I'm sure the backroom boys are working frantically to sort this out, so I would advise everyone to be patient. It's now the weekend, so everyone will be at home (hopefully) with their feet up.

Meanwhile folks can keep posting system information (as much as possible) to assist with resolving these issues.

I've just installed it on my Vista rig today and am getting the same error:  "There was an error while applying [SKIN NAME]"

I'm running Vista Home Premium (yes, I know, but I have no need for Ultimate yet :| ) 32bit with SP1, English and have UAC turned OFF (one of the first things I addressed after install :P ).

Hope you guys can fix this, as I've been looking forward to being able to change the boot screen on Vista.

I also do agree that having the animation is important.  It's there for a reason and I dare say most, if not all power users would definitely miss having it.  Sure, being able to change boot screens is a great improvement but at the cost of the progress indicator?  I would think not.

Anyways, thanks for your hard work guys and awesome apps guys.

It's Monday Morning.  Give them a chance.  If it were an easy fix you and I could have done it, right?

In reply to Zubaz, if the program had been properly tested prior to release these problems would NOT have existed...Already three attempts to patch a badly tested program....not good enough.

Apple has an advantage in that they KNOW exactly what each and every system has and can handle that.  In the PC world, one never knows what combination of OS, software, and hardware one user may have come up with.  And because of the integration of SD apps to the OS a relativly small difference can cause a failure that SD cannot test for.

Providing lots of data is usually the best way to help yourself and the community.

I personally think that is time that people started demanding their money back from "Stardock."

This might persuade them to treat the matter of "poor prgramming" more seriosly.

still no fix? for the bootskin pro app for uk users

It's a US holiday now.  I'd not expect to hear anything until the weekend is over.

Stardock is well aware of the issue and wioll address it on thier return.

I dont get it, why does Stardock release a prog that does not work ?

It does work but not on all systems. Many are having no issues at all running the program. Give the developers time and they will find the solution.

This is a pretty lame comment.

People pay for a working copy, they do NOT pay to purchase "Alpha" or "Beta" programs. The problem predominately exists in SP1 versions of Vista.

It is obvious that "Stardock" took little/no notice of how "Microsoft" changed how the "BootUp" procedure worked in their release of SP1.

As Zubaz said, the offices are closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We are aware of users having problems with BootSkin Pro and are working to resolve them.  There really isn't anything more that can be said beyond that.

Did not realise the program was still being worked on, there is no mention it is an Alpha or Beta version, if that is so i would never have dowloaded it in the first place. I also endorse the comments made by Ian.

Programs that interact directly with an OS will by their very nature be at the mercy of OS revisions and subsequently require amendment.  This won't be the case with a 'standard' program such as Photoshop.  Such a program is typically only ever altered/updated to enhance features, etc.

OS-interfacing programs such as [many of] Stardock's may at times require actual alteration/s to reflect changes that Microsoft makes to 'updates'/service packs, etc.

This does NOT mean a program is released as an 'untested beta' as some insinuate, but at the time of its testing it DID function as intended but subsequent OS revision/s have caused it to fail on some systems.

As Zoomba said... a resolution is being worked on.

Anyone who has been familiar/using Stardock's products will already have seen occasions when SD Program updates were released simply to keep up with Microsoft's OS revisions.  Windowblinds would be just one example....;)

I am too having the same problem, Vista 32, SP1 (what is UAC?). I also noticed that after the updates the program is not being registerd cause whenever I try to apply a downloaded Bootskin I receive a message asking with what program should I open it, and, after looking if it was or not there, I discovered that the folder exists, but after opening msconfig, it does not seem to be registered not in services and not in startup programs, so it is as if it where not being properly installed.
