Go Amazon go!
Amazon suing New York state over new sales tax law
Amazon.com Inc has sued the state of New York, challenging a new statute requiring Internet retailers based elsewhere to collect New York sales taxes.
I love this move and hope that Amazon cleans up here. Get this b.s. tax tossed permanently and send the message to any other states that might be considering passage of a similar tax that it would be a stupid move to even consider.
I feel for the businesses based in these states in their apparent competitive disadvantage against the 'big, evil' Amazon.com but there is a better solution entirely: get these states to eliminate their sales taxes or at least reduce those taxes and other fees so that these businesses can compete on a more even playing field. If the costs of doing business in the states go down the businesses should be able to offer similar pricing and competition goes to work for everyone to benefit from.
Too bad New York is probably the tip of the iceberg when it comes to passing these anti-competitive tax laws.
