Voluntary Round

Welcome to the start of Season 3 of the MVL.  We are beginning with a voluntary Bonus Round while we take a "break" from the normal routine. It may be best described as a "Free For All". This round will proceed differently from other rounds as follows:

There are no team points available in this round, neither Base Points or Team Points. 

All points earned are Individual Points only.  As such, the first 4 submissions will each recieve 1pt.

Score and Speed bonus points will be handed out as normal (4 highest scores and 4 fastest games).

Since this is a voluntary round, each Player that participates will automatically earn 1 bonus point.

This is also the first round that will incorporate GC:Twilight of the Arnor into the MVL. A player may choose to use TA as long as it is a MV game.

FREE FOR ALL (MVL BONUS ROUND)

On a Tiny Map with 9 opponents aiming for a Technological Victory (note that for TA players, an Ascension Victory path will also be accepted).







The Bonus Round will end at 11:59:59PM Forum Time of Saturday, May 31st, 2008

... I guess it took too long and that's why my score was so low.. Oh.. a question. How do you all get your medals at the bottom of your screen? I've just been promoted to "Beginner"!


Length is only one aspect; a key part in scoring is also getting everything up and running as soon as possible, that has a big impact on the final score.

There's currently a forum bug preventing medals from showing up in Internet Explorer. Firefox seems to do fine though.

Just checking in from my (hopefully) well deserved rest.

Hope everyone that decided to play the bonus round is having fun with it and hope that those that decided to "sit it out" can come back refreshed and ready for the draft with new teams and a new season.

I'm in the middle of a gigantic abundant all type game although I am kind of doing it at a relaxing pace. I still seem to manage to get in one of these every other month or so while the MVL is in operation but it is a bit more hectic.

Anyway, I'm starting to look forward to a new season and I hope everyone else is as well. :)

So compared to my usual sociable nature, I've been rather quiet and well, quite frankly, absent, as of late. To be perfectly honest, I really just needed a break. The end of the semester really took a lot out of me (I was under a lot of stress, and didn't do nearly as well as I would have liked); and this is my first summer where I can't see the beach from my window.

So, I've been enjoying the last few weeks, not really playing GC much (though lots of SimCity 4 Deluxe; there's even some really cool pics of my cities over at the Tyranny forums) but I am definitely starting to feel the itch again.

We have about a week left in the Bonus Round and then it will be time for the Season Three Draft and Round 9.

We gained two players this round, Everflyer and Lord Arkham. I strongly support everyone talking up the MVL as we go into the Draft so that we even have more players ready to join and play. Please remember that the MVL does allow for TA games, feel free to use that in your "pitch".

Reporting in as well. I was in California for almost 2 weeks, so I look forward to playing a few games again. We are still doing a draft, correct?

With the bonus round quickly coming to a close I think it's time to at least begin thinking of the draft and the beginning of a new season.

Probably the first order of business is the captaincy of team B. Marshall has given ample notice of his desire to step down as team B captain and has also made extensive effort to get some current member of team B to step up and take the position.

After multiple posts, here, there and everywhere; there still has been no response by any current team B member. At this point I think it's time to open up the captaincy of team B to any and all league volunteers. It's an opportunity to be the master of your own fate since as captain you'll get to draft whoever you wish.

If there are multiple folks interested then I'm sure we can come up with an equitable selection method. I'd personally be fine with commissioner selection but if folks wish a quick vote, that could probably be arranged.

But we need a volunteer before it can even come to a choice. If no one volunteers, I suggest that Silver merely appoint some deserving MVL member to be the new team B captain. However there should be at least one MVL member that wouldn't mind being a captain and getting to choose his team.

So don't be shy, please reply. :)

On Team D, Noctilucus has always been very enthusiastic, and has a wonderful attitude and team spirit. Great team-player, and I think he would make an excellent captain. :) So I would like to nominate him, if he has any desire to captain a team.

Yeah, if someone would like to captain the Bladerunners PLEASE let us know.

Also, can I start getting a roll call on who is in and who's out, and who's on break for the upcoming Round? That way whomever I don't hear from in the next few days I can start tracking down.


Lastly, the Bonus Round ends at Midnight on Saturday, May 31st, so don't forget (note to self: play game! hehe)

I'm in (just got back from watching the Celtics game). I'm hoping to be able to get something in for this round, but tech victories tend to take a little more time, and a lot more commitment. I've got something in the works, but its highly experimental, and I'm not sure I can pull off the win (not to mention, I think I might've upped the difficulty on that game, not necessarily the best idea when experimenting with strategies).

Perhaps Marshall will check in again himself but he did mention in the Bladerunners thread that besides stepping down for the captaincy he needed to take a break but that he *would* be back at some unspecified date.

Unless someone hears otherwise we may as well assume that Marshall is out for the next round but that his name should at least be provisionally placed on one team or another as part of the draft process.

I've said it before, but I have no interest in being the captain of a team, too much of a time commitment for what I can spend on GCII right now.

I have tried that before Ghost, i sent many a PM about such things and never heard a response. It certainly does not mean that we should not try again to gain some front page recognition, it would bolster the league greatly i feel.

well...we did get the "The Metaverse League" stickied...small victories I suppose

with the ever changing thread/s for the Rounds, I can see how it could be frustrating for an Admin to keep up if 'they' were having to update a link all the time.

If someone has something coherent that I (we) can present to Stardock, I'll gladly send it along.

Course work and vacation are going to knock me out of the next round for sure. After that, it depends. I will be on travel most of August, too. I certainly want to keep my hat in the ring, and will probably be able to join in Round 10. Right now, I'm still in the middle of my first TA metaverse game, enjoying the odd moments I get with it with no deadline. I'll be looking forward to jumping back into MVL play soon.

I'm in for the round of June.

Thanks for the vote of confidence KzintiPatriarch and PlayJeff45! However I'm not the best choice since I will be out for the round after (July) as I'll be abroad on holiday for 3 weeks. So for the sake of clarity it would be better to find a "permanent" team captain for team B right away...
