Wow, that was fast. I didn't think there would be a demo release for another few weeks.

Eh, bad idea doing the limit of 90 per game, and small scenario maps. The AI behaves badly on the smaller maps, so people will start getting the wrong impression.

The demo AI has been improved - part of the changes that will be in 1.04.  We purposely didn't include 1v1 maps as the AI is weakest there.

If people aren't sold on the game after 90 minutes, they never will be - so why should they get to play forever? Besides, these maps can be won (or lost) well within the 90 minute time limit. :P

I agree. They can be won or lost- If you've played it alot already. My guess is that people will spend 30 min in thier first game, then get blasted by pirates; and then they have only 60 min of play time left.

Just my personal opinion, judging from my first game.

90 minutes of playtime? LOL... that's just enough time to get your fleet together on a medium map.

I would've personally increased it by 30 min. but I think Stardock has the right strategy in sparking interest in the game and just before you get to conquer the galaxy....it is time to buy!

Also think about, some people could just download the demo and play random medium maps without ever having any intentions of buying the game. So they would basically be getting a big part of the game for free.

Which is exactly what a demo is supposed to do though I wish that I could get just a little more than 90 minute play time the demo is not meant to entertain but to entice people into buying your product.

Word going out. I have already posted to about 10 sites :)

That was fast. I hope that bodes good things for 1.04, too...

Can you download the demo from Impulse, too? That'd be a cool thing. I imagine if not now, in the future.

Excellent, one step closer to a new patch.

I'll be linking this to all of my clan buddies right now. *runs off

Thanks for releasing the demo.
It has potential and demonstrates that the 4X genre isn't dead yet.
Hopefully more 4X strategy game franchises will move in 3D direction.
That said, I'll pass on the whole RT4X aspect of this game...
Rock On...

Yes, that was fast. I'll send a message to my 200 MAGOG members over at WiC to try the demo. Thanks!

At Gamespot:
This demo gives you four tutorials, two small maps with up to two AI players, one randomly generated medium map with up to 3 AI players, and 90 minutes of playing time (single-player only) per game.

PER GAME("Round") or is 90 minutes total time?
It's 90 minutes per game, not total.  So you can play each map as often as you want, it just stops you after 90 minutes each time.  Odds are that players will only hit the limit on the random medium map.

does it have a after-game trailer like most demos do?

Time limited demo, this must be absolutely the dumbest mistake Ironclad/Stardock have ever made regarding this game.

Think about it: Would you ever consider as a strategy gamer to start playing a game if you know upfront that you would abruptly trown out of it after 90 min? That experience would create frustration, not desire!

I wouldn't mind playing on smaller maps or with other limited functionality as long as I am sure that I can actually finish my game! Give people full functionality on a single map, playing as one faction (TEC) only, with or without multiplayer. Now that would create desire to buy!

Like yarlen said: the two smaller maps were chosen so you could finish within 90 minutes especially if you play on fast setting.

I don't know. Sounds a bit like too much crippleware to me. I liked the way DICE put out their demo for Battlefield 1942 better. You got everything but with only one map. People who liked the game couldn't wait to buy it. They knew well what exactly they were getting but with only one map were highly motivated to buy.

Doesn't matter to me though. I bought it six months ago and have been playing since beta. Great game! Just hate to see too many restrictions.

A map limitation might be pretty simple to mod around though.... the time limit is not.

I downloaded it (4 hours 30 mins  (:( ) from Gamers hell east coast, and it wouldn't let me extract it. I use Vista if it makes any difference.

I've played the first tutorial in the demo up to the point where my cap ship colonizes an asteriod directly adjacent to my home planet and a trader scout ship appears in the warp lane connecting this asteroid to the only other planet on the map. My units auto-attack the ship, but they do no damage. At this point, the tutorial stops advancing. It stays frozen on a tooltip related to colonizing asteroids. What should I do to get the tutorial to continue?
