Classic movie moments

Hi all

what classic movie moments do you remember?

here are my favourites; and the winner is...

Action - Terminator 2, Terminator takes sunglasses from barkeeper.

Commedy - Steve martin gets whipped across the legs by Michael Cane in Dirty Rotten Scoundrils while pretending to be a cripple.

Inspirational - In the movie Amistad, prisoner 'C.K' stands up in court and says "give us, us free".

That movie (Amistad) moment gives me chills just thinking about it, oh and that actor (who is he by the way?), i saw him recently in Blood Diamond, and i will give particular mention to the scene where he kills the slave mine camp master - such pure raw emotion in that scene it is beyond scary, i will be waiting to see what shows he will be in next!

Noooooo, make him stop..make him stop!!!!!

lol

My favourite fishing show they screened recently was an epic adventure camping on the endless beaches of W.A 500km from the nearest sign of humanity. They were pulling in sharks and huge jewfish and all the rest of it, awesome!

Roy Batty dying.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams ... glitter in the dark near Tanhauser Gate. All those ... moments will be lost ... in time, like tears ... in rain. Time ... to die.

Third place - Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan
Khans final speech; Kirk yelling "Khaaaaan!". Khan is by far the most intense and impressive bad guy of all the Star Trek movies.

Second place - Serenity
Mals speech "I aim to misbehave".

First place - Knocking on Heavens Door
The ending scene with the two of them sitting on the beach, then one falling over presumably dead (after finally seeing the ocean).

What movie was that?

Well of course! a nice example of what can happen when you match the right lines with just the right actor

I am not familiar with the other two examples? although i have seen serenity.

Serenity: After they discover the records on Miranda, when they decide to send them out on the cortex.

Knocking on Heavens Door: Probably not well known outside German speaking countries, starring Til Schweiger, Jan Josef Liefers and Moritz Bleibtreu. Very good movie though, won several awards in '97. Two patients with terminal illness (cancer and tumor) decide to break out from hospital, steal a car and go see the ocean for their first (and last) time. IMDB entry

Knocking on heavens door is actually a well known song.
It is a very well known song actually - it was sung by Guns & Roses and used to great effect for the ending scenes in Lethal weapon.... lethal weapon 3 to be precise i think?

Blade runner? i havn't seen that movie for a long time.... if i remember correctly, i think that movie was a bit weird, a bit disjointed somehow?

Actually, the song is by Bob Dylan. But I wasn't talking about the song, it's the movie that probably isn't known that well. But if you find the English version (or your native language) in a shop somewhere - definitely worth checking out.

Indeed the original song was written by Bob Dylan, but there were significant changes to the version done by the Gunners. And not only Lethal Weapon, but Days of Thunder and White Men Can't Jump featured the track too...some trivia for ya....And it's an awesome song too by the way.

Bob Dylan Eh? anyhow, i didn't say the Gunners created it, i just said they sang it precisely because i did not know who created it.

No problem watching it... SBS would probably screen the German version here in Australia!

I would guess more movies yet again would feature it but i personally feel Lethal weapon used it to it's greatest effect

Sean Conney as Malone in The Untouchables had some great lines.

(Malone to Elliot Ness in the church): "You wanna know how to get Capone? He pulls out a knife, you pull out a gun. He sends one of your guys to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue!. THAT'S the CHICAGO way! Now....can you do that? Are you ready to do that?"

But I think Jaws had one of the most memorable to me. I'm talking about Quint's USS Indianapolis story. Every time I watch it, it's as tense and gripping as the first time I saw it 25 years ago.

The army of tornadoes tearing Los Angeles to shreads in The Day After Tomorrow.

Nice!

It is, take his word for it.   What Ithink is the coolest (people still say "cool", right?) thing about this scene is that it made one of the biggest didaster movie cliche's, two tornadoes merging together, seem original.

Annother one of my faveorite scenes is from Saving Private Ryan, when the German kills the American with the knife, and he says, "Shhh...shhh."

That one kind of scared me. BTW, are faveorite scenes from TV shows legit on this thread, or do I have to start a new one?

I think movies like Batman, again and again and again and again etc etc would have stretched peoples tollerance of a minor cliche such as above

Favourite scenes is spot on topic!

The reason for this thread is that I like to be reminded of outstanding film moments that are so easily forgotten over time.

Another classic moment:

In the film Dr. Strangelove: Or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb the Army has just retaken the air force base, and Captain Mandrake is having an argument with an Army Officer since Mandrake just realized the recall code for the bombers when he spouts this classic line:

Captain Mandrake: "Look Colonel..." (reads the officers name tag) "Bat Guano, if that is your real name..."

Another classic line (being spoken in front of the Russian Ambassador): Mr. President, if I may speak freely, the Russkie talks big, but frankly, we think he's short of know how. I mean, you just can't expect a bunch of ignorant peons to understand a machine like some of our boys. And that's not meant as an insult, Mr. Ambassador, I mean, you take your average Russkie, we all know how much guts he's got. Hell, lookit look at all them them Nazis killed off and they still wouldn't quit.

Best comedy ever.

Dr. Strangelove:

I don't think i have seen that one?

Some more classic movie sequences -

007 - Jaws ripping the little car apart at the ruins in Egypt (classic)

terminator 2 - Terminator leaps bike to helicopter, "get out" (awesome) and the whole chase scene from that point on is arguably the best movie chase ever made. Terminator 3 chase with crane would have been better except that vehicles don't typically have servo mechanisms installed that the terminators virus can take over to control the vehicles, woops!!

I also have to give mention to the fight scene on the freeway in the second matrix movie - that was pretty damb stunning!

Oh man, it is a great movie! On IMDb it's ranked as the 22nd all time best movie, and it's the highest rated comedy on the site.

Ohhh chase scens...i love the one in Ronin...goes forever and is fraking great! The chase at the end of the 2nd Bourne movie is good too.

As well as chase scenes, i love spaceship combat scenes! I think my favourite space battle would be the defence of Deep space 9 against the Dominion.... hmmm actually i think the recent starwars movie, where the commerce guild made its last stand, i think that one tops the list for space battles?

Any space scene in DS9 which involves the Dominion. Especially once the Romulans get involved too.

For me from Star Wars, the opening of Revenge of the Sith..wow!!! What a way to open a movie.

IMDM = Internet Movie Database..the one stop shop for info on movies and shows. Who made them, starred in them...what ever really...Check it out, i love the place.

Yea i think that might be the battle i was thinking of - the one where they eventually ride the crippled command ship of the commerce guild down to the planet rite?

Yep, it's the holy grail of space battles, you get to see a fairly well sustained battle sequence with fantastic graphics supported by the Starwars sized budget -instead of the typical quick flashes of battle sequence in most other space battle movie scenes.
really? i have to respectfully disagree; it was all flash and no substance to me; I'd have to go with either the Enterprise vs Reliant in Wrath of Khan or the opening sequence to First Contact.
