Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

I doubt it. I'm pretty sure I'm using my beta serial number with Dark Avatar.

As I said, you could try, but I suspect they are tied to the same account.

Speaking of collectors edition what are the estimated shipping times to the west coast USA... Im still missing mine ;)
Same here still waiting for mines. Normally I would get mad as I payed $10 for shipping but I am already playing the game, I ordered on 2/04/08 so i'm sure they received a ton of orders and need a lot of time to process. So i'll patiently wait till Friday till I get worried, Audiosurf is coming out on Friday I need music for it!

I can't believe that. Unless they applied the serial stickers on the Collector's Editions by hand. :/

Maybe I'm wrong. I haven't actually played GalCiv2 or Dark Avatar in a while. As I said, just try it out if you're curious.

both codes should work :) I'm using the ones SD sent me in the mail for GalCiv2 and Dark Avatar too, but those on my CD-box are different ones. both are valid :)

Except that because we can't play GalCiv2 online, we don't know whether or not they're all tied to the same account.

There's no doubt you can throw those numbers, even if they're different, onto any PC you want to put Sins on, and they'll work in SP mode. The question is whether you can use them all at the same time on-line.

The way it works is that the retail box serial will overwrite your digital one. ;)

Hey! I bought the digital download version of Sins of a Solar Empire. Now i downloaded everythink like the gamefiles and collectors edition extras and burned all of it on a dvd for backup. Now it will be very nice, if there will be a dvd cover for download to the digital download buyers. Yarlen, can you help us?

I imagine if you're patient they'll make one. They did for Dark Avatar.

Last question ;) When and where you can upload the cover?

Hi guys!
This post is probably just a bit late for those Australians who posted on here before, but, as I've said on other threads, after contacting EBAus a couple of days ago, I found they have it listed for a 16 April release.

Yay!

I also bought the digital download version (live in the UK), but as far as I could see the only option was to install while online - there was no option to download a version that can be installed offline. This is a slight problem for me as:

1. Would like to make a DVD backup so I don't have to download everything again if a reinstall is needed.
2. Would really like to install on my offline laptop.

Have tried simply burning the contents of the installed Stardock folder to a DVD, but if I then try running setup.exe, nothing happens.

Is there a way to get an installable backup DVD using the downloadable version, or do I have to buy the boxed version for this?

Once you download it you can use SDC to make an archive of the game, then burn that (and a copy of the SDC installer) to DVD.

Thanks - will try that when I get home. Presumably I need to repeat this after each new patch.

(Off-topic, not sure why my nickname didn't appear in my last post :NOTSURE: )

The easiest thing to do is simply right-click on Sins of a Solar Empire in SDC, then choose the "Archive Application" option. You'll have a few other options from there (such as immediately downloading and archiving): just pick the one that suits your needs best.

There's an option in the settings to automatically archive before updating, so you're never stuck with only the latest version (if that appeals to you). And yeah, in general you'll have to save every new archive if you want to burn the latest version to a DVD.
