Metroid Mod: Weapon FX Help Wanted!

Plus some actual mod!

I have always been a big Metroid fan since 4th grade, and I have had the idea of creating a Mtroid game or mod for nearly as long. When I got GC2, I realised that it would be a great platform for a Metroid mod. Originally, I thought I was the only Metroid guy on the forums, but an odd little conversation over at Elemental convinced me to go public:

Set at some point between Prime: Echoes and Prime: Corruption, this mod enables you to control any of the major players in the Metroid universe:

  • Galactic Federation
  • Zebesian Alliance (Space Pirates)
  • Nolor Vangaurd(Gandrayda's species)
  • Urtagan Disciples (rogue Pirates from Prime 3: Corruption)
  • Phrygisian Conglomerate (Rundas' species)
  • Diamont Authority
  • Vhozon Orthodoxy
  • Ing Horde
  • Luminoth Resurgence
  • Elysian Mainframe
  • Kriken Empire
  • Possible secret race........

I intend to have complete tech trees, conversations, flavor text, and shipstyles for all races, as well as new music, a new UI, new improvements, and planets.

PREVIEW PACK RELEASE APLHA: After a few months of looking for a suitable upload for my Preview Pack, I have finally been able to get it posted here! During the wait, I completed a new minor race: The Enoema (aka. Kanden). There are also new terrein pics for the planet screens (no new planets, yet, though), and PARTIAL FlavorText conversions. The site is only good for up to 30 days, but I hope to have MUCH more on the way by then!

Also, if anyone has expericance with 3-D modelling or animation and is willing to make weapon FX or ship parts, please drop me a post: I've been trying to tech myself how to use Blender, but I'm just too busy with the rest of this ungodly massive mod to make much headway.

UPDATE 004: Well, after a long hiatus betatesting EWOM, I'm back at the mod with a vengreance! Already replaced the entire GC2 soundtrack with music from the Metroid series, and have gotten a good way through the Luminoth tech tree. Also been working on the economic and improvement systems, although Wii difficulties have prevented me from screenshotting any pictures. I also plan to redo the UI, but that's still a loooooooong way off.

  1. Create text and stats for major races. *DONE*
  2. Create logos and graphics for major races. *DONE*
  3. Rip contact music for major races. *DONE*
  4. Compose Default tech tree. *DONE*
  5. Metroidize all game music. *DONE*
  6. Create default improvement set. *DONE*
  7. Create default ship component set. *DONE*
  8. Create default starbase module and miscellaneous economic thing set.*DONE*
  9. Retool flavortext.
  10. Retool conversations.
  11. Create race-specific tech trees.
  12. Create race-specific improvements.
  13. Create race-specific miscellaneous economic things.
  14. Rip in-game movies and popup pictures.*DONE*
  15. Rip improvement pictures. (Haven't looked @ Fox's set recently, may be more done than I thought)
  16. Retool weapon and UI sound effects.
  17. Create weapons impact animations.
  18. Create weapons flight animations.
  19. Create new User Interface.
  20. Create scenario maps.
  21. Create scenario missions.
  22. Create Campaign and campaign graphics.
  23. Create new ship styles.
  24. Create new component models.

Movies and popups are done! Fox, I would really appreciate getting a few new ship models, but I've got a lot of other stuff to do as well, so there's no real rush.

P.S: If anyone knows how the weapon animations work, I would greatly appreciate tips on how to make them in Blender.

Foxthree has provided me wsith a nice base title background for the mod: I intend to add in a new actual "background" background a little later, as well as actually getting some of the real screens working (I'm going to go with a powersuit HUD sort of look, what else?).

If you make the ships and either send me the files over at iMod or just copy and paste the data into the forum, I can do the rest.

EDIT: If you don't know what files I'm talking about, look in C:\Documents and Settings\{Whatever your user name is}\My Documents\My Games\GC2TwilightArnor\ships . There will be two files in there for each ship you save, an XML and a TXT with the ship's name. I need both.

Hey Ive found a really great sight to help you with your mod be warned the sight uses script but other than that you can find out everything.About the metroid universe even add to it www.metroid.wikia.com/ enjoy.

Already use it. Wonderfully accessible reference for obscure things like the serial number of a Federation Growler-class turret (GM-42, if you care), as well as lore and backstory I'd never even heard of.

Maybe you where right me you and zyx are the only modders left im proby going to dissapear for awhile with soon release of mass effect 2,startrek online,and dark siders coming out all at once. this is going to be a crazy month so say goodbye to your friends and family. :grin:

Just be sure to name the ships in a way that I can figure out what they're supposed to be. i.e. Dalek_Colony or something like that.

I've managed to reconstruct my weapos tree back to where it was before I overwrote it......... it's considerably easier the 2nd time............

YEEEEEA I got my shipstyles to work it was so simple I laugh and cryed but here they are in action

Your ships are almost ready 4 races sofar don't know what kind of ship design for some of them.

Well, I promised you guys weapons by the end of the week, so I got to work on...... alternitive improvement bonus images :P ! They can be a little obtuse for those of us who aren't painfully familiar with Metroid..... but so is the whole mod.....

more on the ships Zebesian Alliance ship style done Elysian Mainframe will be done tommrow the galactic federation will be the hardest to make.

Phew.... I've finally got the weapons working! The graphics are just stand-ins, though... although I'm becoming very profficient w/ Photoshop and Blender........

I've finally come up with an official name for this mod..... well, names, actually:

  • Metroid Prime: Empires
  • Metroid: Species War
  • Metroid: Civilizations

Any input from the last vestages of the modding community?

I'll also be releasing a new Preview Pack shortly, and I got a nifty little device for my birthday that will enable me to get movies and pics directly off my Wii.... expect some abnormally high-qualirty graphics in the finished product.

soory ive uploaded the ships ive very busy with a secret project right now for the stargate mod its taking up all my time at the moment.Check imod for more details sofar im partly done with ings ships but i have 6 done sofar you should be quite pleased.PS try use the emipres name the others have been done.

Empires it is, then.... I'll get to the ships at some point, but right now I'm happily ripping away with my Dazzle (whoa..... THAT sounded obscene!) and making cutscenes as I play through the Trilogy..... the fact that I got a new Wii and have to play the games all the way through to get at the movies has slowed me down somewhat, but I've got the "capital ship" and "tech victory" ones finalized..... plus, the defenses are being chugged along nicely....

I now have all the defenses done.I've decided to hold off on releasing the beta preview (why, oh WHY did I go with Greek letters, the one designation system the game industry already uses!? This pack has very little to do with an actual beta game) until I've finished all the "economic" stuff that needs to be balanced, like improvements, ship parts, technologies, and so forth (I'll deal with the graphics later, once the "guts" are in place).

All ship parts are now complete. Of course by "complete" I mean hideous placeholder graphics, but all the code and numbers are in there, ready to use.Now, for the starbase parts and asteroid mines.....

Asteroid mines (I call them harvesters, after an arena in Metroid Prime: Hunters that reminds me of the underside of a mining base) are done and dusted (minus the models, which I will do at some point in the FAR distant future).... starbases next!
