Ok time for me to clear some stuff up
1, the unicomplex IS balanced for the most part
2, YOU are ALL playing the vs borg game wrong remeber what i have been saying 1v1 YOU WILL NEVER WIN, 2v1 YOU MIGHT WIN 3v1 is the way to go or more
3, FOR the love of god WHY on earth are you having TEAMS, TEAMS OF BORG ? are you insane ????????? it takes 3 TEAMED players or factions set to unfair to take out 1 borg player, i mean seriously if you people keep playing like this you are going to lose big style when the faction is done as if you think they are OP (stations) now wait untill it is all done
4, The other borg ships are going to get a slight price nerf and a slight buff to hull regeneration + Hp
I cant make the games today or yesterday or whenever it was however i can play with you guys next weekend if you have a game going and show you how i can kick all your asses in a 8v1 !
* 1 BORG PLAYER PER GAME IF YOU WANT TO WIN LOL as even then you have to team up against the poor person playing them !*
The borg music comes from various star trek games + some episodes from the TV series for the most part
just_jim, it sounds like you should make a movie of that and post it here/youtube like Major Stress suggested.
I thought about that myself, so I'm going to try later today. But as stupid as this sounds, I'm not sure how... just aim the video camera at the TV/Moniter screen?
The big problem, and this addresses what Loki just said about the Unicomplex, is I haven't been able to recreate the scenario. I started another game last night, exact same settings of 3 vs 1... but this time they came me only 1 race at a time and got wasted.
Loki is right, you have to co-ordinate your attacks really carefully... and make sure you have lots of backup so you can keep hammering at them. It might take forever, but if you can take down that uni-complex there's a good chance they're not going to be able to afford to build another for quite a while. This is where the Borg are vulnerable... it is VERY expensive to research and build if you're the Borg. Best advise is before you attack a planet look for any asteroid fields or Gas Giants where the Borg may be exploiting asteroids... take these first... raid any trading routes you find.. cut off their supplies and you'll hamstring them.
I don't know why everyone is complaining... the Borg are supposed to be nearly unstoppable... that's part of their charm...lol. Truth is I'm one of the folk bitching that SINS was getting too easy and wanted harder setings... I want an opponent that's impossible to beat... The only problem I have is getting the stupid AI to co-ordinate an attack.
to be honest when i played with the dominion against the 3 allied unfair borg ais i never had trouble defending against them even if they would jump together in my systems with 2 tactical cubes +fleet i only lost ~10 beam defences (i buffed their dps from ~20 to ~110 to keep them in line with other races). (they always attacked a astoroid, i had 2hangars for shields, 1 starbase (max weapons max hp/hull) the rest beam platforms, no ships were involved in defending)
with my fleet of 16 lvl 8+ enslavers i could crush every borg fleet before me without much trouble even multiple borg fleets at once
the only problem i had was with this one fully upgraded unicomplex (i won the game, since i saved before i jumped in i just wanted to see if i could destroy it)
the reason why i set up allied 3 borg was that they tended to become eliminated very early in the game by other ai (i once had a game with 4 hard ai (none allied) and two allied unfair borg and borg were the first to get eliminated)
this mainly happens because it takes even unfair borg players a lot of time to upgrade to unicomplex and cubes. basicly their fleets don't gain much in midgame as other races
i just want to give feedback on how the ais are doing out, take from what you like (i also play mostly single player so i do not even think on commenting on multiplayer balance)
Hello Everyone,
The main topic now seems to be about the AI. So lets just dispell some theories on the AI. Since the latest patch. The AI has improved five fold. The AI still seems to have issues with the CAPITAL ships being locked up in research. That is why the ai will turtle on people till its ready to attack. The fleet balancing has improved as well. As many of the team members have already said before, We didnt build the game engine, just the mod !! Work has already begun on a port to diplomacy. Which has a much better AI
. Untill the port is finished we will continue work on Soa2 0.4.E.1. I am planning on releasing a patch for 0.4e.1 soon to address a few issues and add some new content. Aswell as fix the installer. As for recording videos of ingame dog fights or whatever , there are several free applications out there to do this with FRAPS being one of them. Now that we all know this MAKE US SOME VIDEOS!!!!
After all who wouldnt want there videos or screenshots used in this AWESOME MOD .
thanks jtaylorpcs
ps. For those of you using the debug site , Thanks for those who arent shame on you (\B):vulcan:(\B)
FRAPS isn't freeware anymore. There is a free trial version of it but it only allows you to record for thirty seconds.
Then you could buy it, or if you know someone that has the program, ask them to send you it by share file.

I made this from a small fight my Tactica Cube had last night. I used a worm hole to get deep into Dominion territory and take over a planet. They massed a small fleet and tried to take out my cube... I think they should have brought more ships with them.
No audio, Fraps hates the audio on my computer, the audio sounded over modulated, so I took it out.
It's not much, but there ya have it.
Well I'm afraid the Fraps file is simply far too large to upload, as it was it split my movie into two separate files, which I can't seem to get a program to work in merging, so here's my beauty videos for now- these truly show the power of both the Borg and the Klingons. Feel free to let me know what you think- I'd suggest watching them in order, as they really should just be one video.

Don't misunderstand, for the most part the new AI is awesome... Playing against it is lots more fun, it's done a few tricks that made me smile.
My only complaint is playing with AI allies. It can be frustrating when you're trying to coordinate a 3 pronged attack. Doing it with 2 other humans in a multi-player game is fine, you can time everything with your allies to the second. But with the AI you have to hope it's going to attack when you want it to. Sometimes it can leave you hanging.
As for videos I don't have Frap. but I may be able to do Something else. I'm gonna go try it in a few minutes...If it works I have a game saved about 30 seconds before a massive Fed fleet jumps into my Volcanic planet... with a fully upgraded Unicomplex...
It's sad... sort of ends up like Wolf 359... I didn't have to do a thing but sit back and watch... then I laughed and quit the game without saving it so I can fire it back up again before the battle and try to video it...
I wish I could join that, but an 8v1 would make my satellite internet bleed...
But with the AI you have to hope it's going to attack when you want it to. Sometimes it can leave you hanging.
If you select an Ai unit or a world, on the bottom right there are several commands you can send them including attack. In my experience, when I tell them to attack they immediately send everything they've got to that location. I use the AI to control stars and such in that case, and strategically have them take over systems that way.
I see the forum is acting up again. Wonder how long it will take for it to break again.
Progress on the 0.5 series foundations:
Started implementing 1/2 scale on all mod units. Tremendous improvement in performance of the 1/2 scale ships. They leave the grav well less frequently, and all but eliminated the bumper car syndrome in the smaller units. Bigger units might still collide. I havent got to them yet.
I Started looking over all of the meshes, and i noticed a LOT of disturbing bonehead mistakes made with the mesh nulls. Which i am fixing as i progress with the new foundations, but the SoA 2 team needs to check them out as well, and fix as necessary for any future 0.4 series updates. Pretty much every ship i checked so far had an error in some shape, or form. Nulls that are miss-spelled, miss-placed, miss-aligned, pointing left when they should be pointing right. Example the Miranda, and Constitution both had its port side phasers facing starboard, and starboard phasers facing to port. Some ships also have too many redundant, and unused nulls. Like weapon-2 nulls when the ship doesnt use a weapon-2 in its entity. Why did the Miranda have 8 ability-1 nulls? We wonder why we got dev exe errors, and ships doing very stupid things.. well... here is your answer. I am not blaming the current team for this. You didnt make the nulls for the ships, and i did not make them ether. Regardless of whos fault it is this needs to be fixed asap. The ships that i fixed so far perform flawlessly. I wish i would have seen this sooner. Many issues could have been avoided.
The Borg so far are playing as intended. They may seem OP to you, but that is the whole point. They ARE OP. However they are not undefeatable. It is supposed to take a fleet (or several fleets) to defeat a standard Borg cube or complex. You forget at wolf 359 1 scout cube destroyed 47 federation starships easily. They arent that OP in the mod, but it will still take a force to defeat a cube. We didnt intend for anyone to play against multiple borg opponents. That is plain suicide. We intended for a group (preferably one of each of the four factions) to play against one borg opponent, and against each other.
love your work. just had a game. Just to see alll the lovely models.
HAve to say I miss the diplomacy in the later addon. Hope that version comes soon. Diplomacy even though it adds seemingly little adds a whole lot to the way allies play together. Fills a void.
I had a long game last night Borg (me) vs the Federation, and I must say the AI with the patch are playing differently. Last night I played on Twin Empires, a map I play a lot. The AI beat me to a certain choke point I felt I had to have, and by the time I got there, they had already put up a base, and fortified it. I managed to put up a Uni to hold them off for a while, but while I waited for the tritanium and dilithium to come in, I could see that they were massing their entire fleet in that same grav well, essentially I was trapped. Maybe 45 tense minuetes later, I put out my first tac cube and sent an assimilated scout into the well, and seen maybe 40 ships, including several cap ships. I waited until I cranked out my second one, and tried jumping them in... and escaped with my life, so i retreated back to my level 5 Uni to lick my wounds. It wasn't until I had 5 tac cubes was I able to punch through, sad thing is that after that, I was able to methodically reclaim the whole map with little resistance. I can fraps it when I get home... but I was pretty nervous I would lose my cubes when I jumped in. Playing against only AI, I had never seen an asteroid defended quite like that, I wish I knew how many ships there really were in there. The AI were putting out broadcast centers early game, which I had never seen before, and when they ambushed one of my level 4 Uni's and leveled it mid game, i really didn't anticipate it.
I notice you included my map (fortune favours the bold) in the latest release.
Has anyone tried the map online? how's the balancing?
Loving the mod, the borg are intense!!!
The map's good (it's the one my videos are from), though the AI seems to have some problems with the pathfinding on it (but tbh that's the AI for you).
hey there guys...
thanks for this wonderful mod and all the sweat u put into it ![]()
just one simple question:
the weapon and unitorder sounds are like all mono and played on left channel. is this as it is supposed to be? or am i the only one having this? just because the ambience sounds like engine or warp sounds play on both channels ![]()
keep up that good work...cheers
They will play on the left channel if they are stereo. My mono sounds correct that problem, but I don't know if they put them in the mod.
will be included with the next update thanks again
I'm curious if there is anything in the works for the Romulin and Dominion star bases yet?? I really hate that Vasari base... I'd rather see them with the TEC one myself if I had to choose one.
We got guys working on the Dominion SB as far as i know. I plan on meshing the Romulan starbase myself once i am finished with the new foundations.
Another foundation update... Attempts to fix the existing mesh errors all ended in failure. XSI and Sins doesnt like texture boundrys period. The 3rd party models werent built for the Sins engine, and i expected some problems when i imported them. However, this means if we want to fix the nasty texture seems and lines that show on the meshes they will all have to be re-built from scratch, or at the very least re-textured, and uv-mapped a certain way. Which is ok, because we planned on replacing all of the 3rd party work in time anyway.
My favorete map to use for the mod is Systems of War. All of the factions seem to have little issue with that map, and it makes for some epic siege battles.
We are aware of the sound issues, and have fixed some already, but we still need to double check, and fix some more. Next update they should all be fixed.
To answer an earlier post about the music (thank you BTW for the comment). I chose mostly the TMP soundtrack for the feds, because its mood seemed fitting for this mod. Other music came from SFC 1, First contact, wrath of khan, Trek XI (belive it or not). The opening theme is from Dawn of War, and no i am not gonna change it. It fits the mood we want to generate for the mod. Since when do you see federation types singing happily that they are going to war? If people want the diabeties inducing sugar coated "happy" trek themes, they can always add them themselves.
Has anyone tried the map online? how's the balancing?

LOVE the map, I just wish I had the option to start somewhere besides Earth.
Thanks!
Yes the dominion starbase had been started ![]()

So you're the wunderkid who made that map? Have to say, I love the references. Only gripe is that it's hard to pick a capital planet that's close enough to everything else to avoid a huge loss due to allegiance. Would be a great map if you could halve the allegiance penelty, but, eh, hardcode limits, right?
The only thing I think needs improving on that whole map? the last player gets hosed by a bad placing, and some team suggestions could help (e.g., Earth/Kronos/Romulus are natural allies, same with other groups of 3). This isn't to complain; it fits with trek great and it's fun to play. Personally, I'd be tempted to make the nearest planet to each system link to the star that way you can still have good defense, but also good allegiance. PM me if you want to chat on it. Overall, it's prolly the best custom-map I've played, but I'd love to improve it a little more.
