Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

Sins of a Solar Empire: Collector's Edition vs. Standard

For the Collector's Edition

Sins of a Solar Empire comes in two forms:

Standard Edition ($39.95) which is what is available at retail.

and

Collector's Edition ($49.95) which is available direct as well as certain retailers (I think Fry's is one).

So what's the difference?

The Collector's Edition box includes the following bonus items:

  • a foldout tech-tree poster
  • artwork posters
  • a hotkey card
  • a music CD

For users who are doing download only, the Collector's Edition is only $44.95 but they will still be able to get the music CD (we'll be providing it as a digital download shortly after release) and PDF versions of the other materials (which we will also be providing after release).  Since there's less physical materials, it's $5 less than the actual boxed version.

If you decide later you want the boxed unit, you can order that for $5 plus the cost of shipping and handling.

Also Collector's Edition users will receive the Sins of a Solar Empire MyColors theme:

2008-01-31_0059[1]

Users who didn't buy the Collector's Edition will be able to seperately purchase the digital content starting in late February.

If you buy the game directly from us, you are getting the Collector's Edition (pre-order, beta tester, etc.). It is the only version of the game we sell digitally or box.

If you have any questions, ask them here.

Bought the game months ago at Walmart, have the MyColors theme installed (which I love). But I am left wanting the sound track and the pdfs. Is there a way I can upgrade my serial to a CE version without paying full price for a second copy?

IIRC it was commented that we might look into offering them separately for a small charge in the past, but it has not yet happened, sorry.

I downloaded the $39.99 edition from the Stardock Store (the link that says "BUY NOW" on the Sins website. I got it up and running with Impulse, but I can't find the "Bonus Content" anywhere. From trolling around this post, I am pretty sure that I should have access to it, but I can't find the download link in my email from Impulse or Stardock for it. Where should I be looking for the download link?

Thanks!

I think it might be this link.

I know how you feel, when I bought Homeworld I got the standard edition... then I decided to get the one with the soundtrack, and payed through the nose for it on Ebay. I learned my lesson, so I bought the sins collectors first instead of the standard.

Hello, when I was contemplating buying the game, I saw this note on the boxed edition: Note: Collector's Edition bonus content is provided as a digital download from the Sins of a Solar Empire website.

Does that mean that it's ONLY provided as a digital download, or is it also (still) included in the box? This is of course assuming that I purchase directly of https://store.stardock.com/product.aspx?productid=SSD-SDS-W237 . I know this exact question was asked back in July, but I was wondering what the current status is. Thanks!

I got this reply, for other people reading this:

If you order the download + retail box from us, you will get the Collector's Edition content as hard copies. You would also be able to download the digital copies as well.

Hello.

I bought mine for exactly $48. It has a foldout tech-tree poster and a hotkey layout. It has no artistic posters or a music CD. The retailer I bought from is called Jarir Bookstore. How can I know whether it is a Collector's Edition or not?. I will be complaining to them if it is and I did not receive the full product.

Having purchased in the middle east, it will have been published by a regional company (Kalypso, probably). In that case, any differing editions they offer or the extra items included in their boxes can vary from ours.

How do I download the collector's edition items? I've clicked on 'Download Updates' in the Sins main menu but it simply launches the main store page of Impulse....help would be appreciated.

Where can I buy just the CE boxcopy, I don't have net access and am not interested in accounts etc as my access is limited via work.

Amazon US do it in dollars, but I'm wondering why the likes of Amazon uk and play.com only stock the vannilla edition.

I have searched he forums and so far a can't see if this question has already been asked.

Many thanks

Our CE version is only available in North America, as that's where we self-publish. Other regions are handled by others (Kalypso in Europe particularly), so the versions they offer and contents thereof will vary from ours.

I bought the Standard Edition of Sins some time ago. Since then, I regret that I did not buy the collectors. I noticed that it said in the orginigal post here that the box could be sent for 5 dollars and shipping. Is it possible to pay to have just the box and the collector's edition items sent to me?

If you purchased a download-only copy from us, you should have access to downloadable versions of the CE goodies via this page. Or you can pay $5+S/H for a box here.

If you purchased a standard retail version though, I don't believe we currently have any upgrade option for that.

Ah, afraid I originally purchased the Standard Edition. Too bad there's no upgrade option but thanks for the quick reply.

Kryo, I got a box from my regular retailer.. It had a tech tree fold out and keyboard map, but no soundtrack, extras.. I'm guessing this is the package from Kalypso. So, I went to the link you provided above, signed in and saw only the 1.05 updates, no CE goodies.. Are you saying those of us who had no choice but to get the Kalypso version don't get these goodies and/or we have to pay $5 for S/H? And that S/H is North Am. only right? Double whammy.. What gives? X(

If you bought the digital version of SOASE then you can ask for a boxed copy at $5 + P&P, of course if you live outside the States then the P&P is £18...

Interestingly enough and it has been mentioned in this thread, other than the MyColors thing the rest of the CE stuff doesn't show up in impulse.

It's downloading now and I feel like a total gimp considering I brought the game ages ago.

I too wish there was an upgrade.  I would love a pdf download of the tech tree and the music available as well for those of us who bought the retail version.  Please let us know if that can change.

I just bought the game from this site, it's the Collector's Edition. I took the digital download option. Where can I download the extras ? It's supposedly at sinsofasolarempire.com, but I've browsed the site and couldn't find them.
