Classic movie moments

Hi all

what classic movie moments do you remember?

here are my favourites; and the winner is...

Action - Terminator 2, Terminator takes sunglasses from barkeeper.

Commedy - Steve martin gets whipped across the legs by Michael Cane in Dirty Rotten Scoundrils while pretending to be a cripple.

Inspirational - In the movie Amistad, prisoner 'C.K' stands up in court and says "give us, us free".

That movie (Amistad) moment gives me chills just thinking about it, oh and that actor (who is he by the way?), i saw him recently in Blood Diamond, and i will give particular mention to the scene where he kills the slave mine camp master - such pure raw emotion in that scene it is beyond scary, i will be waiting to see what shows he will be in next!

i think one of the most powerful/memorable scenes for me is from "Crash" when the shopkeep tries to shoot the locksmith and his little daughter jumps up to protect him with her "cape". I still think its one of the best movies I've seen.

The ending scene from Child's Play 3 when Chucky is thrown into a giant fan and explode's into little.

I have not seen that? What is it about?

Chucky got chuked!

As far as bad guys getting killed, my favourite is the Borg queen getting killed in Startrek First Contact - that bitch was really asking for it! lol

Crash is a movie centered around the lives of a few diverse individuals whose lives intersect in interesting and unexpected ways. It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2005?. I very highly recommend it.

Almost anything in "UHF," but especially Raul's Wild Kingdom ("Right here in my apartment!") when he tries to teach poodles how to fly ("Sometimes, eet takes them a leetle while ...")

These have got to be some of my favourite movie moments by far. These are quotes from those moments.

From "Dirty Harry"

Harry Callahan: I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself a question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

From "The Shining"(the interview with Jack at the Overlook Hotel)

Stuart Ullman: Physically, it's not a very demanding job. The only thing that can get a bit trying up here during the winter is, uh, a tremendous sense of isolation.

Jack Torrance: Well, that just happens to be exactly what I'm looking for. I'm outlining a new writing project and, uh, five months of peace is just what I want.

Stuart Ullman: That's very good Jack, because, uh, for some people, solitude and isolation can, of itself become a problem.

Jack Torrance: Not for me.

From "A Clockwork Orange"

Alex: The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow. A nice warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts!

Alex: I woke up. The pain and sickness all over me like an animal. Then I realized what it was. The music coming up from the floor was our old friend, Ludwig Van, and the dreaded Ninth Symphony.

Chucky exploding also explain's how he got the scars he has in the next two movies.

I will have to look for it, thanks.

Ah now that one i know! Not too familiar with the rest. Any other nice movie moments?

Funny thing about dirty harry movies, there is one thing i can clearly remember about them - 'footsteps' the movies always have pronounced footstep sounds followed by groans from body blows! lol

oh and that actor (who is he by the way?)

His name is Djimon Hounsou, and he is fantastic in Eragon as well. Also if you have seen The Island, he is the "bounty hunter" type character traking down the escaped clones.

I agree with the Terminator one, those movies are great.

Star Trek Generations Data = (whilst crashing)

"SHIT!"

Star Wars ANH = Leia (walking behind Chewie)

"Will someone get this walking carpet outa my way"

Star Trek IV A Voyage Home Spock & McCoy (Spock has just boarded the bird of prey and bones is questioning his mental faculties)

"Excuse me doctor i am recieving a distress signal." "I don't doubt it."

The Italian Job (remake) Napster narrating a conversation between Handsome Rob and Cable chick.

"Ohhh would you like my virginity too?" "If it's on the menu!"

To top all that off i could quote many lines from Pulp Fiction, the whole movie is full of great dialouge and scenes but i will mention two.

The Wolfe "That's thirty minutes away. I'll be there in ten."

Guys please take no offense, i am simply quoting a movie, and in context it is quiet funny.

Jules: Oh, Jimmie, don't even worry about that...
Jimmie: No, No, No, No, let me ask you a question. When you came pulling in here, did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said Dead Ni**er Storage?
Jules: Jimmie, you know I ain't seen no...
Jimmie: Did you notice a sign out in front of my house that said Dead Ni**er Storage?
Jules: [pause] No. I didn't.
Jimmie: You know WHY you didn't see that sign?
Jules: Why?
Jimmie: 'Cause it ain't there, 'cause storing dead ni**ers ain't my fucking business, that's why!

Thanks, yes i have seen the island but i don't remember it too well. It was quite a stunning film tho, i loved it!

thanks for those other movie moments too Nelio, i wish i had a better memory!!

I do remember another comedy moment that nearly killed me with laughter….

The movie Weekend at Bernies – Bernie falls out a wheelbarrow on the balcony and lands on the asasin as if attacking him.

I liked the use of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture in V for Vendetta.

The end of Fight Club (won't ruin it if you haven't seen it!).

The scene in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King where Theodin gives his little pep talk before the Battle of the Pelennor Fields (yes, it deserves capitalization).

Tom Hanks saying "I'll see you on the beach" in Saving Private Ryan (not really sure why I like that so much).

I just saw American History X, and I liked that ending a lot.

"Yippi-ki-yay motherf***er!!!"

Yippi-ki-yay Motherfraker!!! in the first movie is the best. From that point on, though i am a huge Die Hard fan, it seems diluted.

And the speach in LOTR ROTR is definitely worthy of mention. So too is Gandalf bellowing to the Balrog "Thou shall not pass" as he casts the spell.....love that bit!

There is no doubting that both cavalry charges in Lord of the rings are awesome movie moments, my favourite being the second one - even if it was a pointless battle since the army of the undead was on its way. I think my favourite line in that movie is "if you want him, come and get him".

"Yippi-ki-yay motherf***er!!!"

"Asta lavista bebe" although a bit deflated by the missed opportunity to have simply picked up the frozen terminator and throw it in the molten metal instead of shooting it.

i love the presidents speech in Independance day. Mell gibsons 'die in your beds speech in braveheart and his last scene dying at the end in Braveheart and calls 'freedom' awesome!

"The Big Sleep" (1946), with Humphrey Bogart as Philip Marlowe, is full of good scenes. An early exchange:

General Sternwood: How do you like your brandy, sir?
Marlowe: In a glass.

and later in the film...

Marlowe: What's the matter? Haven't you ever seen a gun before? What do you want me to do, count three like they do in the movies?

I havn't seen that movie?

I guess i will get to it sooner or later since there is a new commulity tv station here in Sydney that shows allot of old films. It is quite a sad state of affairs indeed when the local community TV is the only station running slightly interesting shows (with two exceptions, Dr house and supernatural)! Thats Australia for ya!! sigh,

PS: Thank God Australian Idol is finishing - what a long winded pile of shxx made interesting by a brief moment of good music.

I have quit a few, but here are a few of my favorite "Holy Snot!" moments:

During the intro to CSA: The confederate States of America, there's a photo montage, and one is the Iwo Jima flag-raising, but with a Confederate flag instead of Old Glory.

The scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indy clears the jump across the pit and sees that Mexican guy impaled on a wall of spikes. (Deserved it, though. You do NOT chiken out on Indy!)

The zepplin exploding in Flyboys.

The army of tornadoes tearing Los Angeles to shreads in The Day After Tomorrow.

In the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Butch is about to have a knife fight for control of the gang, and as he's getting ready he leans over to Sundance:

Butch: I don't mean to be a sore loser, but if he wins... kill him.

Sundance: Love to. (smiles and waves at the other guy)

Butch (to the other guy): No, no, not yet. Not until me and Harvey get the rules straightened out.

Other guy: Rules? In a knife fight? There are no rules!

(Butch kicks him in the groin with the toe of his boot, causing him to double over)

Butch: Well, if there aint' going to be any rules, let's get the fight started. Someone count. 1,2,3 go.

Sundance (quickly): 1,2,3 GO!

(Butch punches out the still doubled over man, thus winning the fight)

Ah, classic cinema. That movie has some of the best comedic dialog of any movie to date.

Nice!

HAHAHA what a dumb thing to say just before having a fight!!

Thye funniest thing i ever saw happen just before a fight... i am not sure what movie, it could have been Indiana Jones or James bond but anyway, the hero fights off all manner of bad guys and then at the end this bad guy comes along with two massive swords and puts on a big spinning blade display to show off how good he is... the hero looks at him, sigs and says "oh stuff it" pulls out a gun and shoots him!

That was in the first Indiana Jones, Raiders of the Lost Ark. The planned fight was cut out since Ford was sick with a fever, so they just had him shoot the guy.

1) Most stunning & surprising end-scene; Planet of the Apes - Statue of Liberty half-buried on the beach, head-spikes melted following nuclear holocaust (now, obvious) discovered ONLY at the end by Heston and yelling while fist spiking the sand in slow seawater flows; "- Damn you all to hell!".

2) Most puzzling turnaround; Hans Solo returning (right in time!) to slap-nudge Vader out while Skywalker prepares for his famous blind-force-one-lucky-shot-in-a-million at the Empire Space-Station... and in the same movie; When Wedge bullets himself straight into a Tie clearing the way for Luke which makes a wildly fun facing expression and says; "Thanks Wedge, truly Wedge!".

3) Most fast ending; Perer Fonda (as a bank robber trying to escape numerous chasing Polices, helicos, etc) lime-green Dodge/GTO car stopped by an incoming train. Bang - it's over.

4) Most stunning Visuals; Star Trek ONE -- Tiny NCC-1701 carefully tip-towing its way inside v'Ger huge interstellar dark-blue and complex ship. The proportional impression is really a wonderfulf eye-candy.

Lots more, but Best Four above.

- Zyxpsilon.

hahaha, that just adds to the humour of the scene!

More dramatic for those that watched the movie and didn't see it comming - sadly i was not one of those!

More puzzling to me was the question as to why none of the tailed fighters banked up (aside from the damaged one) to then dive back in behind Darth Vaders fighters?? That was just such an obvious move, it destroys the logic of the whole sequence in the movie for me. Solo was just doing what the other fighters could so easily have done if they had brains.

The proportional impression is really a wonderfulf eye-candy.

Absolutely agree

It is a local Sydney station, so i don't think you can get it in Newcastle unless you live up on a hilltop.

So i guess it would be cruel of me to tell you that station also screens heaps of fishing and camping shows over the weekend!!

Cheer up, it does waste allot of time on cultural type programs which are dead booring.
