Will Stardock get the 1.9 gig update bug fixed?

Will Stardock get the 1.9 gig update bug fixed?

hey guys, are you working on a fix for the having to downgrade to the non-beta then back up to the current beta version to avoid a 1.9 gig update?

Also, I always try and post saved games, error logs, custom sov. files, crashes, screen shots etc but I feel like I'm being ignored when I post bugs, nothing is ever done about them.

Same problem here. Update size reported as 1.99GB, download size 1.91GB. Initially installed via digital download.

Deleted the UpdateSizes key, but the download was still 1.91GB. (I tried deleting the key then downloading without restarting Impulse. It just recreated the key. Then I tried deleting the key and restarting Impulse. It recreated the key again).

Like Panda_Power I'm in no rush to update (I don't have time to play much atm), but I'm happy to run more tests to help figure out the problem.

Yes (I'm in Italy).

OK.  I sent you a list of instructions for the next time an update is available so you can send us the log.

Thank you.

Zargon

I received and understood them.

I'll do my best to be helpful in fixing this issue

Hi,

the update from 1.10.052 to 1.11.053 has been only 9.06 MB for me, so probably you have fixed the issue (at least for updates from 1.1).

Thanks! ^_^

Are there any work arounds for this - my patch from 1.1 to 1.11 requires a 1.9 gig download. Not ideal

The registry entry says:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stardock\ComponentManager\UpdateSizes

elemental$1.10.052$$1.11.053$$

2138823650|1|2414201790|1

This is after deleting it and trying update again in impulse. Still seems to be the same size.

This was initially a download via impulse, rather than an install from a disc.

For me from 1.10 to 1.11 requires a 1.4 gig update.

Cmon guys you have had months to get this game up to snuff. This should be fixed ASAP.

No excuse for this.

I too am getting the mega update problem. I am not a beta user either. Please post a fix.. I don't want to have blow my d/l limit with such a large update.

seem i have the same issue though seems worse... i cant update from 1.10 to 1.11. soon as i enter impulse the game status says paused. so then it says do you want to continue to download i press of coarse yes. ( size 2.25gig) after i press yes soon after impulse stops responding  and the program crashes. i have repaired impulse and uninstalled and reinstalled it all lead me to the same deal. anyone else has this problem? and or suggestions?

Well, there was a matter of a Christmas and New Years break that got in the way. I don't want to sound too much like an apologist, but Stardock were actually proactive in contacting me about this issue and Zargon has been a big help in trying to work it out.

Anyway, I am wondering if the problem lies with the update relying on the default installation path for Elemental? I don't have any games installed on my C: drive, nor Impulse installed within Program Files on C:, both reside on the same drive as my steam stuff, though obviously Elemental is sitting within the Impulse directory.

Impulse and Elemental are installed at the default path on my machine, so that's probably not it.

on all of my computers( 4 that are elemental compatable)impulse, elemental AND other stardock source software are in their default paths, BOTH xp 32 bit and win 7 64bit, and all installed BY impulse, what I object to is the 12+ HOURS of downloading at 1.5mbit.

Well patching for me from 1.09 to 1.10 was a 1.91 gig update problem and I was told it was my fault and not the games or impulses.

Well never ever blame the customer and lo and behold it wasn't my fault.

As I bought a copy of the LE I have it on disk so I deleted everything and re-installed everything and it was 300meg download (I think) to update it from 1.0 to 1.10.

Now after all that to go from 1.10 to 1.11 it requires a further 1.41 gig update. C'mon guys.

Things like this should be getting fixed.

I am running Windows7 64-bit home edition.

I have installed Impulse and Elemental under my games HD and not the c:\ root path.

Stardock, I suggest you PM all of the Elemental users and work with them to find just what's causing such a big problem from one major patch (1.1) to a relatively minor but still not totally minor update (1.11).  There must be a common thread somewhere, and by not addressing it you are allowing much confusion, angst and anger because an update which should be just a few MB ends up being *virtually the entire game* every update.

If you value your customer service, work with those having problems updating 1.1 to 1.11 and get the huge update problem nailed for good. :banhammer:   What other game requires a good number of people to basically have to re-download the game each patch?  I personally am not updating to 1.11 until the patch problem is fixed, and I'm sure a lot of other people don't want to download 1.99GB every "minor patch" (in terms of actual file differences).

Best regards,
Steven.

1.1->1.11 shows 1.99gig

starting update goes well beyond 10meg and the 1.9 gig didn't change at all. cancelled the d/l

the reg entry is same as the 2 screenshots above

blanked the reg entry.. start impulse again... still shows 1.99 gig

digital copy.. since 1.00

Just gathering some more information to try to track down the issue...

Can someone who is having the 1.9GB update problem hold down the Shift key and right click on Elemental in Impulse and select 'Verify Installation'?  After some calculating, you should get a prompt that says "Elemental: War of Magic is installed correctly."

Tried it, makes no difference.

Yep, made no difference for me either.

I just verified the game and it tried to download 1.41 gig again,

Verified and still 1.99gb

As we're still looking in to things, can someone try to Reset the Impulse data.  Here is how you do it:

- Delete the UpdateSizes registry key for Elemental as described earlier in this thread

- Go in to Preferences

- On the General tab, click the 'Reset Data' button.

- Impulse will go through a simulated self update

- Let Impulse calculate the download size of the Elemental update.  If you click on the Updates tab in Impulse and are viewing the applications in the Details view, the Download Size column will say 'Calculating...' while this is happening.

- Report back with any results.

Followed those steps. Still reports a 1.91GB download (and still tries to download over 100MB, at which point I stop it)

{Edit: I also tried enabling beta Impulse updates. Installed an update, restarted Impulse, deleted the UpdateSizes key, started the Elemental update... Still 1.91GB}

Sry I just downloaded the 1.9 Gb thing. Can't be arsed to wait and have unlimited dl so... :)

I too am getting the 1.4 Gb update required, and as I live in rural Oz and my internet connection is a relatively slow satellite link with a dl limit I cannot proceed. (my monthly limit is 1GB peak and 2 Gb off peak)

I originally installed from disk and updated to 1.1, with Impulse coping very well with a digital subscription when I did that,  (Yes I have 2 copies of the game, 1 on disk and 1 digital). It was only a 400 MB or so upgrade.

I did install the 1.11d exe.

I have reset the data on Impulse and verified the game.  It gives a message of an incorrect install and stays with the 1.42 Gb update required.

Is the update assuming because the exe is unexpected it has to update nearly everything?

Anyway I am stuck on 1.11d until this is fixed.
