Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

Hi

Just have a quick question regarding CE.
If I buy the CE (download+retail box) from stardock, will I then get the posters, cd etc. shipped in the retail box??
Or do I just get it as digital content, and then get a game case with a manual shipped to me??

Which leads me to another question :)
I've just discovered that you're shipping Sins at retail stores in Europe finally.
Appeareantly it arrives in UK the 13th AFAIK.
Will you also ship CE retail boxes in the stores then, here in EU???

Hope it makes sense :)

I bought standard edition from brick-mortar store. Is it possible to update online with Stardock to the collector's edition? Is there any advantage to doing so? I just would like to get the downloaded pdf files and see what the music is like.

Well I've been talking to Stardock Support about when I bought Sins on release and it used my Paypal email instead of my Stardock account. Yes the game ran fine (when ran from a shortcut) but it didn't validate in SDC but it did download via it. I can play online and everything.

Contacted them and the game now validates under my SD account but for some reason my serial key still refuses to work with the Sins updates validation as I think it's still thinking that it's using my Paypal email. So far it's unsuccessful with SD in getting my serial to work with that page, anyway you guys can help me?

If you are having serial/account issues and have already been working with support on them, please continue doing so as they're the best suited to help with that stuff.

It's sorted now. It was a really weird thing I did, I basically thought that I'd try signing up with my Paypal address and just input the CD Key and get the CE content, it didn't work so I thought "great, just my luck". Logged back into this account and the content shows up! How bizarre but at least I've finally got the content I've paid for. I'll be sure to purchase everything through Impulse this time!

Loving the soundtrack and artwork guys! Can't wait for your next game. :)

You should be able to just register the game and get MyColors here, then register your serial again in MyColors to get the theme.

thanks kryo, i downloaded my colours and registered the game a long time ago (though it was initially installed on a laptop)
unfortunately registration didn't work:

there was supposed to be a photo with my post, maybe i inserted it incorrectly

at any rate, the error read: "there was an error validating your registration information, please try again

i used the add registration button in the my colours program, btw, the link you provided kryo is broken

Typo, sorry, fixed it now.

If MyColors won't take your serial, I'd contact [email protected] for further help. It should take it if you've got a registered CE serial.

Yes, you need to be registered to get the updates.

Wait, I was told "only" the CE version from Walmart has the Theme included?? So is it included with the EB Games version or not?

AFAIK any collector's editions can get it. I believe that Walmart does not actually have the CE, but does have the bonus theme. I'd have to check on that to confirm, though.

Uhm, it's 1:45am & I'm drinking Cognac......

So your saying Walmart does not have the CE version on the shelf, but it has the MyColors theme. This comes packaged at Walmart as a standalone??

I've registered my EBGames purchased CE copy here and the Theme does not show under my downloads (only the bonus packs). When I contacted Stardock support, they said the Theme is only included with the Walmart version of the game.

That's why I suggested the orignal post be modified to reflect the comment from Stardock support.

That's not entirely accurate. I know for a fact that copies purchased from us get it as well.

The Walmart boxes just have a sticker on them noting that buyers get the theme, and their serials are on the list of eligible ones along with the CE's.

Okay let me get this straight: if I order the Download + Retail Box edition, that counts as the Collector's Edition, right? But according to your post, it doesn't hold all the Collector's Edition contents as advertised. Instead, you offer it as a separate download after you purchased the CE (DL + Retail Box), right?

From what I understand, a DVD sale version for preorders came out with all these CE content packaged inside. I could be mistaken, though. It's hard to process all the news I've heard so far.

I'd just like to ask:

Is it still possible to order a Collector's Edition with all contents in the box? Like the US$ 49.99 version? I'd really like to pay a one time shipping fee for all the contents, because it takes at least 20 bucks to get it here where I live. If I have to pay 5 more dollars plus S&H to get those CE content shipped to me, that would cost me a whole new game. Y_Y

Hoping for a quick reply.

The theme is a separate download via MyColors no matter how you came to get access to it; it's not included directly in any boxes.

Direct purchases are the same Collector's Edition as is available in some stores (if you opt for no box, you can get the extras as downloads) until we run out, which we haven't yet. These include the tech tree poster, soundtrack, etc, directly.

So from what you're saying, if I do order the download + retail box version of the CE, that already comes with the physical material of the tech tree, the music CD, and what-have-you?

If so, then I've been been hesitating from buying the actual CE edition for months now. If the US$ 44.99 version is the CE with the physical bonus material, then I'll order it right away. Please confirm. Thanks.

Yep.
