Sins: Entrenchment Delayed to Allow for Public Beta Testing

Stardock and Ironclad Games have decided to delay the final release of Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment, the first micro-expansion for the hit stratey game. Originally slated for release on November 18th, Entrenchment will first be put through a public beta test for pre-order customers. This will allow us to finely hone Entrenchment ahead of its final public debut, the date of which has not yet been set (it will largely depend on beta feedback).

While we know this will disappoint some in the Sins community, we feel this will help make Entrenchment a far stronger product overall.

If it isn't charged in time, the card won't be valid!!!! And I don't want to miss out or lose my discount etc...

I dont think it'll be soon though. Stardock haven't announce the date yet, so it shouldbe more than a month away.

This could make things "interesting". I was under the impression they would charge when the beta started since I had pre-ordered. The issue I have is that I don't know when that will be, or when the bank will issue me the new cards and shift the balance etc.. over....

Sorry everyone. This is my fault. I had to send my laptop in for repairs and wouldn't get it back in time for the 18th release. As I wallowed in my sorrow I made a few unfortunate wishes that seem to have come true. Flame me all you want...I deserve it.

That could certainly make things very interesting... I myself encountered an issue like that with my local telecom(thought they'd already charged me, but they hadn't, had to get a new CC#, ended up getting billed 2 months at the same time by the time I got everything straightened out).

While I appreciate the concept of this attempt at customer friendliness, when I pre-order something I want the money to be GONE so that I can't accidentally spend it on something else. This is the entire reason I pre-order, not to ensure I have a copy(because I know I can get one eventually, somehow, even if I have to wait a week or so), but to ensure that I have it paid for and no longer have to factor it in to any kind of thought processes in the future.

I'm also going to agree with the gentleman that said its much, much better to be blizzard than valve in the release date situation. A "Its done when its done" approach with a guesstimate(and make sure its VERY CLEAR that its a guesstimate) as to the month that its going to be released is far preferable to the "Its coming out xx/xx/xx" and then going "Well, we know we SAID it was coming out xx/xx/xx, but now its not, we'll let you know when we feel like having you play the "are we lying to you again" game in a little while."

Good news about the additional beta testing, very, very poor way/time to announce it >_<.

Isn't having a public beta for preorders essentially the same as receiving it when it comes out? I mean really beta not beta... at least I get the game! And have my voice heard. Kudos to stardock!

So I was lookin on impulse to preorder entrenchment, and it says that the release date is January 1, 2009. Dont know if thats definate, but aint anywhere near as close as I was hoping.

That date isn't definite. The beta for Entrenchment will start sometime soon and the release will depend on the beta's progress, but it isn't likely before January anyway for the full release.

I have no clue why people complain about impulse/stardock.... if it gives me this close and personal a relationship with the developer then like any friend, I don't mind the possibility that I would lose update ability in the future should something happen...friends don't do that to each other... there is no reason a patch could not be made available if something like that happened....

When we don't know, sometime soon (IC mentioned we'd be playing it over Christmas, that's the only estimate we have so far).

It will be available on Impulse.
