Show off your Sins model (pick a page)

Think of this thread as something similar to conceptships.blogspot.com for the Sins community. Basically, a way for the community to share what they have created whether it makes it into a mod or not.

At a minimum post a screen shot of your model in blender, xsi, 3d object converter, etc or in game. If you have a name for your ship or story behind it, even better.

We are looking forward to seeing what you have created! :)

Visit http://soase.weebly.com/modeling.html (thanks myfist0)
The soase.weebly is a compilation of many of the hard to find topics created by many experienced soase modders and extensively added to by myfist0. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

From the beginning of this thread IskatuMesk has wow'd us with his models and ultimately released a video of his creations in Sins of a Solar Empire. This particular model was my favorite in the beginning and still stands out.

SivCorp looking to stretch new ideas from existing models managed to create several menancing models including the fantastic Vasari version seen here: (Vasari Flagship Sonar Kal'd used in the Distant Stars Mod)

It's my thread so a few of my stuff...

@IskatuMesk I know you feel that the second to last ship is not quite where you want it to be, but it looks pretty damn sweet to me. And even if it doesn't come out at the poly count that you expect, that doesn't matter. I think it's nice. And the shadowy one is cool too. Just like the one before it more.

@Shmily: Would love to toss out names. Can't model, so that's all I have to offer.

@ManShooter: I likey. Even a fairly simple design done right kicks ass and chews bubble gum. Just aim the business end away from living things.

Here's an experimental voice set for the Blood Frenzy. I haven't done Undead voices in years, so it's going to take practice to get back into the editing. Also, I need to set up my pop screen for this particular mic I used.

Would love to, but lemme see models first. They tend to be inspiring, as was the case with the Nerf model.

ks will do post them when i get home :)

I started work on the Sorrowsong, which would be considered a tier 1 Undead capital ship (with higher tiers needing major research e.g. the Crusader/Zeral'Motakk). Primary weapon is the three beam cannons in the front. Every thorn is a point defense weapon of some nature.

It's about 4k tris atm. Still smoothing it out and detailing.

Zombie, have you thought of retexturing those insets where the yellow/black hashing runs the length of that jutting piece on the port side? Maybe something like the windowed sections on the main body? You know, just to break it up a bit.

Yes, I have. I'm still really new to texturing, only started last year. I've been researching how to add more beveled looks as well as how to effectively add windowed sections. I'm in the process off building some window textures, it just takes me time as I have no artistic or design background... :(

Speaking of which, do you have any particular place you like to go to grab plating textures and the such? Building those things from scratch kinda blows.

Btw, I know the feeling. I have artistic background in 2-D, but don't do 3-D.

Oh ya, I have some spots I find various hull textures. I couldn't create detailed ones by hand myself. The beveled looks is more about creating recessed areas to add windowed sections or other general areas to existing textures. I've found I can do some nice stuff manually in gimp to facilitate this (dodge/burn or using layers to affect the texture). I'm slowly moving beyond basic...

*Sigh* I wish I had a 2-D background. I did take one art class in college to fulfull a requirement. All math and comp sci after that and a long time ago too O:)

I went to school for 3-d, but didn't really get past 2-d before I figured out I didn't want to do it all the time. So, yeah... But hey, I would love to know a few of those sources in case I come to need em.

Personally I find it ridiculous for spaceships, especially ships of war, to have visible windows on them. What would be the point in having armor at all, then?

@ IskatuMesk No argument with that. Just thought something should be there to break it up visually.

@Zombie It's simple, but if that's the style of the race and it's an early level vessel, it works.

the insect looking model should be a a early flood infector unit... but I'm leaving that for CanadaMan as I only did the model per his specs.

Sorrowsong + Blood Frenzy escorts

The smoothing is giving me a lot of trouble on this ship. It's still low poly, though, so I can afford to smooth it out much more aggressively.

when it's an icon you won't notice, hehe. But seriously, it's a good suggestion. I might try something in addition to the yellow stripe. It looked worse without it though.

here they are

first one is pirate modified this one

second is tec modified this one

third and fourth are advent made this one

the authors of the models i am using did give permission on the download page i modified them alot so the are different

I see only three, not four. Go ahead and give me the general function of the TEC and Advent so I can think of something suitable. I only titled the nerf model knowing it was just that and cause I figured a large gun would probably be something siege-ish.

Guys, when showing your models, it really pays off to turn on the wireframe. Otherwise a lot of the geometry detail cannot be seen.

Current version of the Sorrowsong. Mostly minor updates now, you may or may not be able to notice them. You can see there is still some smoothing issues I don't know how to fix.

@ manshooter k will do that next time

@DraaakJackt the tec one is a missile capital with railguns, flax, adaptive forcefields, and missile swarm it has more health etc than other tec ships alos

tha advent one is a heavy carrier with energy cooldown, the extra fighter ability and 2 more that i dont remember.

also the fourth model already had a name :)

Hey guys, first I want to say that you all are very talented on what you can do and I wish I had a fraction of the skills that you show on this thread. Came across this site where all the images on done on a computer, some in excess of 30 million polys, triangles? Don't know the jargon. Anyway, I thought you all can appreciate this since you are all artist. Here is the link to the site.

the took alot of time on those all i can say.......
