Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

Well that certainly solves problem 1 (not having a backup), but not sure about problem 2 (getting it installed on my offline laptop) since restoring an archive requires SDC which I think requires online verification to set up (haven't been able to recheck this yet).

if you have a CE you should indeed be seeing the soundtrack and the Techtree/art downloads too yes. Aswell as the myColors download. (since that was added too)

If they're not showing for you, mail stardock to get it sorted out.

Enceladus,

I believe you can install SDC and restore the archive without an Internet connection. If I'm wrong, or for some reason you need to activate the product after this, it can be done by sending the appropriate information to them via email. There are a number of threads floating about here explaining the process.

OK I will give that a try. However i bought my CE retail so it came with Sound Track and Tech Tree. So perhaps that may be the reason for the lack of download options. I still want the theme for My Colors and anythig else that i may have missed out on.

My biggest fear is maybe Frys sold me non CE version in a CE box. Its far fetched i know, but so is Britany getting her kids back... it will happen.

You only get the MyColors theme if you purchased the game directly from Stardock or from WalMart.

Enceladus - SDC doesn't need to be online to restore an archive. It should be fine. :)

Am currently downloading at the moment. Thanks for the box graphic files, any chance of a standard DVD box version (for us non US who tend to get games in standard DVD boxes rather than the cardboard boxes common in the US).

Also, any chance of a DVD graphic - got a lightscribe drive that I've yet to try out - would be a good test use for it...

umm, this might sound stupid (it probably will), but when is Sins of a Solar Empire avaible in Canada? It was made in Vancouver, but is yet to reach stores. I checked the Bestbuy Canada site and the walmart.ca. I really dont want to have to download it so i am wondering when it might come out.

I have purchased the download version....and I have decided to go ahead and purchase the boxed version (sorta upgrading, I guess). How do I go about doing that?

I know it will be $5 bucks, plus shipping and handling. But where do I go to do that?

hun23 - The game has been selling out in Canada, but more copies will be showing up this week. :)  Best Buy / Futureshop should have them, but your best bet will likely be EB Games Canada (they ordered the most - including the Collector's Edition).

MythicalMino - Please email [email protected] and they'll get you hooked up. :)

They're pretty big. The artwork posters are 11"x17" and the tech tree foldout is huge.

I preordered and dled but dont see any additional content, am I missing something?

You need to click the Download Updates button on the Sins main menu. ;)

After downloading the tech tree, it is somewhat disapointing, as there are just names for the different technologies, rather than the chart including discriptions.

I seem to remember being similarly disapointed with the Gal Civ 2 tech tree, actually.
