Voluntary Round

Welcome to the start of Season 3 of the MVL.  We are beginning with a voluntary Bonus Round while we take a "break" from the normal routine. It may be best described as a "Free For All". This round will proceed differently from other rounds as follows:

There are no team points available in this round, neither Base Points or Team Points. 

All points earned are Individual Points only.  As such, the first 4 submissions will each recieve 1pt.

Score and Speed bonus points will be handed out as normal (4 highest scores and 4 fastest games).

Since this is a voluntary round, each Player that participates will automatically earn 1 bonus point.

This is also the first round that will incorporate GC:Twilight of the Arnor into the MVL. A player may choose to use TA as long as it is a MV game.

FREE FOR ALL (MVL BONUS ROUND)

On a Tiny Map with 9 opponents aiming for a Technological Victory (note that for TA players, an Ascension Victory path will also be accepted).







The Bonus Round will end at 11:59:59PM Forum Time of Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I would like to personally nominate JustinSane4; he has a good grasp on the game itself and is both helpful and encouraging to his teammates, and here on the forums. I hope that he thinks this over and will accept.

Thank you very much for the nomination guys :). I'd hesitated to offer to captain a team because there is a roughly 20% chance I'll need to take an indefinite leave from the MVL in a few months, but given the lack of volunteers with more favorable situations, I'd be happy to captain a team if that would be best for the league.

By the way, since I'm rather inexperienced with the MVL (only two rounds), if I do become captain of team B would anyone (Silverbeacher?) being willing to help me prepare for the draft? My knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of players not on my previous team is terribly limited.

I've kept a spreadsheet of everyone's scores since round 4 JusinSane. I could send that to you so you could make an evaluation of players. Let me know... :)

A few months from now, with fairly low odds, means your in the same boat as the rest of us, you'll be fine.

I and the other captains will be glad to help you out JS.

And don't worry about only having two rounds under your belt; heck I only had half a round under my belt when I got the Team E captaincy, and look at me now hahaha.

The Bonus Round ends tonight at midnight (and its looking like I won't be able to get a game in myself :( ) and then a few days from now (Thursday looks like its Day) the Draft will begin.

The following is the Random Order (letters picked from a cup by my roommate lol) of the Draft, that will begin on THURSDAY, JUNE 5TH, 2008

The Celestial Crusaders, captained by FireBender, will have the First and 10th picks in the Draft.

The Eternal Villainy, captained by Neilo, will have the 2nd and 9th picks.

The A-Team, captained by Mumblefratz, will have the 3rd and 8th picks.

The Domination of Death, captained by KzintiPatriarch, will have the 4th and 7th picks.

The Bladerunners, captained by TBA, will have the 5th and 6th (back-to-back) picks.

Great. :)

Also when you start the draft thread itself could you list all the potential draftees as well. A number of folks have checked in to this thread but a number haven't as well.

It might be a good idea to post the list of MVL players a few days before the draft. That will give folks some time to let us know if they can't play as well as possibly give some folks that want to join the opportunity to be added.

While we're only going with 2 selections in the draft with the remainder of players randomly assigned, I think it's a good idea to have everyone listed prior to the actual start of the draft.

that's the plan :CONGRAT:; i have about a 1/3 of the MVL confirmed right now. We're still not at 20 confirmed players at my last count (the minimum that I would like to go into a Round with) but I should have more responses in the next few days.

I haven't heard from Elwood since round 7 and Idazen since mid-round 8. They haven't logged in as well for a long time.

And IIRC, Dys had said in our team forums that he was thinking of skipping a few rounds of the MVL. But I'll PM him over the ToE forums just to be sure.

Soo... I submitted two games on this bonus round. Do I get to pick which one is tallied or does the first submission equal the one that will be counted? Thanks.

Looking forward to the drafts and whatnot.. hopefully I will have a respectable score on some other MV games.. I'm doing my first for the OG right now!

P.S: Silverbeacher.. I was meaning to ask you about your time at Purdue. I tried to email you but I couldn't. I go up to Lafayette quite a bit!

Question on the draft: Are trades allowed? If so, can bonus points earned by a team captain be packaged with a pick to potentially move up in the draft?

@Lord Arkham: normally, the first submission is the one and only submission that is used for final scoring. However, we have granted multiple times in the past a "freebie" to new players. So in this case, Kzinti should (and he's good about this) only count your second (the tech victory) submission.

i'd be glad to answer anything about Purdue; click on my name and a menu will come up, and send a Private Message (not the email function though, that doesn't seem to work anymore); I check back on here multiple times a day.

@JustinSane: We had talked about trades but IIRC they were decided against. However, if someone would like to trade their Draft Position, I suppose I am okay with that.

Actually in regard to Justin's question I would be willing to trade Team A's picks (the 3rd and 8th) for Team B's picks (5th and 6th).

If this is acceptable to Justin then it would also need League/Commissioner approval.

1) If Justin and Mumble are agreed, then they may trade their Draft Positions.

2) I sent out a LOT of PMs today, to both former and potential MVL players, hopefully I'll hear back from most by tomorrow so I can post the Draft listing.
