques, performance improvements but also probably some bugs, post here.

DISCLAIMER:

This is an unofficial build. This is built on my personal machine at home. Do not report "bugs" anywhere but in this thread.

What's in it:

+ Crash fixes

+ AI more careful about going on difficult quests 

+ AI more likely to use strategic offensive spells (untested)

+ Significant performance boosts late game (but untested, may blow up your video card and harm pets)

+ Improved base frame rate on test system from 22fps to 45fps in a late game scenario.

If you are using the "unofficial" builds, please see the note in the post about the beta on reverting the main EXE to 1.00 before patching. You do not need to reinstall completely.

it's reasonably stable for me, it gets unstable if I reload without exiting game first but that's likely a 1.00 issue exacerbated by this version ( should be fixed in 1.01 though )

Can someone for the love of god link me an original 1.0 Fallen Enchantress exe? This version crashes on the second turn, and my back up exe folder was somehow empty. I guess Windows was saving me from myself and refusing to move an EXE I specifically told it to move. 

 

I really want to play the game ok? I am in a hotel in Germany, cant download 3.6 gigs for a small exe file.

I've noticed a large difference in stability between my two laptops.

 

My newer laptop crashes frequently with this game, my older one doesn't.  Does FE perform better on AMD cards?  (drivers updated on both)

I have no problems with stability on my Intel/Nvidia system. And both my CPU and video card are overclocked.

Is there a way to have a dual Enchantress installation, so I could try your private build but still preserve the latest official release (1.00 at this point, hopefully 1.01 coming soon!)?

Keep both .exes and rename as needed. You can also copy your entire game folder and keep one .exe in the first one, and the other in the second one, but this is much more time and space-consuming.

Is it just the .exe that changes?  None of the other data files with the game?

The 3rd edition works fine. Except random crash when loading a game with an already running one.
Works if you restart the game tho. (In my case avoids me to abuse load autosaves ^^)

Earned new FPSs with it.

Tried it this evening, seems to crash much... In 1.30 hour of playing :

Once on loading "in game" (ie go to menu then load while playing)

Once then just while I was reviewing equipment after a fight.

And I had no crashes since 0.9x builds !

Yep, just private code changes.  I've been implementing performance improvements and addressing AI complaints I read on the forum.

If you're looking at any of my crash reports- I won't be able to access that laptop until Saturday morning, so I won't be of much help- sorry.

This should address crash reports people have had. When the game crashes, it still sends it to us.

Thanks Brad much quicker and smoother game for me but lots more crashes though! Are the 1.01 changes included in this? I noticed that my production times were different and I figured it was this change:

1.01:

Changing the game pace now also modified production times

I just tried the puppy build for a few turns and i get a huge performance boost. My computer also unloads the game faster when i exit it. Graphics performance improves as well - i think all the particle effects and transparencies are shoiwng up properly on my graphics card now. My laptops have no trouble with them, but my mac has a low end graphics card which is purring now on the game. I'm running it on bootcamp in windows 7. mac pro quad core, nvidia geforce7300 gt card. drivers all up to date.

every single patch (the beta) has improved my graphics on the mac since .85, but these tweaks you made for the puppy build are huge.

I started crashing on "turn" (twice in ~15 turns) with the new build.
I have autosaving at each turn on, maybe is it linked ? I mean, the game crashes caus of saving while turn ?

I turned autosaving off. let's see if it works

Crashes that i have on vanilla i have with Stormworld also x)

So it's safe mate!

PS: 50 turn played with autosave OFF, 0 crash or anything. It was the autosaving that was crashing the game.

The new builds seem way more unstable than 1.00 or even 0.9x... I could play for hours without crashes, now I have CTD after less than 1 hour !

And everytime I go back from the game to the main menu and load a save, CTD too..

The bunny update is now up.

Should fix the instability. Thanks for running the Puppy build. Was able to find the cause of the crash (same bug every time).
