I created this post forum entry back on the 19th. November, and after the update 1.01[b].025 still not working for me, boots only the nice Aurora screen.  I have tried all suggestions but to no avail......crap.

Bootskin Pro was working for me before the most recent update (1.01 [b].024), on both Vista Home Premium x64 and Vista Ultimate 32 bit, but now it seems to load and apply skins a little faster than before.  Great work, Stardock, and thank you.

Has any other "Australian" using this product managed to get it to work?

Yeah, I've had it working since 1.00.037, on both 32 and 64 bit Vistas

("Locale" setting in the "Administrator Tab" is set to English (US).

Mine is set to English (Australia).. maybe you could reset your locale to Australia to see if this remedies the issue... like your locale setting needs to correspond with your selected time zone (assuming thats Sydney Melbourne Brisbane, etc) and other settings for Bootskin Pro/Windows to apply bootskins properly.  Dunno cos I'm no expert, but it's a thought.

This is originally how I had it, didn.t work, then changed it as suggested in previous posts....either way "Aurora" Screen. Will still try other variants.

Are you also running it with the SP1 pack installed?

Yes I am, whether or not that makes any difference i don't know... but I still think I'd be inclined to reset the locale to Australia and reboot prior to trying to apply a bootskin, being that you reset it to the US and updates to Bootskin Pro have since been released to address the location issue for most, including Australia.

Anyhow, all the best with it and I hope you get it resolved soon. :)

I'm using Vista Ultimate SP1, 32 Bit.

Regional Language options set to English (Singapore).

I'm running BootSkin Pro 1.01.024 and only the Vista skin applies. The rest don't work.

My locale was English-Australia.

I reset it to English-United States and bootskin pro then worked.

I then reset it again to English-Australia and bootskin pro still works (believe it or not)!!!!

Let's look at some facts...

1. Several Boot Logo programs worked until the release of Vista SP2

2. Vista SP2 was released on or around 26th. March 2008

3. Stardock's pathetic attempt was released on or around 19th. November 2008

4. It is now the 21st. January 2009, and still many people around the world are unable to get this program to work. (March 2008 to now, to get the program to work)

It should never have seen the light of day until it at least worked on all Vista systems, and then perhaps patches released to improve the product.

It at best has been an "Alpha" release, and Stardock should approach Microsoft for some answers or assistance as to how to remedy the situation, after all, they have claimed on several occasions that Microsoft endorse their attempts to imrpove the GUI and other appearance programs. eg. Window Blinds, Vista Logon, CursorFX etc.

People have paid good money, and deserve better support than they are getting.

Ian, thanks for the feedback.  Bootskin Pro diod go through as much testing as possible within the scope available.  And for the majority of the users, it has worked very well.

As there are so many permutations in the PC world it does become difficult to test for everything and things do get through.  You can trust that we wish they didn't and when they do, we try to fix as we can.  There have been updates to the latest version to handle some issues that cropped up and other are in the works.  Microsoft has not made it easy to modify this easily but we trudge on.  And we do work with Microsoft when situations crop up.  :)

As we get user reports we address each one and try to find resolutions.  Thankfully, the community around Stardock products understands that oftentimes there are issues and participate as partners in resolving them.

So again . . thanks for the feedback and the patience.  We really appreciate both.

It really doesn't work - no matter what you do. Uninstall + re-install + delete previous setup folders and registry entries + reboots + recent download and new install, etc....

Yes, Canada, but using US english keyboard...

It's not the keyboard language that matters - it's the system locale that can be changed under the Administrative tab in the Regional and Language Options dialog.

Recently, I did a full system re-format and usually, I always set the keyboard to (english USA). However, this time I re-formatted without thinking about the settings and presumed that it was set correctly. In reviewing the setup as suggested, [language setting] + [locale], I realized that my setup was (english CANADA). And so I changed both to (english USA) and now the skins can be applied. It's nice to see it working - but users shouldn't have to do this...

Thanks |-)

MS has kind of tied our hands with Vista; trust us that we would rather it be easier.  Glad you got it working though.
