Get Your E:WoM Avatars Here! [image heavy thread]

They only cost one (1) karma - each!

OK. Call me anal but all the gradient silhouettes are driving me nuts. So I decided to make a full set avatar from the Elemental resources we currently have. Please note that Luckmann has added many more avatars to the collection. You can get them below.

NOTE:  most of these were created/cropped/edited by folks other than myself, so please give credit where credit is due

Additional Note:  There are many more avatars scattered throughout the forum.  I just posted the majority of them here.  I have tried to include suggested pages to find more avatars by the various avatars if you want to look further.  You can also use the "view edits" button if you're very very brave to view all previous versions of this main thread and the images where-in.

OFFICIAL ART AVATARS:
(made from the official art of Elemental)

These were formatted by  (me):

The following were formatted by Luckmann: (To provide karma; you can find his posts throughout the forum, especially on page 2 and 3)

(Elemental sub-sets:  still by Luckmann)

Elemental Crystal Shards:

Elemental Symbols:

More art variants of 'official art' by Luckmann link: HERE

The following were formatted by landisaurus:  (to provide karma; go pretty much to any page after page 2.)

He has also volunteered to make custom edited avatars for people who ask in exchange for karma. just PM him.

(these are kinda odd-ball ones created by Landisaurus using official art.)

More are scattered throughout the forums.  Pages 4-7 in particular.  They feature things like 'bear cavalry units' art and 'flying shark units'  and other in-forum jokes.

The following were formatted by Wintersong:  (to provide karma; Wintersong's submissions are mostly on page 8+.  Page 8 to spot the first main batch)

*Coming soon*

This OP is under construction.  Due to some browsing issues it is being completely reformatted and built from scratch.  There are other user avatars and lots of additional avatars that are supposed to be here in the OP.  Jalicos (page: 15) and eplekogen (page: 5) come to mind right away.  They should have avatars in this OP soon.  Of course wintersong has tons of avatars scattered throughout the web.  its a work in progress tracking them down and sorting into 'official art' and 'unofficial art' especially since some of the old 'official' art did not match the current style as well as others.

We are busy people though, and editing this takes more time than one might think.

Unofficial art Avatars:  (also coming soon... there are tons in the "view edits" below that should be resurrected up here soon)
(these were not made with Elemental Art, but were inspired by Elemental: War of Magic and/or similar works)

@Luckmann & Landisaurus - OK guys do either of you have Steam and want L4D? If so I have a left over copy L4D to give someone. I bought seven copies to give to guys on my forums as presents and to play with them as a team but one of them already had game. So I have one left over. I figured since you both have contributed so much to the community here it would be best to give it to one of you.
I thank you very much for the offer, but I don't use Steam at all. Thanks again, though. Now I feel bad for not brining presents.

:P

man, I just bought my copy of L4D like 2 days ago.  I really appriciate the thought, but I fear now I already have the game.

You get karma for the thought for sure!

hey spartan, are you going to take down the 'limited edition' crystals?   you know, since now its no longer 2008?   It was a question I wondered this question ever since I saw the label as 'limited edition'.

It was a fun ploy from what I understand - nothing more or nothing less. :andrew:

Now they are of course collector items! \o/

It isn't an avatar, but I figured it should still go here.   Its an Elemental "Digi-con".

Luckman gets the points for motivating me to do it.

We have all these animals like sheep :sheep: or cows :moo:   but no bears.

So here it is.  The Bear Digicon :bear:

(woah :surprised: , I didn't notice this 2nd page of faces  :congrat:   How long have they been there  :-|   )

One of the SD guys has to add the Digicon bear to the collection. :frogboy:

At least a few years. The drug-addled looking ones are a recent change--I think some person or crew on another Stardock site won some sort of contest because the larger crowds over there thought the 'old' smilies were, well, 'old.' :P

do you really think its worth being on the collection?  I think there is a lot of room for improvement, but I guess most artists say that about their own art.

I would consider sharping the eyes more and smoothing the edge but otherwise it rocks.

I prefer prose for the bulk of my post reading and writing, but the smilies are Stardock-wide and plenty of folks talk about the economy in other forums, so a bear would have more to do than perpetuate the in-joke here at Elemental.

But IIRC, they are still between formally assigned web devs, so any site work is effectively an extra burden for someone who's working on other code. Smilie updates (and others) might be few and far between for a while.

lol, I had no expectation that there was actually a chance that could happen.    I was just proud that somebody suggested the quality was anywhere close enough that it looked like it fit.

Alright, I tried to smooth the edge here a little bit more.

And here I tried tosharpen the eyes a little by adding a light effect similar to that found on the fox face.  I also highlighted the area around the eyes to create more contrast.

And just to see, I also tried the big smily face eyes seen on several of the other icons.

and lastly the one that only has the lights on the eyes (and I did one more very light smoothing run on it again, or more of a touch up on 2 places)

Look better to you spartan?   :congrat:

Those are great, landi! Although the one with big smiley face eyes looks like it's about to shoot laser eye beams at me x_x

I think the light effect in the eyes is great, though. Also if you want to make your bear in the same style as the other digicons (I don't know if that's a goal or not), a small shadow at the bottom (and in general making it look as if it's lit from the top left, out of the page) would go a long way I think.

yeah, thats been a frustration of mine working with it.   However it fights me because my efforts to make a shadow seem to just be turning into an extension of the face.  I'm still working on that part.  And I can certainly make a higher contrast in the general shade flom upper left to lower right.

does that look better shaded?

Just to clarify I don't think there was anything wrong with the original shading - it just wasn't in the same style of the digicons on these forums.

But yes, that's much truer to the style of the standard digicons, although I would move the light source (for lack of better words) a little farther up. Also, maybe to avoid the little drop shadow at the bottom looking like an extension of the face, a more apparent outline might help (but might also make it look weird).

Oh and also, the abrupt one-pixel indentation where the cheek on the left ends is a little disconcerting. Is it possible to smooth it out any more than that?

And I've gotta say it again, you've definitely got the skills judging from your work with avatars, this icon and your elemental mounts. Keep up the good work!

Edit: Oh, and congratulations on your second cookie! :P

k1 karma for effort.

I do see that now.  I blame the viewing angle of the screen I was doing my editing on.  When the picture is blown up to my full screen its not as evident, and I run it on a crazy high resolution so its hard to actually see it clearly when its actual pixel size (1920x1200 I believe, I'm on a different computer right now so I can't pull up my original file to fix it, but I should have that fixed tonight.)

Edit: Oh, and congratulations on your second cookie!

thanks
