Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Other Games Stardock should re-make.

Games to be made.

I know there are lots of old school games out there, with more game-play than most of the new ones, they just need to be re-made right.

Here are some I can think of, off the top of my head:

WAR, INC.  (your a mercenary company.. includes stock investing, cloning troops, building an army that came with you from mission to mission, maybe the addition of a conquest map)

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/warinc/index.html

DOMINUS (just full of awesome features.. it is just a couple things short of being one of the most awesome strategy games ever)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/747/Dominus.html

CASTLES!  (an old castle building sim that took weeks of my life)

http://www.abandonia.com/en/games/402/Castles.html

BTW, I think most of these are abandonware.. soo you can download them free and play with dosbox.   just to get an idea of what they are. I still like them even with the dated graphics.

Anyone else have any great old games that need to be redone that I am missing?

Birthright : The Gorgon's Alliance. Was a cruelly overlooked gem of a game.

Oh, and the original Stronghold. Not the castle building sim of recent years, but the D&D kingdom management sim. That was fun.

Woah.... I mention Syndicate, and a day or two later there are mentions of a Syndicate remake!

http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/syndicate/1110413p1.html

Would reaaaallly hope that they kept it as a tactical combat game.  That was one of the sad things of Fallout 3, losing tactical combat.  Made me appreciate Fallout tactics that much more.

I was just talking with my friend about this game a couple days ago. How it was one of those rare games that combined campaign level warfare and politics with dungeon crawling. I also liked how they did the warfare, it felt like playing Stratego on the mini-battlefield. I still have the disk to it too! :D

Planescape: Torment

Seriously, I know it's a little off the beaten track but it's one of the most acclaimed yet undeplayed games ever made. Brad's a fan, and he's been talking about doing an RPG for years - even elemental is a move in this direction. It's a perfect fit.

The only worry would be the technical side. It would need to be graphically spectacular to justify a remake and that's not necessarrily stardock's forte. Also legal/licensing issues.

I have always, always wanted to write an incredibly dialogue-heavy RPG. I don't care if it's someone else's world and plot. Some people need to get together and make a Baldur's Gate II and Torment style RPG for the love of God.

I elect myself head writer.

Planescape: Torment doesn't need remaking, imho. It's perfectly playable as it is. What it would need, is a sequel :) I would love to see an Annah centered one, for instance (and I'm sure many would agree with me!)

Alpha Centauri, on the other hand, needs to be remade.

I'd just look up "Birthright Gorgon Alliance" on google, or check Wikipedia, it has plenty of info on it. The game is a classic, and one that I always wished was done again at some point. It sort of.. in a very abstract way reminded me of Sid Meier's Pirates, in terms of having mini-games in a campaign world (ie, the battle system like Stratego, the 3D dungeon crawling if you go on a quest, etc).

I was more referring to the stronghold, D&D kingdom management sim...  . I know the stronghold castle building sim.. but have not seen the other.

I'd like a version of galactic civ with hotseat play and tactical battles similar to master of orion II.

Also elemental needs hotseat play as well <_< >_>

One of the very first games I ever played on the first PC I bought back in the mid 80's (yes I'm old) was Starflight and later it's sequel Starflight 2. They were rpg's where you explored planets, interacted with alien species, fought battles in space and on the ground and just generally were great games.  I would looooove to see a remake with all the whizz bang computer power available now.  Stardock could pull it off I think.

Thumbing through some forums I have noticed there is a huge void in the Castle/kingdom building simulation department. Seems there are a lot of people not happy with Stronghold 1 and 2 being the only players in that field at the moment. I would like to see something new on the order of castle/fortress building and management.

There seems to be plenty of Shooters, war games, fast paced strategy games, space based turn based strategy games and a lot of RPGs. Also the MMORPG scene seems to be flooded with games.(Way too many Everquest/WOW clones)

I like to play games that are slightly outside of the box. I am not even that big on uber flashy graphics (They don't hurt) I prefer a game that makes me think, one that requires strategy and that has lots of re-playability.

Stardock

Taleworlds  (Mount and blade)

Illwinter  (Domionions)

Have some great games that I just keep going back to. Now If only I could get all three of them to sit down and make a game together....

So New question, If you could mix any two existing games together to make a better game.. what would they be?

...Colony Wars....

@VonVenture:

Have you tried UFO Extraterrestrials?  The modded game by Bman is incredible.   It is an excellent successor to X-COM.

You can buy the game by googling it.  The link to the mod site is http://www.ufo-scene.com

yeah, just like freespace 2. Colony Wars was impressive because of the branching story arc though.

Why do you call Elemental remake of Master of Magic, I had much fonder impression of MoM in all its aspects than anything I saw of Elemental.

The abysmal state of battle aspect is particularly troubling in terms of visuals, animations, and gameplay mechanic.

Why are you even on this forum?  I watch this forum religiously because everything I've seen of Elemental makes it seem like the perfect game for me.  I'm even skipping out on StarCraft II and Civilization V just to get it.

Although Stardock would never get the chance, I'd love to see them remake Star Wars Rebellion. Heck, they were half way there with Sins of a Solar Empire. (and before someone mentions Empire at War I should mention I believe that game went exactly the wrong direction; i'd say at least the graphics were better, but honestly they didn't improve nearly as much as they should have...)

Also: Risk and/or Axis and Allies. Just because I'd want to see what they do with it.

Similar thoughts here. I recently bought a new PC, with my first-ever GPU, as I knew those games were coming out. Then I began to understand how the whole concept of gaming license evolved and somehow the urge in me died (I'm not saying I'm not interested in Starcraft anymore... maybe later, I don't know. I'm only interested in the single player part, anyway). Also both games seem to be targeted to a younger audience, compared to the originals (or maybe it is just me getting older).

In the meantime I found about Elemental, and while I cannot say it seems "perfect" to me (I know too little of the mechanics yet) it does seem to have "the heart in the right place".

Release it already Stardock, so I will have something to play :)

Syndicate.

Those games are just *begging* for a modern remake.  [Without the persuadatron, though, which was just silly.]

Syndicate is being remade, as are a number of other games on this list. The thing is, a remake is seldom what fans want in the end. They want the feeling back they got when they played the original game years ago, and that's mostly never going to happen.

Oh, Dungeon keeper is being remade as well, as some Asian MMO actually, I'll see if I can dig out the articles at some point. Xcom is being remade as well in a few different versions, both the FPS version and there is a true spiritual successor in the make as well.

I had forgotten about Birthright - that was one awesome game for its time...really, really complex and something I fear never will be repeated due to the genre probably being dead.
