Fallen Enchantress - Beta FAQ

Fallen Enchantress: Beta FAQ

Welcome to the Fallen Enchantress beta!  This FAQ should answer most of the common questions you might have for the FE beta.  Again, thank you for your help in testing FE and we'll be around to answer any other questions that might come up.

Q: Who gets the Fallen Enchantress Beta?

A: Everyone who purchased War of Magic in 2010 will receive free access to the beta.  These invitations will be staggered, watch your email to see when your invite arrives.

Q:  I’m in, where do I download it from?

A:  FE will be a direct download from your Stardock account page - https://store.stardock.com/login.aspx?ReturnUrl=/myaccount/products.  Login with your account and you will find the Fallen Enchantress beta available under the “Games” section.

Q: How do I know if I receive access?

A:  We will be sending out e-mails, you can also check the Elemental purchase page (while logged in) to see your upgrade/beta status or simply check your downloads page

Q:  I found a bug or issue with the game, what do I do now?

A: If you have feedback please post in the FE Beta forum (https://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/1010).  If you encounter any bugs or issues please post those in the support forum

To make it easier for us, please tag your post title with [BUG], [CRASH], etc.  Also, when reporting any issue, please let us know what version of the game you encountered the error on.

Thank you for your help in making Fallen Enchantress great.

Q: Is there an NDA for the Fallen Enchantress Beta?

A:  There is no NDA for the beta.

Q: Do I need to activate Fallen Enchantress?

A: The Fallen Enchantress beta requires the player to be authenticated to receive the latest updates.  You will receive a serial number with your beta invite that you will need to register your game.

Q: When will the final game be released?

A: The specific date has not been finalized yet, when it’s set then we’ll let you know!

Q:  I love Elemental!  Where can I talk about it or find out news about it?

A:  Pretty much anywhere.  We have pages on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, and of course our own FE forum for people to discuss it.

Well, I thought I had pre-ordered the game but found out by looking at my purchase history that I bought it on the 25th.  What a BUMMER!!!!!  I even paid $60 total to get the DVD--that should count for something!!!!!  (other than me being a wanker!)

To be fair, I think Stardock needs to create a simple algorithm for those who purchased it after the release date but still in 2010.  Why should a guy who bought the game on December 31st, 2010 be allowed to download it the same time as someone who purchased it the day after it was released?!?!?  <grin>  Essentially, instead of having to wait the full week to download the beta, they need to divide the time, in minutes of the week (10080), by the nuber of days from August 24th through December 31st in 2010 (129), and multiply that answer by the number of days AFTER the 24th to get your time (in minutes) to give you the time period after 3:00 today when you can download the beta.  For instance, I purchased it 1 day after the release, so...

(10080 mins/129 days) * 1 day = 78.14 minutes

Thus, I should be eligibale for downloading it at roughly 4:20 this afternoon EST.

Come on, Brad, there's still 4 hours and 45 minutes before the beta release... you can do this!!!!!!  Of course, if it's too difficult to do this now for everyone, you can always just set me up for a 4:20 download since I've done the math for you ;-)

I got a little question:

Will the Beta also ba available on my Impulse account? I know that Impulse is now owned by GameStop but I thought/hoped that the integration would still be good so that I don't have to install it from the stardock page but rather from Impulse? Actually Elemental WOM has shown me how cool Impulse is and I'm now more of a digital game purchaser... :-)

No.  The FE beta will be available from Stardock only.  However the full release is likely to be available from multiple DD providers.

The email was sent to whatever email address you registered War of Magic with.

No, as the other poster said it will only be available via the Stardock download links.  For final release (whenever that may be) I'm sure there will be digital options, but this is just a beta.

Frogboy already said the email is not necessary. If you preordered the beta will appear on your account.

Thanks for the quick answer (also to the other user) - just checking because the original WOM Beta was also handled by Impulse (if I recall correctly) but well seperate client is also fine for me. Even better, I can download it on Linux and switch to Windows when fully downloaded which means I can be productive *yay*

The WoM beta was handled by Impulse; that was when Stardock still owned Impulse. I like simply using the site better; it means there's one less piece of software on my computer.

Question! Frogboy said to email bugs to [email protected] but the FAQ says to post them in the support section; the only support section is in the WoM subforum. What do we do with bugs?

Updated the bug reporting section:

To make it easier for us, please tag your post title with [BUG], [CRASH], etc.

there is supposed to be a serial number in my invite? where???

You need to login to the Stardock Store, that's where you get your code for FE ("Show Serial Number" or somesuch).

@ delad: Since I had the same issue here a way to find it: In my account you can look for fallen enchantress and let your serial number be shown there. Hope it works for you as it did for me... :)

Overall the game is much slicker then WoM. I am liking it.

While it crashes less it still crashes. Reloading causes out of memory crashes so if I want to reload I exit the game, run it again, and then load. Haven't crashed since I started that policy.

No reason for it to even happen though what with my massive 8GB of ram and x64 windows.

Also, keyboard/mouse input should be disabled while loading... it causes weird issues. Obviously I don't press anything while its obviously "thinking" but sometimes it looks like it finished loading / calculating a turn end but it didn't really... so I click and instead of moving nothing happens... then 10 seconds later a popup of something important (city levelup, etc) appears and instantly closes with either selecting nothing or selecting some random thing.

Also, it should be impossible to end turn without an active research. sometimes (especially when reloading autosave) you get stuck with no active research and can spend many turns not researching anything without noticing.

Is this version of the game the only beta or will there be updates?

How do we get the updates, does this version update itself or do we need to use impulse, or keep re-downloading and re-installing?

So far it is not showing up on impulse. So I think we are gonna have to manually redownload

It's never going to show up on impulse.  Stardock doesn't own impulse any more.  You have to go to the stardock store.

Ryansee:

Far as I can tell there is a zoom lock feature.  Zoom your mouse out, then point where you want to zoom in and the screen will zoom to the cursor.  It;s a little weird but it works well.  Also you can drag the main map by click-and-drag.

I preordered the Limited edition of E:WoM on August 4, 2010.  I received and registered my copy 12/13/2010 but I do not have anything on my Stardock account about the FE beta, and I never received an email although my email hasn't changed on my Stardock account ever.
