April 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament - Rules and Registration

April 2010 2v2 Demigod Community Tournament - Rules and Registration

DG Community - we are in the process of organizing a Demigod 2v2 tournament.  This tournament is open to all that would like to participate, but does require that you follow this thread for updates, etc, as the majority of the communications including brackets will be published here.

This thread will provide the latest tournament rules, 2 man teams that have registered, and individuals that are looking to be a part of a team but do not currently have a partner.  If you'd like to participate and don't have a team, indicate so here.  Then, make efforts either in this thread or via pm to form your own team. If you are unable to form a two man team, don't worry.  All of the individuals that have indicated that they'd like to participate and were not successful at forming a 2-man team will be randomly placed into teams on the cut off date.

REGISTRATION IS CLOSED

Tournament Rules:

  • You may only select characters as indicated in the grid below:

  • Each match in the tournament will be the best 2 out of 3 games
  • All matches will be played on cataract with default settings (the only exceptions being AI HP on Very High and AI Gold/XP on low)
  • After teams are formed, they will be randomly placed into a bracket to determine who will fight who.  Everything will be random initially in round 1.  In the following rounds, the winners from one game will play the winners from another based on location in the bracket starting from the top on to the bottom.
  • Each team will play 1 round on light side, then 1 round on dark side.  If there is a 3rd round, the team that had the fastest win in game 1 or 2 gets to pick the side they want to be on (keep in mind the following rule).
  • The team that is on the dark side must pick their characters and ready up first.  Then the light gets to pick and the dark side does not have a chance to adjust their characters.
  • To track your wins, you must do the following - post the replay at gamereplays.org.  If you have issues with gamereplays, upload the file to rapid share and provide us with a link.  Also, provide a link to the match in the pantheon and let me know if its a win or loss.  The winning team should do this for each and every match.
  • UberFix 1.02 must be used (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/374315) UberFix is a mod that simply fixes many of the bugs in Demigod.  Check the modding forum for everything that is fixed by UberFix 1.02.

How will we handle crashes:

If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match.  If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark).  If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win.  If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, a third party will review the replay of the match and render a decision.  Be aware that the 3rd party must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone.

How we will handle invalid game states:

The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match.  In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes.  If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and we will review.  If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team should be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts. Please be reasonable, though.  We all know that Demigod has its bugs and its still pretty easy to encounter an invalid game state even if no one has intentionally triggered it.  If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof.

Also be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any foul play.

Prizes:

Outside of prestige in our small community, there is also a cash prize thanks to community contributions.

Currently, the total amount pledged for this tournament is $199.95.  Of that $199.95, I have received $99.95.  If you would like to contribute to the pot, please pm me and I'll get you the needed info to send me a payment.  If individuals do not come through on their pledges, I will not be personally covering the difference.  My goal is to collect the pledged amount before the tournament starts and I will be providing updates as I receive the pledged money.

Please thank our contributors and consider contributing to the prize yourself.

I just wont to avoid that some team will get to round 2, because the opponent team didn't show up. That would be fu***** lame. Maybe we can set the deadline for the registration 2 days earlier?!?

Does anyone else think this is a big deal?  For instance, if we have an odd number of teams, 1 team will automatically get a bi-week (randomly assigned when i draw up the brackets).  Is it that big a deal if another team gets a pass because someone committed to play and then backs out.  Ideally, no one will back out, but we will see.  Anyway, anyone else want to me to put out another date before making brackets to give individual players a chance to back out?  I'm not going to move the registration cut off date up.  It will stay the same (4/14 11:59PM EST - I'll be lenient due to time zones).  But we could add a 2nd cut off date where you must confirm that you will play if you were a free agent.  Thoughts?

I managed to bring Orcun back to life, so him and I are partners now.  Magnus has been demoted to our alternate until we can find him a partner.

^You're just terrible, a terrible terrible person.

I would pair with omircon, but no idea how to reach him:( I think he's out of shape anyways:P

I'll join, can you add me to the individual pool, unless I can get one of my friends who haven't played since September to join too, lol.

I came back and quit the game again (imbalances, bugs), but seeing as at least the team combos are limited, I'll participate. Ill bring some honor into the tournament by being the only person not to spam blatantly lame and OP items cough* sigil cough*

Oh by the way, if you're part of GM and you don't make it to the finals then you're automatically kicked from the clan. Just to put it out there, so you know something else is at stake. :D

Unless they would happen to lose by disconnect of course.

Actually if anything, Ninki will be kicked, for refusing to play with magnus even tough he has plenty of time as long as the tournament is over by April 30th.

^I'm not free on the 22nd - 25th and May 1st. I'm also busy with stuff until the 19th and some meeting on the 20th. So if you can shove all the games on the 21st then I'm in.

Oh and these silly rules would have to go too, because I don't want to die from a stroke.

And pacov, I'm going to be subbing for all the GM games, just incase one member can't make it or their video card blows up or something. Probably won't happen but I gotta make sure my babies are all doing well.

Don't worry, I'll make sure to participate at most just once per round, to keep it fair of course.

some quick questions on rules:

1.  Prize money goes to winners only, or second and third place get a piece?

2.  We instituting a First Contact or 30 second Grace Period for game start?  I.E.  Monks stuck in citadel, extremely wrong favor choice, game takes forever to load, etc worth a restart?

3.  Who gets to select map side in game three and why?

4.  If a team wins the tournament and isn't already there should they automatically qualify for Tier 1?

5.  Can a team who loses to 1 player/1 AI make the argument for a rematch?  (I say no, but I thought we should put this one to bed before it happens)

6.  Can one player sub for 4 teams?  Seems a bit murky ;)

Also, imo - a randomly matched team doesn't show up or schedule for their first set of matches their opponents get a bye, just like if a premade team doesn't show up for their matches.

I think with a 100 dollar prize it should be a winner take all but if more money becomes involved than the runner ups should get a piece.

2.  We instituting a First Contact or 30 second Grace Period for game start?  I.E.  Monks stuck in citadel, extremely wrong favor choice, game takes forever to load, etc worth a restart?

I don't agree with a 30s grace period for restarts, if you can't micro your monks your a noob.

3.  Who gets to select map side in game three and why?

Does it really matter what side your on?

4.  If a team wins the tournament and isn't already there should they automatically qualify for Tier 1?

Yes they should be immidiatly tier 1

5.  Can a team who loses to 1 player/1 AI make the argument for a rematch?  (I say no, but I thought we should put this one to bed before it happens)

I think if a team loses a player a rematch should be played unless the game was clearly onesided.

I don't agree with GM's tag team approach to this tourament. Make a two man team or don't play at all just like everyone else.

Also, imo - a randomly matched team doesn't show up or schedule for their first set of matches their opponents get a bye, just like if a premade team doesn't show up for their matches.

I have a bit of a problem with GM tag team. For one thing, it makes the (incorrect) assumption that a GM team will not play against eachother until the end. With the 4 different GM teams taking roughly half of the submitted teams AND the fact that the brackets are being randomly generated means that the very first bracket 2 GM teams may be playing against eachother. How does subbing work then?

It seems like we have a really bad "foot in door" situation at hand here where we let one team get one substitute because of scheduling issues and all of a sudden magic happens and Ninki is bitching about demigod selection and is also subbing. I have an issue with that. The fact that one player made a special request to have a substitute and was accepted is one thing. It's quite another to have a global substitute for possibly conflicting teams. If Ninki wants to go into the individual pool and be randomly assigned to another player, that is an option.

I still am going to bitch and moan about a first contact rule. Wrong favor, click the wrong items, get a monk stuck or lag comes up suddenly (this is Demigod, remember?). Making it to that the second you see an enemy creepwave, an enemy demigod, or a flag is captured or more than 15 in-game second count, grace is canceled (this is to prevent moan-bitching because maybe one player starts with an early teleport and the other team wasn't prepared). I mean, I'm making the assumption here that no one is going to abuse this rule. It's not an unsound one to have.

First of all who are the 4 teams?  I count 2 currently on the board and a 3rd one was just made recently, Ninki paired up Janook and magnus (before even talking to them I believe lol).  And secondly this isn't basketball, subbing in a fresh player gives you no advantage what so ever. It would actually be a disadvantage if Ninki were to randomly sub in as he wouldn't have any practice with his partner beforehand, other then the games we've played together in the past which basically none have been 2 vs 2.  We're not going to be subbing him in just for fun so that we can all play, he's not really involved at all, he's there just in case some crazy unforeseen circumstance comes up and one of the members from the dedicated team can't play.

Glad to hear you're volunteering yourself if I'm unable to play a round due to some crazy unforeseen circumstance.

Hope you play Sedna well.
