What sucks is that they have better cloths, cars and food than I do, and I work at a real job for a living!

Are you sure they're not selling drugs (or other unreportable illegal activities) to buy the clothes and cars?   I was on AFDC when I was pregnant with my first child, and there was no way I could afford a car, good clothes or uppity food.  It was enough to pay the rent in a two-bedroom apartment in an average neighborhood, and keep gas in the beater car I drove...mostly it paid for my high-risk pregnancy and complicated birth, which would have left me dead if it wasn't available, because I would have just brushed off the pain I was feeling from throwing blood clots to my lungs, hoping it would pass.

There are exceptions to everything.  You used the system as it was meant to be used not as a permenant reason not to support yourself.

Ooooooo...I really like that idea.

That's pretty much why my two youngest adult children and my spouse who are all students right now aren't getting government handouts...because they're mine, they live with me, and I have a job.  OH, that reminds me!  The kids have a friend who goes to college with them who is  getting everything paid for by the government because her deceased father's veteran benefits--and she also gets food stamps!  She encouraged my kids to check out what they could get (would be nice to have someone help out with all this responsibility I'm presently carrying), but they were told by the welfare office if they were full-time college students, they had to be working at least 30 hours a week on top of going to school full time to qualify for any benefits (my youngest has a part-time job but it's only 20 hours a week).

I guess we're just not savvy enough to know how to play the system.

I haven't felt this young in years. I feel we have a truly great President Elect here, and one who needs all of us to fix what's broken.

What the hell is wrong with you people!! You are acting like this guy actually IS a messiah. He's a mortal man. He's a politician, and like all politicians.. he is a liar. If you think for one minute that this man actually wrote all of his speeches himself and that what he has been saying are his own words then I really feel sorry for you. He spent an enormous amount of (largely unaccounted for) money hiring the best script writers, producers etc that could present this false image in a believable manner. This money also allowed him to manipulate the media in ways that have never been done before and bury most things that warranted serious investigation. If those same allegations had been made against any other candidate you can bet the media's behavior would have been much different.

This man is not at all who he represents himself to be. Only time is going to tell the tale though, but in the meantime stop kissing his ass. He has done NOTHING do deserve glorification. NOTHING at any time in his career. The only thing hes accomplished is run one of the most successfull off broadway productions in history.

Every minority in the country would disagree with you as they are experiencing a spiritual lift today that noone ever thought they would experience. Obama is a statesman and a uniter. You can give him a chance or you can just dismiss him.  It's your choice but your missing something special right now.

Maybe we should talk about something less polarizing and divisive...

How about religion?

Perhaps in time he will prove to be so.  One can hope but it is a bit early to make that claim. Maybe just before the next presidential election we can review what he did for the Country, the World and then decide.

Obama needs to acknowedge reality, erring on the side of overstating the problems and challenges, and he needs to prepare the country for several tough years. Because if he doesn't, within six months of his taking office, the country will have forgotten all about the prior administration and will instead be blaming everything on him.

I wasn't speaking of you specifically. I mean, over the past 8 years, the leftwing hatred of Bush has been off the charts. They even have a term for it - Bush Derangement Syndrome.

And who was the deranged party? I'd say that what he did to the Constitution, illegal holding w/o charging, illegal wire tapping w/o warrants, etc. when he could have obtained them legally points to  derangement of the megalomaniac variety.

Okay, I guess I was referring to you after all as you clearly are quite a partisan.

I guess I can use your comment here to illustrate the point -- now that YOUR guy is elected, suddenly you expect all those who don't agree with his policies to suddenly make nice.  But when it was OUR guy, well, that was different because he was a horrible monster.

I have one suggestion for you: Learn empathy.

THANK YOU!!!!

its about time someone said it.

and everyone out there who subscribes to the "you don't like him because he's black" mantra.

Close your eyes, pretend you never saw his face. Look at what he has done in the past, who he associates with, his personal beliefs(you don't spend over 20 years within a church and not profess to believe the words spoken there), what his goals are, and what his vice president is known for.

Now tell me, is this the "great man?" everyone is worshiping? I would be proud to vote for a president , black, white, red, yellow or indigo for that matter , who truly had the people (all the people not just the ones who can further his goals) and their well being at heart. I haven't seen one of these men in my lifetime. I doubt I will. I have begun to believe they only exist in fairy tales and seminaries.

I worry for my self, and my family. None of us makes more than36k a year most make much less. None of us had the advantage of college as it was not affordable and we didn't qualify for assistance(that lovely line between poverty and middle class we all sit upon.) I worry for the nation as a whole. We're suffering now and the suffering's going to get worse long before it gets better. Our "esteemed" president elect has little experience and lofty goals, combined with scary friends and unknown alliances.

I pray (ya I really do that.) that things will work out for the better and suddenly someone will twang our president elect on the head and make him a fairy prince to rescue us. But despite my prayers, I am a realist still at heart ,and know that spotted animals rarely turn plain.

I didn't support him when he was campaigning , and I don't support his ideas and plans, as I can see no good coming of them. But for good or bad , I am stuck with him and will live under his puppet rule as I have lived under the puppet rule of each president before him. I expect him to be just as much an impetuous ruler as the last one was, just in a different direction. I wonder if congress can control this one any better than they did the last, or the one before him , or the one before him, or the one before him....

All I see here is a bunch of people that have been conditioned by fear. Obama's campaign was based on hope and many of you can't handle that because you are conditioned to respond to fear. Obama does not preach fear so you have to create fear for your own comfort.

Well, even though I wanted the outcome to be different and I still think putting such a liberal in office is really going to come back and bite us in the ass.  I have to admit it is a wonder and a joy to finally see that we voted a black (and yes i said black) man in office.  We finally were able to look past the color of his skin and judged a man by the content of his character.  With such a surge of new young voters, it is truly a changing moment in history.

So with that being said, we have a democratic President and a democratic Congress there should be no excuses of why something can’t be done.  The Democratic Party has always blamed the Republicans for not being able to achieve their goals.  Whether the change is good or bad, change needs to happen, regardless.  There are no excuses this time!!!

Though I dutifully support our President, I still question his true intention and his integrity.  Only time will tell now.

I think Obama is probably a fine person.  I have no personal issue with him.

But I am taking his word that he is going to do the things he wants to do which include raising my taxes which will likely result in me having to lay people off. This isn't some abstract principle we're talking here.

I don't think Obama is going to ruin the country or anything like that.  I'll certainly wait and judge him on his deeds.  But he has been reasonably specific about some of the things he wants to do including goverment run healthcare which I strongly oppose, proposing laws that harm the traditional energy companies (the people who provide our electricity and gas, the bastards) and giving a check to 95% of Americans whether they paid taxes or not paid for by the top 5% who are people like me -- business owners.

If Obama gets the US out of Iraq, that'll be a credit to him. I'd also like to see the US out of Afghanistan as well.

Phoon, there is nothing wrong with me. I am not one who believes in your Messiah, so it can't be that either. If he has lied, then prove it. Or, maybe just take some rage controlling chem and chill. For some odd reason you sound like someone unhappy with the result of the election. If so, either get over it, or live somewhere else. How do you know how his speeches are written? Are they any less valid?

Yeah....some anger management should help...but maybe not. You have an alternative: "America: Love it or Leave it"

Remember that quote? Remember who used it? Well....if the shoe fits....or, if it doesn't .... use it for taking a walk.

What about the conservatives hell bent on dismantling the new administration, no matter how well they do, as it is their only chance at reviving their party?

The conservatives are in no place to do anything.  Since the Congress (House and Senate) has a majority base this means that the Democrats can place their constituents in the right place.  Congress should have no problem moving bills through the House and the Senate to get them placed on the president’s desk. And since they are all of the same party and should (being that they are of the same frame of mind), have no problem getting the bills passed and placed into law.

Now, we have seen what happens when the democrats run congress.  The evidence is from the last two years.  But you would in turn say to me. “Hey Goo, we had an idiot as President for the last eight years, now that Obama is going to be president, things will get better.” And then I would say to you “Though I understand about the last eight years , the last time we had a democratic Congress and President was during the Carter Administration.  I hope things turn out to be a lot better.”

but if given tax breaks for hiring, it could work. I concede to your business knowledge but I believe that he needs to undo NAFTA to bring back the middle class.
