Starfist - The Stardock Forums Succession Fort

Starfist - The Stardock Forums Succession Fort

The title says it all.

We, here at the Stardock forums, will be playing at least 1 game, of succession Dwarf Fortress.

CURRENT TURN: Iteuniso

This list is currently a meager five people:

Bill_Door

Iteuniso

Myles

Pbhead

Myself/Orvidos

Anyone that has played Dwarf Fortress and would like to join, is absolutely welcome. (I only have 3 forts under my belt anyway, so I doubt we'll be using my saves much.)

We'll be using this seed for our first outing:

Typical succession rules, which are as follows:

Each person plays 1 year, 1 year only. When spring rolls around, they save it, zip it and send it on its way.

No intentional fortress disastering.

If someone utterly murders the fortress, the last playable save will be used.

No time limit on taking your turn, this time around.

Bill will be starting, whenever he damn well pleases (soon, I imagine, if Beta 2 isn't released today). We'll go from there.

Again, if you're interested, say so, we'll add you to the list.

Oh and Bill? I propose Starfisted for our fort name.

Let the fun begin!

Thanks, my friends :)

I got it all downloaded. I'll give it a go later this evening some time most likely. As for the Wiki, thanks Bill. I'll take a look at it too....after I try the game a few times on my own first. There hasn't been a game made I couldn't figure out on my own before needing to turn to a instruction manual or Wiki. If for some reason I can't figure it out though I'll have to go check the Wiki.

That's what I said . . . And I still needed to use the wiki to even figure out how to dig!

My favorite quote about DF: "I play Dwarf Fortress. Sometimes I wish I were a meth addict instead."

I'll shoot Iteu a PM to get him about.

I used the Complete and Utter Newby Tutorial from After Action Report. Pretty good. I'm going to load up your save to do two things though, Bill.

1. Learn the 2010 military interface (the AAR tutorial is on 40d)

2. Find out just how cracked my dorf is. And what you did to cause it. :P

I assigned you a battle axe, but still, you had to fill the combat report screen with "The Militia Commander Strangles the groundhog".

As to the 2010 Military, the interface takes quite some time to get used to, or so I hear, and watch out for all the bugs, like inorganic megabeasts being unkillable by normal means.  Same goes for healthcare.}:)

Oh, and ground needs to be muddy for underground farming, even on soil.;)

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

I assume I have to pierce this aquifer that you drowned yourself in, then?

Edits: Hmm, yeah, I am. Off to the wiki!

Alllllsoooo: Is there a combat type toggle you're missing somewhere? Or is my dorf just a sadist in becoming?

Well, there are equipment bugs, and I think he eventually picked one up, but never got to use it.  In mature forts I can generally get at least one full steel squad.  And don't forget an Arsenal Dwarf once you get 20+ pop.  Wrestling is no longer superpowered.

Oh, and military marksdwarves won't work.:-"

And I didn't drown myself in it, I died in a cave-in.:P

We have cave-ins on? Oh boy. . .

As for this godsdamned military menu, it confounds me at every turn. I followed the "tutorial" on the wiki, to make them attack, but in the schedule screen, I hit 'k' and nothing happens. I've obviously missed something somewhere, because I'm rather certain I'm not supposed to be in the scheduling screen for that.

Reading, godsdamned, comprehension fail.

The 's'quad menu is opened from the map, not the military logs. Woo!

The cave-ins were from trying to pierce the aquifer with channels, and failing.  I was trying to expose the water to the weather, so as to freeze it.

When you use [k]ill you have to select the creature you want to kill by selecting the tile it's on.  If you want to choose from a list, use [k]ill->[l]ist.

And you definately shouldn't be on the schedule screen, you should use the [s]quad screen.

Edit: BTW, if you want to see what a terrifying seaside fort can be like, check out this one.:(O

Iteu is going to be out of town for the weekend, so I'll leave the decision up to you Myles, since he didn't answer my reply PM.

You can either go ahead and take his spot, and he'll get the next available one when he returns, or we can all just play Beta 2 for the weekend and wait on Starfist.

FYI, I'm going to be gone from Thursday morning until Tuesday evening, so I have to have my next turn before Thursday or after Tuesday.

hehe! dwarf fortress! epic!

<3

herm... ima tempted to put myself down for something...

are there unicorns in that location you chose?

Nah, only the sea is Joyous Wilds, the land is Untamed Wilds.  All I saw were buzzards, horses, and groundhogs.  But the caverns should be Fun, when we reach them.  And kobolds on year one...

I'm pretty busy this weekend to do a decent write up. Better just to wait for Iteu.

Dodger roger.

Pbhead, we're starting out with a relatively safe area. (As much as that can be said for Dwarf Fortress.)

We don't want Skeletal Elk/Elephant/Jaguar death just yet. :P

You're welcome to claim a dwarf/a play spot, if you'd like.

We are using the new version right?

ya, sure , throw me up for a year.

just... i dont want to start my turn untill 31.07 comes out... cause i dont want dwarves to die of not being smart enough to eat durring my turn. :-)

just... please... make sure you use the in-game noting system to mark all levels (expecially red levers)

Yeah, DF 2010.

I've never had dwarves die because of the no eat/drink/sleep thing.  They just make stuff slower and lower qulality.

I did mark the one irrigation lever, that's the only one I made, but really do mark levers.  I don't want to accidently pull the fortress self-destruct lever when I try to raise a defensive drawbridge.

As we have several people on hiatus temporarily, and we're not time-limiting this (other than the year), your turn will come Wednesday at the earliest, Pbhead. Provided .07 has hit.

Has it not, I'll slot you in for the nearest available one after it does.

When's the next available slot?

When's the next available slot?

Iteu is away until Monday, when he should be getting his post up. So provided on two things:

1. Myles plays his turn Tuesday/Earlier

2. The release, or not, of 31.07

The next earliest turn is either Wednesday or Thursday. Again, dependent.

Shall I put you in after Pbhead?

i highly doupt my turn will come up before 31.07, soez, dont worry about it, lolz.

a turn a day... that requires some serious hardcore playing... and typing up... well, depending on your computers FPS, i guess... if you play at 200 fps... 1 year isnt very long at all. lol.

Yeah. That estimation is basically a 'best circumstances' guess.

I love this game, even though I'm still learning how to play it (only up to vid number 5 in the youtube tutorial but then I got bored and started learning things the hard fun way instead)

Anyway...could I claim a Dwarf? ^_^
