Last person to post wins, unless they are a moderator or admin.

Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. If the thread is won by method of locking, the "winner" gains the Achievement Of Reprehensible Epic Lameness.

going off on a tangent, I've been looking at getting a game lately. I had initially decided on Dawn of War:Dark Crusade, but after playing the Supreme Commander 1 demo, I'm rather torn.

On the one hand, I have been wanting to get DC for a while now (Tau+Necrons=WIN!), but the features of SupCom1 simply hold me entranced. The ability to be coordinating my forces against an enemy on the kind of level offered by SupCom simply leaves me speechless. Though some tips for not running out of the "Mass" resource constantly would be greatly appreciated (I can never seem to amass enough Mass; I just realized how funny that sounds).

But on the other hand, DC has something slightly similar (the meta-map campaign), but only slightly. SupCom1 also has much larger maps, much greater unit variation, much more awesome weapons, and even systems that could be called WMDs. The closest thing to a WMD in DoW, any version, is the relic unit.

So, which one do you think I should get?

EDIT: also, is there any way to make the camera freely move? Like in Sins or DoW1? It kinda bugs the crap outta me to have to use the keyboard to rotate the camera.

There is a toggle system for the camera in SupCom, but I rarely use it so can't help you there. It's a good game and I still play it. I can see the draw to either, but I prefer SupCom for the most part because the of realistic physics, versus shooting through walls in DoW. I say SupCom. The campaign alone is pretty badass. More structured than DC, but still long, fun missions.

As for Event Horison, I was a bit older when I saw it, but I first saw it at 1 int eh morning with all the lights off and could not sleep afterwards. Impressive? Well, it had great set design and the movie was well structured. There are more compelling ideas and all, but this was executed in a way which made it wonderful. I love it. Still creeps me out a touch, and keep in mind that even the most twisted moments in The Grudge or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes made me yawn or laugh.

I noticed that Carbon, but I thought it might just be an astronomical reference. Sweet. Speaking of which, you plan on posting anything soon or should I take a crack at it? With so many players, I'm  not sure how often is too often, no turn system in play and all.

lol, go for it as far as posting lore man

I might throw in some more myself soon

just try to keep coordinated with PMs and such

Yeah, from what I've heard SupCom2 takes everything that was uber-unique about SupCom and out and then makes everything also epic fail.

SupCom2 just can't be failtacular, since it can never even be close to a win. (Failtacular=so epically fail that it's almost a win)

I haven't been reading up too carefully on SupCom 2, but thanks for the heads up. I'll make sure to hit reviews to see more on what it does wrong. I kinda felt like Black&White2 did the same thing.

SupCom2 was made to run on a Xbox...so in PC terms=fail. Again my opinion.

I was just reading up on SupCom2. Not only do I get a lot of the complaints people are making, but did I read correctly in that the game needs Steam? I am unwilling to do two things: Pay month to month for a game that doesn't continously grow/change, and put Steam on any of machines.

If it's true, that automatically makes it a no-go for me.

Yes, it requires Steam. There are only 2 games in the WHOLE UNIVERSE I'd be willing to put up with Steam for: Portal and Osmos.

And since I like strategy more than physics-based puzzle, Steam doesn't really float my boat.

I also agree that between supcom 1/supcom 1:forged alliance and dOW dark crusade, my preference is supcom, and I do have both, dow was uninstalled from my mail machines, but sucom is still installed, also I WILL NEVER allow spyware/rootkits like steam into my computers.

when i tried the supcom 2 demo, i was baffled. the first thing i did was make sure the graphic were set to the highest option possible and to my dismay they were. just graphic wise the game was such huge step backwards i can't sleep well even now.

gameplay wise: the new economy sytsem is not that bad, but the game feels a lot smaller unit and map wise

Small is bad. 5000 units fighting it out in a 28 minute battle is good.

*drools at thoughts of epic battle in SupCom*

a couple things-

1. I know there is a 500 unit limit option. Without that option is it that units are unlimited?

2. are there any big maps with sizeable connected bodies of water adjacent to starting bases?

3. which would be the better buy, SupCom1 or FA? I am more interested in playing skirmish games than the campaign.

4. is the SupCom2 demo actually fun to play? I have Steam (mostly because there were couple games that were sadly Steam only that I wanted to check out very badly) and am relatively okay putting up with it for demos.

There are four choices for pop cap: 250, 500, 750, 1000 per player. No unlimited option. (correct me if wrong on pop caps)

There are a few maps with large rivers or connected waterways and many island maps. Moderate number are very large. For largest maps with high pop caps and players, you'll want to download a patch that allows the game to use 3G of memery versus 2. If you can not provide, I can get it to you.

FA gives more units and factions. Go with that. (Corrected mymistake of thinking it needed SupCom1 to play, although for online it only allows one playable faction without SupCom1)

4 will be answered by someone else.

I recomend FA becouse u get 4 races to choose from and its insane and will give u lots of fun.

yeah go for da

the demo of supcom 2 is well painfull, but i am biased because i did play fa, so you may try it out yourself. it is just first 3 (or 4) missions so nothing spectacular.

as for da and huge maps with 1k units for each player: you need a very good machine or else you will watch this in slow motion. there all kind of huge maps, that is not the problem.

I was playing SupCom1 a little while ago and had the usual lag when a huge map with 8 players was getting up there in numbers. Eventually it just crashed and then consistently went down after that. I then patched the game to max out at 3G rather than 2, and since I've been able to play those games. Sure, if players don't get killed, there is some lag late game, but I don't crash and can get some epic battles. Windows is defaulted to limiting your usage to 2G, but it's possible to override.

Go FA. Don't push yourself to play 8 players with 1000 units, but to still get some beefy piles of death and happiness, the 3G patch does wonders. Of course, make sure you get all the game patches first, so that it doesn't get overwritten.

Can you say BOO-YAH?

So, just 1 last question about FA- I can play any faction in an AI skirmish right?

Other than that, I think that FA is what I will get.

yes we  you can

BOOYAH!!! FA, here I come!

you can even steal enemy workers, gaining accses to all factions

hehehehehe. In the demo I liked to reclaim enemy engineers and mass extractors that were close to me.
