Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Games to be made.

I know there are lots of old school games out there, with more game-play than most of the new ones, they just need to be re-made right.

Here are some I can think of, off the top of my head:

WAR, INC.  (your a mercenary company.. includes stock investing, cloning troops, building an army that came with you from mission to mission, maybe the addition of a conquest map)

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/warinc/index.html

DOMINUS (just full of awesome features.. it is just a couple things short of being one of the most awesome strategy games ever)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/747/Dominus.html

CASTLES!  (an old castle building sim that took weeks of my life)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/402/Castles.html

BTW, I think most of these are abandonware.. soo you can download them free and play with dosbox.   just to get an idea of what they are. I still like them even with the dated graphics.

Anyone else have any great old games that need to be redone that I am missing?

1) Little Big Adventure.  Here's abandonia review:

 WOW…
How can I even start to describe this game? Well to be honest, I can’t. At least not just by playing it. To tell the truth I had to look around the net for various other reviews for this game. I needed to see if they managed to catch the magnificence of Little Big Adventure in their review, but no-one had even come close to give the game its justified glory. And I can understand why. This game is without a moment of doubt the BEST game to ever be released in 1994!  The French company Adeline fell apart a couple of years later...

2) a X-COM that runs on windows 7 =)

3) Birthright - The Gorgon's Alliance

is a Dungeons & Dragons campaign setting that was first released by TSR in 1995.The setting based on the world of Aebrynis on the continent of Cerilia, in which the players take on the role of the divinely-empowered rulers, with emphasis on the political rulership level of gameplay. In 1996, Birthright won the Origin awards for Best Roleplaying Supplement of 1995. Though it has a dedicated fan base, Birthright currently has no corporate support, unlike Forgotten Realms and Eberron.

The setting revolves around the concept of bloodlines: divine power gained by heroes and passed to their descendants. Characters with a bloodline create an aura of command known asRegency, which is measured in the game using regency points or RP. Using regency, characters acquire a domain composed of provinces and holdings. The development of these domains is as much a part of the game as development of the characters. The game uses three-month domain turns to model actions of rulers over nations in much the same way as Dungeons & Dragons (and hence, Birthright) uses combat rounds simulating six-seconds of time to model the characters' actions in battle.

During its four-year run, 25 roleplaying products and five novels were published by TSR, as well as a computer game by Sierra On-line. The line was suspended before the publishing schedule was complete. By the time Wizards of The Coast had cancelled the line after buying TSR.  :(

4) Abuse -  Platform shooter  by Crack dot Com

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/97/Abuse.html

5) Dark Sun - The shattered Lands   by SSI (RPG in the wonderful world of Dark Sun)

http://www.thehouseofgames.net/index.php?t=10&id=249

I hope that I brought back good memories with all these games...I played the birthright computer game when I was 10 and it was a bit too complex for me.  However, I saw my brothers playing this game around a table with dice and it looked so awesome! |-)

You mean Emperor of the Fading Suns? That would be great, this game has great potential, but needs a better AI and other improvements.

Get the mods for it, and it plays reasonably well :-)

Those games are just *begging* for a modern remake.  [Without the persuadatron, though, which was just silly.]

Oh, Dungeon keeper is being remade as well, as some Asian MMO actually, I'll see if I can dig out the articles at some point. Xcom is being remade as well in a few different versions, both the FPS version and there is a true spiritual successor in the make as well.

"Dungeon keeper is being remade as well, as some Asian MMO"   <-- this makes me very sad.

I am not a fan of the "Lets turn everything into an MMO so we can be the next WOW craze"  I understand there .. sometimes, is money in the MMO area that is not in the single player games.. But that does not mean they should crank out one crappy MMO after another. (Still bitter after trying "Fallen Earth" and the new star trek mmo.  They are  just not for me.

Now I would be up for a Dungeon Keeper and X-Com mixed game..

Oooh, you know, I think Stardock could make a pretty neat Deadlock III.

MOO 1 - a clash of the militaries game NOT an empire building game like Galciv-  ;P

And MoM, of course. Elemental is not a remake of MoM, but I guess something like it can be done as a mod.

Well Along the same lines I would like to see Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic  redone. This is what I was hoping Elemental would do but it is close.

There is an extremely slight chance that Xcom will be the game that Irrational games reveals tomorrow as the game they have been working on for the past 3 years, but most bets are on either System Shock 3 or a new IP.

I too vote for the already mentioned Alpha Centauri, a vastly, vastly underrated game. Even though it had some issues with the AI, graphics and a horrible exploit, it was the perfect continuation of the Civilization franchise and it offered something no Civ-style game before and after did: an actual story and thoughtful, challenging ideas.

It was deeply philosophical and with its rather grim view on human nature also pretty scary. The videos for the secret projects were little artistic masterpieces and induced nightmares when I was younger. At the same time, they were quite inspiring and produced memorable quotes. Even nowadays when I watch some of these videos I feel uneasily inspired and am baffled as to how current they are/will become.

Have I already mentioned that this game is vastly underrated?

Lots of people looking for a new XCOM game, I think the UFO series did an OK job, but they didn't add the depth and verity that the game needed. The game just got boring after you complete the same quest 50 times.

I always thought Alpha Centauri was a little miracle in the gaming world.

The atmosphere was incredible, perfectly conveying the feeling of being lost on an alien world, having to overcome environmental hazards, native wildlife, technological restrictions and the potential enmity of the other factions. Terraforming was literelly a (complex!) game within the game, giving you the freedom to alter the environment completely to fit your industrial needs, to alter it to build a green paradise on "earth", or even to adapt to it to the point of living immersed in the fungi. Or a combination of all.

The frank, un-idealized characterization of the leaders and their philosophies (not to mention the deepness and soundness of the quotes!), the perfectly logical intricacies and interconnections of the technological tree, the whole concept behind the world's setting... all made for a level of immersion that was, in my opinion, unprecedented and is still unparalleled.

alpha centauri was indeed fantastic. i could never get into the civ games because of all the silly abstraction involved: spearman stabs helicopter? genghis khan living for thousands of years? AC however was a very moving, immersive experience, mostly because it started with a fictional premise and developed it beautifully, rather than trying to some up all of human history in a game. some features i always wanted to see incorporated into the gal civ games, such as the landmarks like mount planet.

might reinstall it actually.

Im defiantly for the X-com.  I still dont understand why someone doesnt just take the basic game and revamp it for today.  You could have a turn based feature or real time.  Could even throw in multi player by having friends able to jump in as your soldiers or what not.  Re do the tech trees and make them more modern and then add in alien tech and more.  I think if anyone could do it, its Lord Frog and his army of super duper game makers!!

I think Birthright would be probably be very easy to do, since Elemental is pretty close to it, at least in feeling.

I really enjoyed Birthright and that game, and would love to see something based on it again.
