A WC Community Project visiting the stars (cancelled)

A WC Community Project visiting the stars (cancelled)

Lets use the engine of DeskScapes to take us all on our next Community Project, a thrill ride past the planets and out to visit the stars.  Using the random changer that comes with DeskScapes we can cycle through dreams of the planets and between each slip into warp drive.  Once we see the planets and leave out galaxy we may even find a Worm Hole to take us to, who knows where.  What would be nice with this theme the user will be able to set their own adventure.

Usually a Community Project is about creating new skins for a new theme but lets change things up.  Several skinners have all ready done dreams of the planets which can be used. The same with simulating the speed of warp,  Could warp drive be used traveling to the planets?

This also applies to the WindowBlinds as well as other skins, if you are a skinner and have made a previous skin that could be used that would be fine.  You may want to update the WB for Win 7. There are several Star Trek, or similar WBs themes that could be used.

The one thing that would need to be made is a DesktopX Object that would simulate a viewing screen or an observation deck, or both, on a space ship that essentially would be a border for the desktop allowing for the dreams to be seen. If even possible it should be made so it can be used with any resolution.

Now if the thought is that we should go with new skins that's okay.  Since this project won't be tied to a speific date we have the luxury of time on our side.  This would also be a good time to try out new ideas for animation in skins.  Another consideration would be size of the themed skins,
don't want them too big.

So first off we need to hear some thoughts and which way to go with the theme..

If this works maybe we can take folks on a Car Ride, Train Ride or how about a Roller Coaster Ride. :O

Which skins should we include? One WindowBlind for sure and how about atleast one for each skin listed below (more than one would be okay), other then the Dreams for which we will need many.

As you folks work through how the dreams will be working with the DX Object overlay, keep in mind what Jim is showing is to represnt an observation deck on the star ship.    If you are thinking of makeing an overlay that might represnt tactical displays that would also be cool.

They may have to be repositioned once, by the end user. From then on, they will stay where they're put.

I change monitors and resolutions at least once a day...going from 1920 pc monitor to 1360 tv...heheheheh...

thats why I say some auto centering mode would work best...obviously any controls are objects on top of the DX back...if it resizes, the controls would appear to change sizes in relationship to the back,...if it centers(cropping or uncropping the back),the controls would appear to be the correct size.

As I understand it...keeping the controls correctly lined up at different rezzes is the hard part.Maybe if the positioning is figured by the max rez size rather than current screen size?...is that even possible?

Like an Ignore screen rez setting?

All that is negated if I use docks for the controls, which I am leaning towards.

Visiting the stars? No problem...

But that would mess with the other DX parts, wouldn't it?

A hybrid dream can auto center as well. Since the DX would be placed on top of the dream, we should be able to have every thing line up together. Keep in mind, I haven't the DX knowledge that you have so once I get something together, you'll need to verify that it works as I think it should.

I'm thinking, If you use the wall object in your dream, I should omit it from the DX theme. It would be unecessary and serve only to complicate things.

Well....maybe not. Some people who don't have Deskscapes, or can't use it ( I know a few who can't get it to run...) Would still want the DX theme with the background object, they could run a space wallpaper behind it and still get a decent effect.

Actually, a set of space walls set to desktop slideshow would look nice too.

Keep the ideas coming I.R and RedneckDude.

I think RedneckDude is correct, using the DX Object in the Dream will work for all new Dreams.  I would also keep it available as a DX Ojbect for those folks that don't or can't run Dreams, or want to run the other Dreams.

OK, John...not many takers...

I'll take the rainy, the docks, the gadgets, what gadgets?

Well i think folks just haven't come across this thread is what it is Jim. :sun:

You may have to verify this Jim but I think a Gadget is a DX Widget that doesn't need DX loaded to run.

John...verify this! (insert mooning digicon here)

Just kidding...I know what a Gadget is...duh. I meant what do we need for gadgets?

The DX theme will have widgets, you want them all duplicated as gadgets?

The clock and weater as Windows sidebar gadgets would be nice for those who don't DX.

I have made a digital clock that I will gadgetize. And weather. Can do the calendar and media player too...

I really like what I'm seeing here, this is going to be really cool if You guys pull this off! .......just a thought, Jim, what do You think about the Main DX panel being like a control console, and all the other elements, meters, music player etc... when accessed from there, if they could be displayed over the various portholes like a heads up display...... ;)

That just happens to be exactly what I've done!  GMTA!!!    Only catch, the various "heads up displays" will have to be adjusted positionally (how's that for redneck speak) to fit different resolutions. I have made all items fit into a 1024x768 res. or higher.

BTW, anyone who is part of this project wanting a working copy of the DX theme, just shoot an email or PM me.

CarGuy...did you get what I sent?

Fred, what do you mean by "IF you guys pull this off"? From where I stand, it has been pulled off.  lol

Can it be screwed back on?

Whoops...thought it was the "Question With A Question Game". ;)
