Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

I have to admit, I'm confused with all this stuff too. Two questions:

1) The digital Only download - Is that the collector's edition? I tried looking through all the threads, but just made me more confused:(

2) Does the downloadable version of the collector's edition have an expiration date as to when you can order it? Or can you purchase the downloadable collector's version forever?

Thanks, looking forward to this one.

1. Anything from the Stardock website related to SINS is the Collectors Edition ( for now )

2. I dunno...

It shouldn't have any expiration for ordering ;)

This is absolutely retarded! Every game I have ever bought that has any sort of tech-tree, and implements a lot of hotkeys, comes with a tech-tree fold-out AND a hotkeys chart of some kind with the NORMAL retail version. Those things should come with games as default items.

Most of those games (many of them recently purchased) were priced at $39.99 and came with those two items, so any attempt to rationalize Stardocks decision, by stating that they did it to give folks a less expensive option because some people don't want those things, doesn't hold any water.

I admit that the game looks great is likely extremely compelling, but the decision to leave those two items really gives me a bad impression of Stardock. It makes them appear to be either cheap-skates or greedy b******.

YAY! Finally we get Homeworld 3!!!

Homeworld + Rise of Nations = Sins of a Solar Empire

yeah, they definitely arent an indie company and to totally have tons of money to throw around :D

Sins will be published under Auran in Australia.

Incidentally, I recently read that Auran was in a bad way, having downsized a whole lot of employees, and may indeed be dissolved. Does anyone have any information on this?

Wait, it's actually being published down here? I called up EB and they don't even have Sins listed in their computers.

Is there an ETA on the Australia release date by Auran?

As for Auran in Australia, I am only aware of their development side being dropped/layed off. As for their distribution side I am unsure. The only Aussie retailer that I have seen with a release date is Games Warehouse. They have it listed as the 18th April. WWW Link

I pre-ordered my copy (Download and Box Copy) through Stardock so I could avoid that painful wait.. and also to get the Collectors Edition. What can I say, I'm a sucker for a shiny box and extra goodies.

Same here bro! I was enraged with the fact that Australia will be late....Yet again. not only is australia the dumping ground of the worlds old technology, its also late in grabbing teh latest tech. GRRRRRR cant the world see that we are expanding, and demand for tech is getting higher down here? smart companies would think ahead and start selling to australia now, rather than later.

anyway, same as whiteshadow, im avoiding all this shizen by just pre-ordering the cd+Digital copy. Incoming CE!!! brace for impact!!!! lol....only 24 hours

If you guys can't wait (I'm from Australia as well) you should be able to order online, Ironclad/Stardock do International Shipping.

I've got a few freinds I play with from Austalia as well. Boy where thay pissed just like you Chang when thay found out there per-orders where gona be late. :P

Auran's publishing division is unaffected by their recent events. They have decided to release Sins in April 2008 in Australia / New Zealand.

Stardock will ship worldwide if you order direct. It's $20 for shipping & handling outside of the U.S.

Well I bought Windows Blinds and all those other nice extras from Stardock. The fact that My Pre-Order means I get the Collectors Edition makes my pants tight. I never cared much for Boxed games, thats why My steam account has 19 games listed under my name. If i can get it online.. im happy.

I'll just print the posters that are in PDF format at my office on a nice massive sheet of paper. And.. ahem.. pay the company for it's trouble though.. ahem

Oh and ... I still think Steam is shyte... YEAH STARDOCK

Which ones were they? Specifically, which game that came with a fold out tech tree that was new was $39.99?  I really want to know.

hmmm... i have this odd Question. Who hell cares about a poster of the tech tree anyway? I can see it in the game im playing, and there is no way in hell im putting it up agains my wall.

Give me decent poster... sins poster and im a happy guy. not some damn Tech tree for crying out loud. The only recent game I bought with a tech tree poster was Civilizations IV and C&C 3, and they were not as cheap as sins thats for sure.
