Just curiouse, how do I show a picture, cause I want to show my exit polls.

Anyways, you can go into the data folder, and edit the candidate files with notepad to edit their states.

My latest Republic win against Democrat Thomas Jefferson. This is very easy to beat once you get the hang of it! All Jefferson ended up winning was Pennsylvania.

And who was your candidate to beat Jefferson with? One of those "custom candidates" with all 10's across the board, except for the obligatory 30 in fund raising. Multiplayer has been ruined by those people.

I beat Jefferson today with George W. Bush. Yes, the same George W. Bush who's attributes total up to 78, not 130. Calling the campaign against Jefferson "easy" just leads me to believe that you didn't win with a historical candidate.
Actually, I used just regular custom character stats (though I lowered practically everything in order to boost other stats necessary for the strategy used - I shot money and fund-raising to 10, and Stamina to 10 as well - same for the Vice President candidate) and used a strategy found on these forums that has worked incredibly well (build headquarters all over, update headquarters, get all the endorsements you can, and then advertise maniacally). I believe that I just got PHENOMENALLY lucky this time (Jefferson, for some reason, just stayed in Pennsylvania and did speeches from there repeatedly, and nothing else for long stretches of time), as my previous times playing against Jefferson with my custom candidates didn't go too well, at all (though one was pretty close).

Multiplayer has been ruined by the cheaters, though. They're all over. I kept being beat yesterday by random people by huge amounts (using the custom characters above)...until I finally had the sense to check the stats of the candidates, and saw that they had 10s in everything. After asking the current guy I was playing against about it, he agreed that it wasn't fair and advised me to create a 10-stat-in-everything, perfect candidate as well to play against him with; then it was fair. Because practically everyone else that I played with online yesterday used these "perfect candidates," (except for one guy, later in the evening, who chose a regular Bill Clinton to play with) I just kept using mine, too. And we had a pretty good time, though it was rather unimaginative in strategy and tactics.

I was kind of surprised that it was even possible to edit candidate's ability scores...especially for multiplayer play. Thought for sure it would be locked out or prevented somehow.

No idea how to copy the screens but here is the result of my latest game. I used Jeffery Pinnard's JFK (slightly toned down for realism) and my own invention of William Proxmire (standard created character) for VP against Dick Cheney on challenging mode. Kennedy won the popular vote 79 million to 51.3 million and the electoral college 465 to 73. Kennedy lost only TX, AK, OK, WY, TN, AL and MS. I didn't really overspend either with $21.53 mill to $18.76 for Cheney. I was surprise that Cheney did not at all use Political Capital, only gaining the endorsement of the US Chamber of Business while I got the NFPC, NOSCP, NUAN, and the environmentalists. I had just downloaded version 1.02 and was surprised when the conservative endorsements cost 10 while the liberal ones cost 8.

Exit polls:
Issue Importance -----------Kennedy ------------ Cheney
Terror 31------------------------ 58 ------------------ 41
Home Sec 12 -------------------- 52 ------------------- 47
Iraq 10 ---------------------- 12 ----------------- 87
Crime 9 ---------------------- 50 ---------------- 49
Environ 6 ---------------------- 98 ---------------- 1
Jobs 6 --------------------- 41 ---------------- 58
Outsource 5 ---------------------- 100 --------------- 0
Gay Marr 5 --------------------- 24 -------------- 85
Sen Prescr 5 ------------------------ 84 ---------------- 15

I was kind of surprised at the lack of return I had on jobs as I thought I hit that pretty hard, while I paid little attention to prescription drugs until late. I guess the initial advantages the candidates had on those positions were too much to overcome. Another point, I did not make one speech during the entire election. I think this was because towards the middle of the game I was trying to win everywhere and could not take the effort. I think on hindsight I should have done some speeches at the cost of some endorsements.

Remember me beating Condi with 400-some electoral votes? I've made it people, and I beat George Washington by over 300-electoral votes. I forget how, and no cheating was involved with altering the game or anything. Just kicked George Washington's hiney'!
EDIT: Forgot the picture

Where can I get JFK for download?

Look under Jeffery Pinnard's thread about new characters or in Jaguar James thread about downloading 42 characters.

Just got 100% of the vote in Kansas, Alaska, and Montana. Also got 99% in Utah he got 0% in those states. I won the rest of the Mid-West with 90-95% in each state!:D;)

Don't forget to say Abe Lincoln is against equal opputunity, Tom Jefferson is unconstitutional. I wish I could have run an ad calling Grant a "drunk SOB". I don't have the screen shot but I Beat Wesley Clark with G. Washington with every state for me. Washington is one mean political Machine

I just finished a fantasy campaign against G "Terrorist" Bush on normal diff. with a my made character (75 stat points, not hacked). world peice and strong peace. everythign was set to random. This created the oddest campaign i hvae played yet. Texas was liberal. Rhode Island had the highest electoral votes. as for issues and their order of importance:

War On Terror
Gov't channels
War in Iraq
Backyard Oil Drilling
Colony on Mars
Welcoming Alien Visitors
ATM fees
Manditory biking
Tax Cuts
Merging with Canada

I won with 395 E votes. I never though i would have to run an ad saying W Bush supports a coloney on Mars. then again JFK talked about putting a man on the moon and that was thought of as crazy to a few.

Wow, how did you win with being outspent and losing on the 6 most important issues of the campaign. You must have made a ton of smear merchants and got the endorsements you needed.
I got all the endorsements and at the end smear merchants and spin doctors cost 9 political capital. I was down 190-348 with like 6 weeks left but then i campained in texas and got some other states in da process

Just finished against Ahnuld/Condi with FDR/Truman in campaign mode and it was too easy. Outspent him $25.3-15.2 million, out politicaled him 42-0, won the popular vote 90.2-39.75 and the EC 535-3. He won only Alaska, which I did not visit once and was working at a disadvantage because he had an HQ there because of the environmental endorsement. For some strange reason he stuck expensive ads in areas in which he was way behind, put a TV ad in Idaho which I was able to overcome with a smear merchant. I only had to use one fixer on a cheerleader he stuck in Cali. I took Cali 60-39 when he had a movie director and for some reason only ran a few newspaper ads there while I put in a webmaster there and in Ohio and ran several TV ads in both states. I took Texas without too much effort 57-42, Florida 55-44 and the Virginia -Carolinas corridor with more than with more than 70% in each state. I swept the top six issues: terror (29%) 67-32; crime (22%) 56-43; homeland sec (11%) 72-27; jobs (6%) 75-24; and outsourcing (5%) 100-0. In fact the only top issue I lost on was Iraq 28-71. I also topped him in the environment 100-0, and unions 91-8 by just getting those endorsements. Many state's I did not need to campaign in with only a single visit to put in an HQ or to run an ad.

Whoa, back up, I'll tell you if you put down the gun.

In your file C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Stardock\PolMachine\Data are your candidate files. They can be opened with notepad and you can adjust all the stats. Do not touch the core candidates file or you won't be able to do certain things in the game.

If you want to add your own pictures go into C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Stardock\PolMachine\gfx\candidateimages and you can add new pictures. You can take any image and convert it to a png file. Your files should be around 250 x 250 or smaller

Just had my closest fight in my narrow win of FDR over TR in campaign mode on painful level. I won the EC 270-268 but lost the popular vote 75.36 mill to 76.64 mill (2000 anyone). He outspent me $34.35-26.11 million but I outspent him in political capital 42-26 but much of that was to get fixers to get rid of his operatives. He got the business and NOW endorsements while I got the foreign policy and union endorsements. The issues looked to be his but I was able to inch on top in the war on terror:
terror (27%) 51-48; Crime (17%) 37-62 (though I thought I concentrated more on that issue); civil unrest (16%) 48-51 (not even sure why it was a top issue because I didn't focus on it at all; Deficit 7 (7%) 65-34 (he tried to use this a bit, but I neg ad'd him on it); Iraq (6%) 23-76 (I usually never focus on this issue as a Dem); capital punishment (4%) 31-68; Outsourcing (4%) 100-0; Environment (4%) 23-76 (maybe he got the endorsement when I wasn't looking, because I don't think he hit it too hard); and drilling and AMR (4%) 16-83 (no idea why this would be such a big issue nationally when only one small state really cares about it).
I won only NY, MA, NJ, MI, MD, IL, IA, MN, ND, AZ, WV, WA, OR, CA. He gave me a tough time in IL, OR, MA, CA (he had 2 TV ads, a radio and 11 newspaper ads, and I barely won despite a Webmaster, war hero, and level 3 HQ along with half a dozen TV ads. I was disappointed to lose CO but maybe I waited to long to move in there, OH where I had a level 2 HQ and 2 radio ads, PA where I had a smear merchant and movie direct along with 2 TV ads, and NC where I had a scare monger and perhaps too late a spin doctor. He also gave me a tough time in NY which was both of our home states.

Here's why I don't believe Frogboy when he said the only advantage the computer has in the upper levels is monetary. By turn 23 Reagan had already used 54 political capital an average of 7 stamina per turn on just political capital. He was even getting more than one endorsement a turn on some turns and not just the cheaper ones that agree with his party. He was also giving speeches, placing ads heavily, fund raising and travelling about the country. No freakin' way.

For those who haven't played Reagan, he is heavily into endorsements, even the NAACP and NOW. I had to grab the Unions and the foreign policy endorsement quick before they were all taken.

I got killed in the popular vote but pulled out the EC with 284 votes. The big thing I don't like about the game is that no matter how little a candidate is outweighed in a real election, only in unusual circumstances will they lose more than 80% of the vote in a particular state, and rarely more than 70%. It happens regularly in this game. I attempted to even visit less than 20 states and in the other states he killed me even though some of those he may have only visited once or never.

One strategy I used was to maximize my advertising nationally by placing almost exclusively tv and radio ads. Only in very closely contested states did I put any print ads.

I finally did my dream matchup, RFK/Nixon in tough mode. I turned the unrest level to rioting to match the '68 status of the nation. The end result: RFK/Proxmire ticket 450 EC, 85.8 million votes spending 39 political points and $29.57 million; Nixon/TR 88 EC 56.8 million votes spending 6 political capital and $23.4. Nixon won only TX, MS, LA, AR, AL, KS, AK, UT, WY, SD, and ID. Even though I lost Texas 76-23, I could have very easily taken the state had I known it was ripe for the taking. I had him beat on the issues but had only 26 % awareness.

Overall the issues fell like this:
Issue Importance RFK/Proxmire Nixon/TR
Homeland Sec 34 64 35
Fighting Crime 17 70 29
War on Terror 13 60 39
Internal Unrest 9 69 30
Deficit 7 99 0
War in Iraq 5 21 78
More Jobs 3 38 61
Capitalistic 2 10 89
Tax Cuts 2 51 48

I'm kind of surprised on the tax cuts thing as the only time I touched on it was in interviews.

Just to test out my developed characters I ran a historical battle of Hoover vs Smith in tough mode. To match 1928 I made the economy strong. In hindisight I should have also put the peace level to world peace, but then instead of getting the foreign policy endorsement, the business endorsement would have become more prominent. I chose Dole as a running mate while Smith chose Jackson of Wyoming. In the final talley I ended up with 465 EC to 73 and 79.31 million votes to 50.18. Historically these totals were 444 EC to 87 and 21.4 million to just over 15 million, at the time the greatest landslide in history. I outspent Smith $23.5-22.2, but in political capital is where Hoover reigned 42-0. I went after the foreign policy, taxpayer and traditional values endorsements. I used fixers on a cheerleader and heckler that he stationed in my homestate of California. I had a webmaster in Pennsylvania and North Carolina and used a spin doctor in NY to take that state, as well as a smear merchant in Ohio. Hoover won 43 out of 57 states with NJ and MA being his biggest prizes.
I was able to dictate the issues with my endorsements and a couple well placed speeches.
Issue -- Importance --- Hoover --- Smith
Terror --- 18 --- 92 --- 7
Crime --- 15 --- 72 --- 27
Tax Cuts --- 10 --- 93 --- 6
Sen Presc - 10 --- 8 --- 91
Deficit --- 9 --- 22 --- 77
Abortion --- 8 --- 41 --- 58
Cap Punish 8 --- 57 --- 42
Homeland - 8 --- 99 --- 0
Speech --- 6 --- 21 --- 78
Environ --- 5 --- 7 --- 92

After getting trounced by Lincoln no less than four times (the closest i came was the first attempt when Lincoln stole NY from me on election night to win a narrow victory), I returned here to these pages and found the post about building 4 HQs in FL, CA, TX, and NY and then getting every endorsement. I followed the strategy, got the hqs, got every endorsement but the NRA. But he had stuck two hecklers in CA so I set up shop in FL (after a few more Hqs) and sent out 4 ads a week all on the war on terror. When i had climbed to within 3 points nationally and had wrapped up texas I knew that I had a chance. I put operatives in TX and PN and visited a few states on the last week. I needed to win the battleground states of NJ and NC to win and I got that and more. I lost CA because of the hecklers but I won in TX, PN, FL and various Southern and Midwestern states to put me over the top. The final tally was 290-248. I had a slight lead on the pop vote, domintated the War on Terror (60% 68-38, it was the focus of my campaign), was outspent 43.8-23.4 and used 48 political capital to 3. Thanks guys for the tips and thank you Star dock for an amazing game.
