Basically, this game is played so that the last person who post wins. What do they win? The ThreadKiller's Achievement; The honor of being the last person to post by virtue of the content of their post. However, moderators, admins, and anyone else who has the ability to lock the thread are disqualified from winning the ThreadKiller's Achievement, if they win by locking. @Draak- I am hoping to get Dark Crusade very soon, and I am wondering what are good Necron/Tau strats/tactics ('Crons/Tau are my favorites, IG+SM just isn't cutting it any more :) )

Also, what is your summation of Soulstorm?

@Ghost- when I command you to spill, YOU WILL SPILL WHAT I COMMAND YOU TO SPILL!!!! In this case it is personal info, since you gave VERY little.

Not for long...

Soulstorm is a waste. The campaign is a straight line and you spend most of the time fighting one group. The two new factions are rehashes of old factions, so they're not much.

Dark Crusade is an improvement. The Necron are very powerful. Their commander has a lot of useful abilities and can come back wherever he fell, potentially putting him behind enemy lines. The Monolith is amazing, but be careful since destroying the command center is the victory condition. The Necron basic infantry is actually capable of becoming as powerful as the advanced infantry if they have a continuous fight. No big ass guns, but small, powerful units. So I would say that swarming with cost effective units is a big way to go for them.

The Tau are a little underwhelming in my opinion, but that's because they have great range units, but little visual range and little to no static defense systems. You have to spot most things. What they do have is a commander capable of setting powerful booby traps, cloaking units capable of great ambushes, and the Kroot Warriors, which can break up an enemy defense line like there's no tomorrow, giving the ranged units and hardcore vehicles an opening to crush, kill, and destroy. Hit em hard with melee and have the artillery pack it in behind em.

The campaign leaves a lot of maps that have particular objectives, and you need to find specific ways to change the use of the species, making that a far more complicated matter. There are sites that have ways to get through each scenario (sometimes requiring adjustment to really make them work).

Sorry I don't know numbers for you. I'm sure there's a wiki somewhere.

Well Draak, thanks for the assessment (sp? and I'm usually such an excellent speller).

Numbers-wise, I've already been over the wiki like 100-1000 times. In particular I'm interested in how well a stealthsuit "rush" against LPs would go, especially considering that SS burst cannons have far longer range than turrets or LP guns when upgraded. The main problem is that those wonderful Fusion Blasters that rip apart just about everything in their path have piss poor range that allows turrets to rip up the SS team.

The main reason I like the Tau is that they have such beautiful range (I've always liked the idea of "shooting the enemy before they see me). Spotting troops aren't really a problem; though which is better for spotting, Stealthsuit teams or Pathfinders? Numbers wise I know that the Tau Hammerhead will out-damage any other tank in the game (uber units excluded), and can outrange any other tank except for the IG Leman Russ.  Of course, Hammerheads have line of site for their full weapons range; the Leman Russ does not.

I also LOVE Kroot Carnivores; probably to the point that my starting build will probably not have FWs in it and instead be Carnivores+Stingwings+Stealthsuits (all with the Path To Enlightment for the Shas'Vre, Fusion Blasters, and Strain Leader). On another note, which is better all around, Mont'ka or Kauyon? I like Mont'ka because then I can get those wonderful Hammerheads and Crisis battlesuits, but Kauyon allows those health+LoS upgrades at the Path and gives me Kroot Hounds and Krootox (though I'm more inclined to use Carnivores over Hounds).

I'm also pretty sure that the Tau Commander has the highest DPS of any other commander around (when the Tau Commander is fully upgraded anyway), with the only other commander outclassing him damage-wise being a properly upgraded Necron Lord.

On the subject of Soulstorm factions, the Sisters of Battle are very rehashish of the SM, but which faction are the Dark Eldar a rehash of? They seem rather original in mechanic/operation.

The Dark Eldar still play to a certain extent like the Eldar. Different in special abilities, but the unit types mostly differ in cosmetics, I feel. Even still, without a good campaign it just doesn't hold up unless you can get it dirt ass cheap. The sisters are a little fun, but only for a couple of bucks.

As for the Tau, I think that the stealthsuit teams work very well, but watch for detectors. Obviously when that becomes a problem, you have to either wittle carefully or switch out your spotters.

The hammerheads are great, but they need to be protected cause they dish it out, but don't take it as well as some vehicles. Of course, adding the Kroot rush on top of that keeps the enemy distracted.

I've never mixed stingwings in the mix, but Kroots, stealthsuits, and a few heavy hitters will make a hole in them, discounting Necrons, which hold the line like no one's business. As for Mont'ka or Kauyon, it depends. I go with Mont'ka, cause I like the Crisis and Hammerhead for turtling and then mobilize when ready to assault. My way of playing though. Keep in mind that the Tau are good at holding their own for a bit and assaulting at the best opportunity. I was playing a friend of mine (he was Ork), and his first wave of max units ran into my line and were torn up, just obliterated. I struck back, but the size of the map allowed him to get back to half capacity and do a lot of damage to me. I lost, but it goes to prove that if I just moved up my defensive line and reset, I would have steadily pushed him back, at least had a chance.

I also love my games. But there not like yourses.....  I like shooter/arcade. No keyboard.    Oh Yeah!!!B)

@Draak- ah, I see. My main reason for Stingwings is their combat abilities and the fact that Stingwings are far tougher and more mobile detectors than Pathfinders.

What would be some good tips for using 'Crons?

@IROKONESS- I like more than strat games; I enjoy the occasional PC-based FPS (Battefield 2142 FTW!! Nexuiz FTW!!), and I love playing space sim games.

prefer strat games myself

though I go for a good RPG as well (can anyone say Star Wars MMO? and its the SWTOR one)

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....For Chaos!!!!!!!!

Sorry, been playing Firestrom over Kronus, mod for Dark Crusade. And Chaos is so freaking cool, in this mod. Never though myself as a Chaos man but...I do like my Plauge Marines.

I like Zerks!! "I am not your bootlick!!" The Chaos forces have some of the best unit VOs in the game. The only other ones I really like (I only have up to WA at present) are the Imperial Psyker, the Baneblade, the Chaplain, and some Eldar units (I really don't like Orks).

Yeah, they are great. :cylon:   (space sim fighters)

Kudos on you's all though. May the force be with you.......

The force does not exist. Only that which serves in death.

Strat games are my mainstay, but good FPS or RPG do as well, especially Fallout 3, best of both worlds.

As for Necron, I didn't play them too much, but I find that you don't really need too many advanced units. The basic infantry you get a couple of squads free, and they can build DPS as they fight, so just keep em alive and they do great. Throw in a few Pariahs and those floating guys (name eludes me), to phase in behind enemy lines and you have a good fight. The Necron Lord alone can make a good fight against most, but use him as support for the others, resurrecting them when need be and turning into that death incarnate thing, and it already stomps most. Their vehicles are about as underwhelming as they look. Not bad, but not designed to take on large numbers of infantry. The Necrons are good rushers. Just protect that Monolith cause instead of the Necrons shutting down when they lose numbers (which I think is how the table top works) they shut down when the Monolith dies.

Zombies in space... anyone here heard of Reavers?

Reavers are not Zombies

Zombies have no feelings or life beyond the need to move and feed thats it

Reavers are on the opposite of the spectrum, they are so full of life that they are overcharged and go on rampages just to rampage and kill/rape/whatever, they also show a highly developed sense of intelligence in their ability to operate/build/maintain ships in space. Not an easy task. They even show a high degree of imagination.

Oh and I posted more lore
