A WC Community Project visiting the stars (cancelled)

A WC Community Project visiting the stars (cancelled)

Lets use the engine of DeskScapes to take us all on our next Community Project, a thrill ride past the planets and out to visit the stars.  Using the random changer that comes with DeskScapes we can cycle through dreams of the planets and between each slip into warp drive.  Once we see the planets and leave out galaxy we may even find a Worm Hole to take us to, who knows where.  What would be nice with this theme the user will be able to set their own adventure.

Usually a Community Project is about creating new skins for a new theme but lets change things up.  Several skinners have all ready done dreams of the planets which can be used. The same with simulating the speed of warp,  Could warp drive be used traveling to the planets?

This also applies to the WindowBlinds as well as other skins, if you are a skinner and have made a previous skin that could be used that would be fine.  You may want to update the WB for Win 7. There are several Star Trek, or similar WBs themes that could be used.

The one thing that would need to be made is a DesktopX Object that would simulate a viewing screen or an observation deck, or both, on a space ship that essentially would be a border for the desktop allowing for the dreams to be seen. If even possible it should be made so it can be used with any resolution.

Now if the thought is that we should go with new skins that's okay.  Since this project won't be tied to a speific date we have the luxury of time on our side.  This would also be a good time to try out new ideas for animation in skins.  Another consideration would be size of the themed skins,
don't want them too big.

So first off we need to hear some thoughts and which way to go with the theme..

If this works maybe we can take folks on a Car Ride, Train Ride or how about a Roller Coaster Ride. :O

Which skins should we include? One WindowBlind for sure and how about atleast one for each skin listed below (more than one would be okay), other then the Dreams for which we will need many.

UPDATE: I just finished going through the Dreams library, found 71 different Dreams that could be used.  This is not goint to be easy.

Yes.....DX Observation Deck? (That is the Asteroids dream running behind it.)

Would that be resolution specific or can it adapt to any rez?

I have it set so that it should adapt to any res. Wanna test?

I am waiting to find a self centering script. I had one David Roman made for the WC Community Wall Gadget I did, but I saved it as a gadget and can't access the script.

CG, it will resize per resolution, but zooming isn't gonna happen. The general placement of the windows will be the same vicinity, only scaled per res.

Now I see what you're talking about Jim and it looks pretty cool.

I agree,pretty amazing stuff!

...and I get it first,lol.:P

I have tested it on 1360x768 and 1024x768 so far. I haven't tested it on a huge res. It should resize and center when I'm done. It is originally 1920 x 1200.

You will be able to run fences in the winders. You will need a solid taskbar, else the dream will show through it.

Philly,

If you want to use some of the old dreams of mine for this, I'm fine with it but I'm planning on creating a new one for the project.

I'm going to work on a draft this weekend and I'll post a screenshot of what I come up with. I'm thinking a few planets that would work with Jim's DX and also well on it's own. A planet with rings would be cool also.

^ I can think of one planet you shouldn't pick...

CarGuy!, the more Dreams the better.

At some time thought the Dreams to be used with the theme will have to be either identified/nomintated/picked whatever we want to call it.  That for me will be the important process for the theme.  Whether we use Dreams that are all ready done (which will help greatly) new Dreams or a combination of both is up to the follks that volunteer for the project.  I just hope we get some Dreams that simulate going at warp speed, or I wonder if there are one or two that the person can download them several times just changing the name.  Would that work?

I like how this is shaping up by the way, we just need to find a volunteer for the WB, hmmmm. :-"

Just FYI, I'm finding that the Aero Metals, Dark Brushed blind is working great for me. Looks good with the DX I'm doing.

Updated shot. Seems the first had a seam issue...

Nope. A wall would, but not an object. It's either solid taskbar, or hidden taskbar.   :|

I've wanted to make something like that for a long time...one in space and one in a submarine.

For me,I think it would be best if it auto centered per rez...that way there would be no loss of detail at lower rezzes and the viewports would just get closer and bigger.

That would mean no working controls could be around the edges of the higher rezzes tho. (they would get lost on low rezzes) :cylon:

Course,you could always make ... several... ^_^

Any of my Dreams use away, busy at present in my real life building and bringing lives into the world as it is spring so a new dream spaced out probably not possible. Be cool to switch between dreams at varying speeds and distance away from various bodies..

It will auto center per rez. And there will be controls, on docks. So they're independent of the wall object. The wall object will ignore the mouse, so it will stay at desktop level, while other things stay on top, as well as keeping the ability to right click the desktop to configure dreams, line up fences in the viewports, etc.

My current deal has 5 buttons in the center of the wall object. I'm having a bit of trouble with those, but I will get it. They may have to be repositioned once, by the end user. From then on, they will stay where they're put.

Not a wallpaper, an object. It is intended to be run with a dream, so no wallpaper.

It would also be cool to take the PSD for Jim's DX and use it as the foreground of the dream.

I could make a Hybrid dream in which the view ports could / would switch from one dream to another.

You could have something like a dream running on all 3 ports and then the right port switchs to a tactical view while the left zooms in.

Wow!!  Let's do that!!

Problem is, I accidentally merged some of the PSD parts.  But I can send what I have....

But that would mess with the other DX parts, wouldn't it?

I change monitors and resolutions at least once a day...going from 1920 pc monitor to 1360 tv...heheheheh...

thats why I say some auto centering mode would work best...obviously any controls are objects on top of the DX back...if it resizes, the controls would appear to change sizes in relationship to the back,...if it centers(cropping or uncropping the back),the controls would appear to be the correct size.

As I understand it...keeping the controls correctly lined up at different rezzes is the hard part.Maybe if the positioning is figured by the max rez size rather than current screen size?...is that even possible?

Like an Ignore screen rez setting?
