I think it was smart of Ironclad and Stardock to delay the demo until they nailed the big bugs found after release. Good thinking there. ;)

Here's to a successful patch 1.04 and 1.1 release soon!

Whats the difference between a 1.1 release and a 1.05 release anyways? As for the demo, 90 min, phew, most people will use that time only to get familiarized with the game, hehe. :p

So what's with the Gameslop-only release, when there's a perfectly good distribution system via Stardock Central?

If anyone is having problems with the demo in the link to GamersHell i provided please contact a mod (kyro for example) so that the link can be removed. Would suck if it's a bad copy and a bunch of people download the whole thing to find it doesn't work.

I've found the demo interesting.

I don't really see a problem with the 90-minute limit. You get enough of a taste of the game to know if you want the full product, and after 90 minutes you know if you won the map or not (more or less). You just auto-skip grinding through the last few worlds.

Playing on all-fast helps. On all slow I had problems finishing the smaller maps in 90 minutes.

I can't change the screen resolution in the demo (the list doesn't show any options at all). Running on a notebook with a GeForce 8600GT. Anybody else having this problem?

Love the demo nonetheless...

My only problem with this demo is using crappy gamespot to download it. It took me 5 hours to download the demo on a high speed connection from gamespot. Then after it's downloaded I get a corrupt file. Piece of junk gamespot!

On the previous page i posted a link to the demo hosted on GamersHell, with multiple servers and usually fast download rates.

I downloaded it from Gamespot and after almost 3 hours, ran it. Intro played well but the screen only showed half of the intro screen. I couldn't access the game (demo) at all and had to delete it. I'll try it again, but wondered why it didn't play after the intro played so well. I hope the demo is ok and not so quick to the internet that its screwed up. Oh well try again.
Where else can I download it. What a pain for the HOURS it took to download.

I got my demo here at filefront( http://files.filefront.com/Sins+of+a+Solar+Empire+Demo/;9861753;/fileinfo.html )

It works fine so far but the tutorial got stuck when the invulnerable scout frigate comes. Is it the end of tutorial?

I've downloaded it twice from GameSpot and have a problem. When the intro is done, I only get a 1/2 screen at eh begining. I don't know what to do. The mouse doesn't work and i'm kida stuck. After almost 3 hours twice in downloading the demo, i'm still in the dark. Is there somewheres else that I can download the demo without haveing to join something, or should I wait for a while an try again?
This is very confusing. A 1/2 screen and froze up, can't do anything, but lissen to the music...........geez.
thanks for any help.

Cheesenium, I just downloaded it from the web site you suggested and it took all of 4 minutes. Same thing unfortunity I only got a 1/2 screen and couldn't work the menu.
I'm gonna wait a while and try again in a week or so. I"ve never had this happen when I took down a demo before. Luck of the Irish, me thinks.

Those having issues with only half the screen showing--this is generally a resolution or refresh rate issue. Try switching the game to windowed mode (it'll then just use your desktop refresh rate). You can do this manually by changing the VideoIsWindowed FALSE line to VideoIsWindowed TRUE in the following file:

Vista:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

XP:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting\user.setting

Please note that some of these directories are hidden by default. To unhide them, go to Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View and set yourself to view hidden files and folders.

What sold me were the videos on YouTube. I always look at youtube when I'm thinking about buying a game. I like to look at the user created videos.

Ok Kyro, i'll try it. Can't hurt, what I have now ani't working. Will I have to reset this when I buy the game? Or can I let the new settings as they will be shortly?
Appreicate you help.

Its 90 minutes per game/tutorial. You can play as many as you like :)

Well the download from them took me 2 hours to download but I was watching TV the rest of the time. Then i got no corrupt file from them at all. I have downloaded over 20+ downloads for demos, games, patchs and had no problem at all i would rather trust gamespot over any other stuff unless it is directly from the makers themselve. On the other the demo is so fun that the demo made me want to get it even more then what i wanted to. When i heard they were making this game and was going to be made by Stardock i knew it was going to be good. 90 mins on Med Map on normal settings was good enough for me almost conquered half the map.
Nah,90 minutes is not enough for the random generated map.

The game always stops me when something big is happening.

Kryo, I can't find anywhere on my puter the "VideoIsWindowsedFalse to change. Looking in my whole hard drive. Took the demo down again then went looking.
1/2 screen again. First demo ever that I had a problem with.
Thanks anyway you tried/so did I.

Hi Viperbob,
Lets try this again.
Do a search for the file name:

1) Start > Search > user.setting

2) Open the file in Notepad.

3) Find the line VideoIsWindowed FALSE and change it to VideoIsWindowed TRUE

Let me know if you have any problems :)

You dont need to download the game again. Just run it
