A speech to encourage those that have lost hope in War of Magic.

A speech to encourage those that have lost hope in War of Magic.

I was thinking about how many have spoken about losing faith in Stardock and specifically, Elemental War of Magic.  I tried to think of encouraging words, but I decided that instead of using my own words, I would adapt a famous speech from the past.  So, I have adapted the majestic Clark W. Griswold speech from Vacation when his family lost hope in Wally World.

"I think you're all fucked in the head. We're ten weeks from the fucking fun patch 1.3, and you wanna bail out! Well, I'll tell you something, this is no longer a game . . . it's a quest! It's a quest for fun! I'm gonna have fun, and you're gonna have fun! We're all gonna have so much fucking fun we'll need plastic surgery to remove our Goddamn smiles! You'll be whistling Zip-a-dee-doo-da out of your assholes! I've got to be crazy! I'm on a pilgrimage to see a Frog! Praise Frogboy!"

Hopefully 1.3 will arrive early enough so that Fallen Enchantress will not completely overshadow it. Because I would definitely like for both games to have a future in case 1.3 turns out to be good.

 Elemental is an epic fail.

That unique titel still belongs to MOO3, IMHO.

All I really care about is WoM. I wanted a great 4x game that revolves around magic and still do. The more I hear about FE and even more future plans for the franchise, the more convinced I become that WoM will get stuffed on to the back burner. It might get some DLC, but I don't see the game evolving much beyond this point. It was incredibly painful for it just to get here. So it's hard to maintain faith in the present when the big emphasis at SD now seems to be something other than WoM.

Honestly, one of my biggest concerns for both WoM and FE is the quality of the tactical and strategic AI.

Why should anyone put faith in "thing that are not alive?"

What?  Faith is just the trust in something or to believe in something.  Not sure what your point is.  Faith is being used here as trust in Stardock and its game to someday be more than it is today.

Right, it's would be silly to trust in something, would be wise to trust in living thing, not that thing that are not alive? Just wonder and help your mind to understand if your mind bear and willing to face pain of turth... :)

Or face the pain of terrible spelling and grammar!

Huh, you must be going deeper than I can go.  I guess Trust in Stardock, as Stardock is made from people, just like soylent green.

LOL, but ask yourself, if you had a dream that you do not want, where is those dream come from? Surely it's might not from your brain. my terrible spelling and grammar is no pain to me, in fact people mocking me of my spelling and grammar that make me so used it, so I feel no pain of people mocking me spelling and grammar, ;) it's been like this most of my life, a terrible spelling and grammar people telling me about me, though some believe I can get better, but I pity them because I knew I might not get better of spelling and grammar. LOL.

Not mocking you. I just have no idea what you're saying.

That and I saw an excellent opportunity to sneak in my awesome new catchphrase.

Only one?  You are very optimistic.... even the classic opiate of the masses is still drugging people in full force...  whats a little mixed up grammar to that?  ROFL

Haha.  I am Athiest and anit-Drug, so my mind is only fogged by the possible genetic passing of mental illness from parents, one Bipolar and one Schizophrenic.  That is how you make a Xia...

I guess my actions speak.   Impulse had a half-off sale of Elemental last weekend; I still didn't buy it.   And yet I'm still logging in here.

i haven't played the game since the first official release(haven't even tested the new magic system since it changed).  i decided to wait until v1.2 to give it a go.  i have tons of faith in stardock and the elemental franchise i just wanted to wait until it approached what the stardock team wanted it to be.  i have just about forgot how to even play the game lol.  i look forward to playing it once again.  my only wish at this point is for them to get multiplayer working well.  i have a couple of friends that i talked into getting the game before it came out and one of them hasn't even played the game because of the lack of solid multiplayer.

1.19l was released less than 24 hours later to deal with the bug in question. It's available right now.

Anyway, regarding the topic at hand...

Thanks for your kind words.

I think the post should be called faith in War of Magic, not Elemental since eventually there will be quite a few Elemental: <Game>

Do *I* have faith in War of Magic's future? It really depends on v1.3 as that will really be the do-or die version for the game in my mind. If people hate that, it'll be time to just focus on Fallen Enchantress.  If people like the direction it takes, then it's on to v1.4 which will diverge further from FE/WOM 1.0.

My question - When you say if people hate it, as in the majority or whatever, it'll be time to just focus on FE, does that mean that those of us who still believe in the game (Even if I haven't played it in a month or two) will be stuck with 1.3 until FE comes out? I pre-ordered so I still get FE free, but I'm just curious.

Also, completely off topic, if someone got the collector's edition pre-order and decides they want the collector of FE (If there is one, though I assume there is since Elemental's origins are in that of those old games that came with the full manuals, lots of lore, and maps etc) will we have a discount, pay normal price, or get that free as a transition?

This is my first time back to the forum in a few weeks. :D HAI XIA.

I think the main problem with Elemental War of Magic was that even forgetting all the bugs and stability issues, the fundamental game design felt broken and not fun. That to me was the biggest worry when I started playing the game when it was released, because bugs and stability issues can be addressed, but core game design is not easily fixed once a game has been released. I was expecting large scale tactical battles with dragons and other fantasy creatures fighting with/against armies of men, so I was very quickly disappointed, especially considering the complete lack of depth to the tactical battles.

Thats why I think it was a smart business decision to focus all the major effort on Fallen Enchantress, going for a completely clean slate and with a new game design reworked from the ground up. Its good for us existing customers, as it lets stardock make major game design changes to address the faults of War of Magic. Its also good for new customers, because when its released and if they did a good job, they should be able to bring in a lot of new business without the baggage of the previous game.

So all in all, ive still got no faith in Elemental: War of Magic ever being much fun, but I have hope that FE willl actually be one of the best 4x fantasy games I will have played.

The fundamental problem, the natal defect in the game, is that it is based on A Song of Ice and Fire, and not on Hammer Slammers.

Very true, Lords of Magic was buggier (for me) than Elemental was when I first played it, but Lords of Magic was far more fun.

Specifically the Special Edition (there was a patch for that which I never got though). It was better on older versions of Windows, when the bugs mostly just caused wierdness that could be removed by saving and reloading rather than crashing out right.
