It possible to 1v1 Erebus, survive, and profit with some dg's. He simple isn't that terrifying, if you know what to expect, and keep a level head.
Now, certain DG's just aren't built to handle him, at all. I would certainly place Rook within that camp, although I have no doubt that a smart Rook could and will defeat a dumb Erebus. On the plus side, Rook is absolutely terrifying when well played from a tactical side, because basically no other assasin DG can hold down a lane like him, and once he has some levels and gold he becomes an indestructible siege engine constantly waddling into your back lines.
Most of the DG's have strengths and weaknesses, but the funny thing about Erebus is he really has neither. He's totally versatile, and effective at whatever he is doing, but he's never doing any one thing better then anyone else (my opinion.) This gives him alot of ability in the early game, where generally peoples weaknesses are at their most obvious, but there is a simple solution!
Minion build Erebus always go for either clerics, or save up for bishops. In any event, chances are, they have priests on the ground. Early game Erebus is bad because he's fast and has some staying power as a result of said priests, so stop targeting Erebus. Kill his priests, make him wish he brought a mana potion, and send him back to his crystal. As a matter of fact, the entire game, learn to target his priests. Use burst damage if you have to, make him resummon them over and over again. Alot of his early game advantage can be stopped by simply ignoring him (he really isn't that deadly by himself) and killing his support. Without his support, he's suddenly just a fast, kinda squishy melee dg with mana issues. This isn't neccesarily the case for assasin Erebus, but killing his priests still works early game.
If you see someone rolling an Erebus, and you know they are good, don't grab the Rook. Grab a tb, and a parasite egg, or an Oak, or heck a Sedna. I've used Seda very effectively against Erebus because they inevitably target me, and forget about my minions, and I just go to town on his priests and suddenly hey look i'm healing myself for way more damage then your doing, out tanking you, and taking this damn lane.
Oh, and by the way, if he mists? profit. Run outside of the mist. Let him waste his mana while you kill his priests. I can't tell you how many times i've been playing and watch my ally sit in the damn mist for some reason. Dont do it.
If he mist's and your playing Sedna, pat yourself on the back. The minute he's done misting, silence him. The scramble is always delightful to watch.
