eh? Pay for Object Dock 2.0 Beta? Without even a new Feature list?

eh? Pay for Object Dock 2.0 Beta? Without even a new Feature list?

Ok, so being an old time object dock user, I got the pre-order email to get into the beta. And while $10 - $20 dollars isn't the end of the world,I think it is kinda lame to charge to help you test out and fix your software. Not only do you want us to lay out money to help you fix bugs, but you didn't even give us a feature list of the upcoming ObjectDock Plus 2.0.

Am I missing something here or is this just poor marketing.  Don't get me wrong. I love object dock plus, but not enough to pay for something that I have no idea what I'm paying for..

Stardock, you might want to rethink this...

I purchased Object Dock Plus a couple years ago. I received no email offer and can"t find anything about a beta in the store for $10.00. How do I sign up?

I don't have it installed on this computer since I installed win 7. Reason is i was waiting for the new version. Now that it will be available soon I would like to sign up for it when it's released.

Well, my ignorance is showing. Sorry, Dave and Burnt, I didn't know about that one.

No problem, been there done that, don'tcha hate it when that happens;P Built-in hazard of trying to post actual factual information.  You can bet your subscription fee that I went to the webpage to double-check before I posted that \o/

I have no problem with pre-ordering.  Beta or whatever...  I like the applet and I ordered it.

Note this:

You will be notified via email when the product(s) are available and have been processed. At that time, your credit card will be charged.

They debited my account and I never saw anything about the product being available...

Nice.

Summed up nicely in Macbeth's Soliloquy and the title of another play, "Much Ado About Nothing".

It's not paying to participate in the beta. It's preordering OD2.0 for a discount - and it allows you to be part of it's beta.

There's a good chance the charge hodginsr is seeing is just the pre-autorization (ie. just a temporary hold that will clear in a few days). If it still appears in his statement after a few days, he should contact support and have things sorted out because my card hasn't been charged (and I guess this is the case for the majority of people, otherwise you'll see a lot more complaining - if that's even possible at this point...)

No offense here guys, and this is just my opinion of course.....  Stardock is a company, and the object is to make money.  Personally I don't mind paying them some money for a new number upgrade (1.XX to 2.0).  However, if you don't want to pay the $10....  Don't.  But don't sit around on the forum whining about it.  It's $10 for pete's sake.  It's not like they are trying to make everyone purchase a a new license at full price.  :annoyed:

ObjectDock 2.0 will work/be supported on 64 bit operating systems
I've been a supporter of ObjectDock through all of the critical posts thus far, but this wording concerns me.

Will OD 2.0 simply work on 64-bit OS's like 1.9 does now, or will it be fully functional on 64-bit OS's to include currently inactive features like start menu and system tray?

It will be fully functional in 64 bit environments excluding XP 64.

Uh...not sure if anyone asked this but...will XP be supported? I mean since XP seems to be the bastard stepchild now! XD

Not to burst anyone's bubble here, but I think my understanding of this is correct: there is no discount for pre-ordering OD 2.0. If you already own OD 1.x, you can upgrade to 2.0 at a discount (and, as was pointed out earlier, there's a 25% discount for ODNT subscribers on new purchases), but if this is your first purchase of a "plus" version of OD, you'll be paying $19.95.

Can't you read or think? On ObjectDock 2.0 specification you have write:

System Requirements
Minimum:
Windows 7/Vista/XP(32-bit)

that mean: Windows 7 32-bit, Windows 7 64-bit, Windows Vista 32-bit, Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows Xp 32-bit

No words ring louder than that of truth.  This has to be the first time I've ever seen a Beta of anything for sale.  As previously stated, the point of releasing a Beta is to determine errors in a program so they may be corrected before the Final version is released to the general public.  It's disconcerting that I just bought OD+ earlier this week and can't get half of my shortcuts to work properly, when 2.0 is just around the corner...  Shouldn't the issues at hand be dealt with before moving on to a new version with more features?  Please keep things in perspective and start with a strong foundation before trying to build on top of it.  You wouldn't build a 30 story, 5* hotel on beach-front property without constructing proper supports for it would you?  So why move on to v2.0 if the previous isn't complete?  Even better, why pay for OD+ 2.0 Beta when OD+ 1.9 still has unresolved issues?  That's like paying for an Unknown Driver for a game controller that didn't work right to begin with.  Which begs the question...  "Do I need to get a refund?[cause I know what I bought & what I got are two different things(Bought-Fully functional program, Got-Headache & no resolution in sight)]"

kdk, have you modified your dock or are you using it as it is when you open the app? unless you have the apps installed that the dock has shorcuts to, you won't open anything.

Even better, why pay for OD+ 2.0 Beta when OD+ 1.9 still has unresolved issues?

I'd said it in another way: Why Stardock is asking for money unless the actual version is still a beta and is still buggy ?
