MVL Bonus Round

MVL Bonus Round

Voluntary Round

Welcome to the start of Season 3 of the MVL.  We are beginning with a voluntary Bonus Round while we take a "break" from the normal routine. It may be best described as a "Free For All". This round will proceed differently from other rounds as follows:

There are no team points available in this round, neither Base Points or Team Points.

All points earned are Individual Points only.  As such, the first 4 submissions will each recieve 1pt.

Score and Speed bonus points will be handed out as normal (4 highest scores and 4 fastest games).

Since this is a voluntary round, each Player that participates will automatically earn 1 bonus point.

This is also the first round that will incorporate GC:Twilight of the Arnor into the MVL. A player may choose to use TA as long as it is a MV game.

FREE FOR ALL (MVL BONUS ROUND)

On a Tiny Map with 9 opponents aiming for a Technological Victory (note that for TA players, an Ascension Victory path will also be accepted).

The Bonus Round will end at 11:59:59PM Forum Time of Saturday, May 31st, 2008

I have an almost 1 year win. Ended on Jan 1st 2227. Just need to shave off one turn...

Reasonably good startup. Took 4 retries to finally end on 22 Dec 2227. I still have no idea how to go 10K+ with this.

My submission for the round:

My fastest tech win yet. :)

Nice game Firebender :)
Personally, I think the 3 keys to getting 10,000+ are speed and econ and social score (which basically equates to pop growth). I could be wrong though :).

Sorry no time, I will submit one tomorrow, even though it wont count X-(

What are you talking about jeff? it will count. Every game submitted this round automatically earns the Player, one point. You have until the 31st, plenty of time.

I might be blind.. but I didn't see anything about difficulty level needed. Can we set it to what we want as long as we report it?

The reason I ask is because I'm pretty new to the game and am playing at beginner level. I'm doing well in my first gigantic galaxy but I don't think I could do near as well with AI 'average' intelligence (based on what I've read about the AI).

Are there like bonus point multipliers for any wins with harder AI settings?

Thanks,

Wow.. and I thought a score of 3000 was good! That was my first win when I started GCII.

When the MVL first started the most that was required was to play at your own "normal" level. In a lot of cases people went by the difficulty displayed on their Meta medals, but that isn't a hard rule especially with some medals being decieving. One of the greatest benefits of the MVL's team environment is that everyone can learn from each other helping to improve everyone's game. I doubt there is a player in the MVL that can say they haven't learned anything. So no matter what difficulty you choose(and pick what your comfortable with) after a few rounds you'll be surprised at the level you'll most likely be able to play at.

Welcome and Good Luck. :)

Well not to scare anyone(HAHA) I think 30 000 should be quite achievable this round, Anyone else agree? ;)
actually, there's no reason it can't be; you just have to be willing to work for it. In truth, I could see up to the 40-50K range if someone really wanted to.

I was playing at something like beginner when I joined. Bumped it up to Obscene now. :D

Welcome and be sure to take a look at the different threads here where you can get tons of useful info and tactics to improve your playing...

Difficulty level does affect scores but not by that much; I've never seen the multiplier figures though. Just play whatever level you feel comfortable with; however leagues like this one are great to push us to give the higher level a try :)

Play at the level most comfortable for you. When the new teams are established, you will get alot of help from your teamates. Most of us have lots of patience, and will try to go into great detail to help you better your game and up your difficulty rating quite quickly.

P.S. If a beginner on a lower level gets a higher score than somebody on Suicidal, then thats what it is. You get NO BONUS POINTS for playing at higher levels.

Not much to brag about, but it was a fun game (thank goodness the terrans forgot to bring transports when they attacked...), and since the bonus round was partly my idea, I couldn't let it go without trying.

Think I did good except I forgot it was a technology conquest... :-)
I'll go for the tech conquest again just for the heck of it.

Character: Prefect Persius
Race: Custom
Years: 3
Difficulty: Beginner
Victory: Military Conquest
Alignment: Neutral
Score: 4000

Would someone please delete the previous two posts I made until I figure the html out here?

Thanks

well, on the plus side you still get your point for participating :D

as for the images, when using imageshack use the IMG link code (the bottom code line) instead of the other (forum/website lines), you could also use Direct Link if you wanted tho the pic doesnt show up in the forums.

Beyond Mortality was tough for me.. my attack first strategy backfired.. had a tough time fighting those Torians until my ship and weapon tech came online... but it was definite fun! A different game.

I guess it took too long and that's why my score was so low.. :-)

Oh.. a question. How do you all get your medals at the bottom of your screen? I've just been promoted to "Beginner"! :-)
