I wish that the United Kingdom hadn't relinquished control of 1/4 of the world as easily as it had... now we have all these minor nations causing international problems that were once kept in line by British rule.

Granted. Many third world countries may well have had democracy and freedom for several years now, despite the fact that they had to endure British control for a while longer. Not only are they no longer under British control, their infrastructure improved on during the rule with the intent of making a stable nation, but they also aren't starving or shot at by their country's army. Britain is also much poorer, due to the Empire no longer being economically viable after WW2 (remember that we'd just spent 6 years at war), but it's all for a good cause. Xer0's wish brings us a step closer to global economic equality.

I wish for more wishes that I approve of.

Granted. The time machine you eventually wish for goes haywire and transports you to the origin of the universe at the Big Bang. Although You are incinerated in the explosion, the atoms of your being eventually help to create the galaxies we all know today.

Now I wish for a Time Machine

Granted. Your time machine is then stolen by the government, who, through a naive understanding of temporal physics, attempt to avert multiple major disasters (like WWII, the BP oilspill, and-what-have-you). However, they obviously fail, because these events are still known to us today.

2. The British can be beaten in battle, and once or twice a century, in war. But not wiped out. With the Russians, it only gets worse, because they'll go all "scorched earth" on you.
